My god. Should have learnt how to drive on hills. Never drive in neutral on downhill. 1. The brake might fail due to overheating. 2. Thumb rule is in a particular slope if you use 1st gear while going up, use the same gear in the same place while going down. Same for 2nd/3rd gear. 3. You will always be in control of the car while in gear. Just decrease 1 gear if you think you are going too fast. You are lucky that your brake didnt fail. I am not going into the details of engine braking. আরো একটা কথা জেনে রাখুন, গাড়ি gear e rekhe accelerator e input na dile, ecu engine এর ফুয়েল supply cut off kore রাখে। The wheel will pull the engine. So engine will not stop. Neutral e rakhle ecu engine e fuel input dite thakbe. So it means while going downhill if you put the car in gear and don't give any accelerator input, you will get far better mileage rather than if you put the car in neutral. Dont believe?😎 Btw, I drive an i20 petrol too.

Put it on a lower gear depending on how steep it is and the condition of the road and then apply break only when necessary taking leverage of engine break . This may help you avoid the trouble you had of smoking tyres
