    Hey man - loved how you did this in 2 parts. First part with you by yourself and the Second with you instructing others to do it. To a mechanical novice with a CR-V that I love - your film here felt very illuminating - to the basics, which is where my head has to be at to consider attempting this kind of work. Appreciate your work:)

    Thanks again, man. You are a great teacher. I was able to follow this and changed both axles on my wife's RD1. They both had torn inner boots, and the driver side balancer was torn off so it would slide around the axle and make a clunking noise occasionally. The new axles are aftermarket and don't have that balancer, thank goodness. Hardest part for me was getting the lower ball joint off on both sides. I don't have a lift, just a full size jack and suv jack stands (had to get those just for this car) so doing this on the floor didn't allow as much force when I hammered. But with persistence I got it. I noticed on the passengers side you hammered the ball joint out from front to back with the rotor rotated out but on the drivers side you hammered back to front with the rotor facing straight. I'm just curious is there a reason why? Thanks again so much. This was super helpful. Not the easiest job from the floor, but I got it done, and it drives way smoother now. Definite feeling of accomplishment, self reliance and money saving.

    Hey The Honda Resource Man, huge fan. These video have been really great and really helping me with my projects. I was hoping you can give me a pointer. I am having a really hard time getting the driver's side axle out of the transmission. The passenger's came out a breeze. Is it normally like that? At the 8:37 mark you just hit it was a hammer. What size hammer is it? Are you hitting it at a specific angle or just up? I only have my car up on jack stands so I don't have as much space, so I don't want to accidentally hit it wrong and break something. Thanks.

      Hard time getting it off the half shaft or getting the half shaft out of the trans

    • @chiefpacman
      @chiefpacman 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For hub assembly you really have to beat it. Helped me to hammer the cv axel sticking out of the hub, as he did after he freed it. Also had to beat on the bottom of the ball joint bolt in the upward direction, with the nut all the way down/ a piece of wood in between to soften blows.
      For axel, helped me a lot to just tear the boot off in the back and rip out the front part to stop all that junk from blocking the axel from coming out. Hope that helps someone..

    • @joubess
      @joubess 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine was really, really stuck, and after several hours of hammering on it, I borrowed a slide hammer with an axle puller attachment. It took another hour with the slide hammer to get that thing to come off. Now I'm having hell getting the new half axle installed. I may take the inner shaft off the truck, put them together, and install it that way. I had very little trouble getting the half shaft out and then back into the transmission. Not sure yet what I want to try next. The outer CV axle is plain hard.

    Hey man, I'm having issues with my 98crv. Every time I make a sharp turn either left or right I am hearing grinding sounds and the font end is shaking and feels like the wheel is not spinning, I put my foot down to give it more power but feel like the car was not moving. Only happens when moving forward nothing happens when reverse. People in the forum suggest that I should replace the diff fluid, but I couldn't find the front diff of my crv. It's just a trans connect to the driveshaft. Sorry for my bad english man.

    • @hondaresource

No clicking or any other issues besides that. I read that most aftermarket axles seem to have the same vibration. So is it advisable to change the axles? Or should i just roll with it? Cheers

Pry bar will be my best friend on this job. Why did you replace them? Couldn't have just been because of a blown boot. There's a thudding on acceleration coming from the suspension or drivetrain... I can take it out, I haven't drove the car yet for the passengers Axel nut is frozen and can't get it off to change the lower ball joint( I just purchased the car and am finding a lot of things wrong) I think the bearings are shot because smoke kept coming from that wheel at red lights, hence the locked up Axel nut. When I get it back together and drive what will be the symptoms to remove the sway bar, its tight now but like I said one bolt is tight and the other won't completely tighten down. I really appreciate your videos, ive already done a few fixes on my 97 crv including my drivers cv axle just the other day. The inner nuckle completely broke with a pretty liolent response on the highway. I replaced it and it felt good at first, but there is one right curve with a bump in it that seems to set that side off into a fairly violent rotational stutter (happened twice) similar to when it broke. When I pull over and slowly continue it corrects itself. Any idea what this could be? Its only been suggested that it could be the alignment causing it. No noticeable play in bearing and only a little in the tie rods. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

      @@hondaresource Thanks just did that. Question, after replacing the RH axle on my 99' 5spd crv I noticed that the part of the axle shaft that goes into the transmission wobbles a bit after installation, I can move it about 1/8th by hand, . When driving from a stop 20mph to 30mph it vibrates often, it's what it was doing before that's why I replaced it. This is the second one on warranty from the same brand you're using in this video. After driving for a day I notice transmission fluid on the bottom of the tranny coming out the axle seal, I imagine it's due to all that wobbling? I'm getting ready to purchase another axle from a different manufacturer but before I do just wanted to know which one of these post install descriptions is normal or not. I really hope it's not the tranny, thank you.

    Always put the car back on the ground and let the suspension settle
    !!!!! Then when its at ride height
    Tighten all the ball joint and shock bushing bolts tight !!!!!
    (Same with new control arms)
    It locks the bushings where they are going to spend 90% of their time and puts less strain on them. Making them last longer
