Chaeryeong was an AOTM before Ryujin...
Also, I got into Itzy after Wannabe so my first impression is that Ryujin stood out the most. Chaeryeong got her spotlight too, Yuna, Lia... I don't think we should compare Yeji's situation to Karina's for example. Itzy's treatment might not be perfect, but it's not bad after all

Btw I just pointed out that Chaer has her AOTM because the creator of the video said something along the lines that Yeji got her one first, then there was nothing for a long time, and then Ryujin had hers. Like they've completely missed out the fact that Chaeryeong does have her AOTM. Imo leaving Chaer's AOTM out doesn't help the unfair treatment by any means

For ITZY, it’s not really Yeji and friends because all members are really popular; Chaeryeong was the first to be on public TV before Yeji, Ryujin was on Mix Nine and also acted in the promo clips for BTS with Yuna, and all four of them were in Stray Kids (the reality show). And for (G)I-DLE, people shouldn’t really be saying Soyeon and friends because she is THE backbone for the group and does literally everything and has the most experience out of all members, so it’s quite fair

@@Lea-jm4wg To be fair not a lot of exposure was given to Lia as JYP labeled her their "secret hidden weapon/card." And from the very beginning she got a lot of hate for her dancing which also isn't fair to her. She is working with 4 main dancers and all rounders while Lia's main training was vocals not dance. The fact that she makes the choreography look easy should be enough to make haters realize that she has so much potential and that the dances for Itzy are fast paced and hard to remain stable while singing and dancing yet Lia still keeps up.
Plus for g idle, Soyeon doesn’t even have the most lines in all the songs.

Well for itzy, Yeji and Ryujin are the official dance break centers because of their unbeatable facial expressions and the reason why she got so many lines is because she is the groups core performer means she is very stable and well rounded.. And JYPE didn't choose yeji to be in the Studio choom artist of the month but the studio choom itself and 3 of the 5 members of itzy where gotten a chance too.. As for the outfits idk that one.. Let's just hope Chae got dance break

Why do midzys always say that yeji is the most favored member. As a 10 yr old kpop fan, I can say that itzy has the most equal line distribution and gets equal exposure.

@@hellno639 when it comes to facial exp, ryujin is the best in itzy, while yeji has the most consistent stage presence. Yuna's facial expression tends to be awkward and uncomfortable at times. And dancing is subjective, so you can't say that one dancer is better than the other. In your opinion, chae may be a better dancer, but yeji and ryujin's dance styles suit itzy's concept and choreo the best. Thus, they get more center time.
However, i would also appreciate if jyp makes a cb for itzy that would best suit chae and give her a dance break
I'm so confused on the ITZY part! Chaeryeong got AOTM too before Ryujin. Plus JYP doesn't decide that it's the studio. Their line distribution is really fair. And since Wannabe, Ryujin has clearly been the most popular member but the rest are still very famous and recognised. Chaeryeong was famous since she was 13 years old!! I really don't think anyone considers ITZY to be Yeji & Friends anymore.

But Yeji was chosen artist of the month first cuz she deserves it. Then Ryunjin appeared third after Chaeryong cuz they deserve it too. I don't think we can call ITZY "Yeji and Friends"
Yaaazz. It's because yeji and chae are the main dancers they would obviously be picked first. Aotm was exclusively for main dancers only, they made an exception for ryujin. Now tell me that members are not given equal promotion. I'm honestly tired of midzys victimizing the other members and making yeji look bad.
Damn wonyoungs solo debut is going really well. They literally created a girl group just to promote Wonyoung. if i was a member of ive i'd literally cry myself to sleep.

I believe that at first when aespa debuted they were kind of a Karina and friends group (in black mamba and next level eras I think). But since savage to Dreams come true, I feel like each member is getting to shine in their own individual ways too. For example Giselle gets more rapping lines, ningning and winter also get more high notes which allows the spotlight to be on them too

@@kpopvibes9312 Idts. I never felt Karina and friends and I am following them from pre debut era. Yeah Karina was pushed bcs she was face of group before debut but from their debut era until now I never felt it as every member got time to shine in their own way
And even now with Karina and Winter being in a new group with other SM artists (which is a rotating unit kinda like NCT so it's probably gonna have Giselle and NingNing) Winter and NingNing we're the ones who performed the christmas song with other idols in the recent festival (idk what that event is called). Gigi and Ning2 were also both featured on songs with other SM artists in the new SMTOWN album so I think they're all promoted equally now.
@@vaanshichauhan9868 same i think sm was pretty strategic of how promoting the girls. They had to push Karina a little bit because for the group to be successful, they needed a strong center. And for that people needed to know who she was. Legit every group from the big3 had that one member in their debut. Ningning was in sm rookie so she was already a well know trainee and didn't that much predebut promotion. Giselle was label as the new top sm female rapper and the fastest trainee. Then Winter was the hidden members that had no promotion which made her stand out.
Ye im a fan but never really felt like its karina and friends... Obviously sm push karina for more opportunities but when shes with her members she doesnt overshadow them to the point where it look like backups
The IVE one is so disappointing because IVE is such a new group that barely debuted a month ago, it’s definitely seeming like a Wonyoung and Yujin and friends, but I think it’s also seeming to seem like Wonyoung and Friends.. I think there was one stage when all the members wore black dresses except Wonyoung who wore a white dress, making the other girls look like her backup dancers, I think on the same stage I just talked about, all the members were in position on the stage meanwhile the cameras were on Wonyoung coming in, I’m afraid IVE is gonna go down the same way 4minute did

Yujin was also coming in from the other side of the stage during that performance. But here's the thing, as you mentioned, they have just debuted, of course the company will try to push the already famous ones to garner interest to the group speaking from business side of thing. Literally almost every group goes through this phase of having one member being pushed especially the visual or face of the group to get public's attention in one way or another.
However, if this continues for more than a year, then yes, you may criticise and protest to the company. but as of now, the excessive highlighting of this issue is quite over the top.

no, aespa is not Karina and friends. The four girls are getting well marketed, Karina is the leader and center so it's natural she was pushed first, but now it's very balanced. I've never heard people call them like that before.
As an itzy stan and Yuna biased (😭💔) I can definitely say that in the beginning jyp promoted yeji a lot!!
However Jyp has definitely started giving the girls a lot of solo projects and gives them equal promotions!! Im honestly really content with how he's handling them!! He gives them projects that carter to every girls skills and strong points ( Lia got to sing an OST! Yuna MC and center time!!, Yeji, Chaer and Ryu in dance performances!!)
I think the discrimination comes from the uneven popularity amongst the girls. Yeji and ryujin undoubtedly are the most popular members rn by a lot and all their projects get a lot of hype while the rest of the girls aren't that hyped so a lot of their projects go a bit unnoticed by the general public!!
aaaah I'm also super Yuna biased!!! I agree with everything you said :) and sadly with popularity comes hate. Hope that Yeji wouldn't care too much about the haters :/
I think I've seen articles about Yuna a lot lately on her visuals. And she's been given a lot of MC roles. So JYP now knows how to manage Itzy ! But I would say that Lia and Chae are not as popular as the other members and Lia's treatment's a bit worser than the others. She had no pre-debut exposure:
Stray Kids survival: Yeji, Ryujin, Yuna, Chae
Acting: Ryujin (BTS' high light reel. Kingdom(movie)). Yuna (BTS' high light reel)
Shows: Yeji - The fan
Ryujin - Mixnine (Won 1st place. YG even offered her a trainee contract)
Chae - Kpop stars with her sister. SIXTEEN
All we had of pre-debut Lia was a YT video of her singing and a photo of her selfie with her foot.
The "Soyeon and friends" is different from the other groups. It's Soyeon who does everything, and no, SHE IS NOT SELFISH. She is smart. Everyone is saying "cube is trash", which is true. That's why she is trying her best to be recognised, and to showcase her producing skills & talent, so whenever cube makes mistake with her, every company will be fighting to get her. Which is very smart from her. Sm is literally like the uncle for Soyeon. G-idle wouldn't have even debuted without her, because Cube didn't make a debut song for them, and do you know who wrote the song for G-idle? - Soyeon did EVERYTHING. She even produced a whole mini-album for G-idle ( Senorita ), she choreographed, wrote, produced almost every single song from G-idle. G-idle is nothing without Soyeon ( btw this is not hate ). G-Idle has one of the best ( if not THE best ) discrography from 4th gen, and it's all thanks to HER. Imagine G-idle without Soyeon. I love all G-idle members, but without her they are nothing, I don't even think they would've even debuted without her, because I expect NOTHING from cube entertainment. Imagine producing a whole girl group in your twenties. And remember how Soojin was kicked from Cube? Even tho she was innocent? Now imagine cube kicking Soyeon. Every company ( mainly SM ) will fight for her. Who doesn't want a girl in her twenties, that can write, produce, choreograph AND RAP. So this is very understandable that she is giving herself the most lines. And the people who hate her and call her selfish, should stop doing it.
And the members agree on choreography, and line distribution. The only thing unfair about their group are the lines. Something they all decide upon. Every member is successful right now (aside from soojin).

For the Soyeon part.. I'm not even mad about how she has more stuff to do or promotions than the members or what delulu haters claim. SHE is the backbone, leader, main rapper and producer of the group. Literally produced THE best songs and my personal favorites like Lion, Oh my god, and Hwaa. I also heard that the members choose the lines they sing or parts they get? But I'm not entirely sure about that
Edit: ok so now I noticed my weird wordings here but I'd like to clarify here that I do not agree on the group being called as "Soyeon and friends" each member has their own charms and talents that contributes to the group's success that we do see because ALL of them have exposure and promotions done as a group or as individuals. So none of them are getting ignored. Oh and Soyeon isn't the only one who produces their group's songs too, Other members also produces their songs and partake in the group's songs too(I know that if not all then some members produce their own songs and partake in the group's) I just said that because the songs I stated above are my personal favorites
Another edit: Since people are saying I'm fine with the members getting 'ignored' I'm gonna say more. In my comment I said that I'm not mad about her getting the promotions she deserves. I was only saying that those promotion she has are well deserved but Cube decided to be unfair to every member. I only said I'm not mad that she has those solo promotions. Cube is a big but shitty company that doesnt know how to manage their idols well so that their charms can be shown to the public and that they can build their fanbase, reputation and popularity for the obvious bias and discrimination towards other idols. In my comment i stated that I wasn't mad about her getting so many promotions because each of those she deserves. I'm not saying that the other members should be "ignored" they all should have the promotions, activities and the attention they all deserve from their company.

in ITZY's case, I don't think it would be “Yeji and Friends" because they got to shine individually before debut. Chaer being on sixteen and ryujin on mixnine, etc. In the case of their outfits, take not shy for example where they all got “experimental" outfits. The line distributions are quite fair, if you think of it as the bsides give other members more lines. Chaer and Ryu gets to be AOTM as well, and chaer would occasionally get dance breaks on special stages like year end shows and award shows.
Aespa Winter is having a huge boost of popularity, NingNing was always famous and Giselle is getting recognised as great 4th gen female rapper so I really don't think you can label them Karina and friends...never even heard ANYONE referring to them like that lol

Still a company should create a group so that at least more than ONE member can showcase their talents. Like come on ,Mia is great and im happy for her also its not her fault. But why debut a group with one member that has the most outstanding talents ? Her having some important titles such Main vocal does not justify that she gets basically ALL the most outstanding lines. Aespa? I don't think so? As a my, I don't see there's favoritism in aespa because all 4 members shine differently. Ningning got a lot more lines in their song, and that's understandable because she's the main vocal. She's also cute, pretty and sexy at the same time🥰
Winter got the second member who got a lot of lines, she's main vocal material and very pretty
VISUAL. She also ranked 1st in GGBR twice. She got her 1st solo performance in mama 2020.
Karina is the center, fotg, visual leader, so, understandably, she got a lot more screentime. She's also the leader so she's the one who should talk first. Her unique visuals always shook knetz and makes her popular.
Giselle is one of the great 4th gen rappers, she has a great flow and style. Producers also let her write her parts. She's the English speaker in the group that's why she got a lot more screentime when they are overseas.
SM gives the aespa members the same attention. Their outfits in mv and performances are always balanced, the 4 of them shine in their costumes. SM also let the 4 of them to collab with their seniors.
I dont think aespa falls into this category anymore. Karina was the one who was promoted a lot when they debuted but now each members are given a chance to collab and perform

People also should realize that Karina is a Leader that is also the Center of the Group. Magazine Photoshoots is also decided by the client such as Creative Director so it isnt Karina's fault. Lets not blow this out of proportion

I'm sorry but Soyeon's shine is fair. She literally was in Produce 1O1 and Unpretty Rapstar. Her member always praising her and her talent. I'm a Neverland almost 4 year and this is just a problem of non-fans. And she's not just an idol like Yeji, Yujin, Woyoung and Karina. She's the producer, choreographer, songwriter etc. This is not the same story y'all.

I dont think aespa is "Karina and friends". Admitting that Karina pushed more in their debut, but now everyone having their solo promotions and getting good amount of lines & screen time! Giselle and NingNing's collab songs released yesterday, and Winter solo stage on MAMA 2020 like many more solo promos ! We can't complain more about that, because Karina is the center, FOTG, Main dancer and possibly visual of the group

I'm shocked that this chanel did not mention "Hyuna feat. 4Minute", because that one was indeed the biggest case of "Nicole and the Pussycat Dolls" in Kpop.
Most people only knew of Hyuna, maybe another one or two members but that was it.Most did not even remember the leader's name.
Heck, I only ever only remembered Jiyoon because she was my bias(back then she was the only female idol I knew that had a deeper voice) and Gayoon because of her voice as well that her name ended in "yoon" so due to Jiyoon I remembered Gayoon as well.
Disagree with the ITZY and AESPA one, each member are getting the recognition they deserve.
Mia is in fact the main vocal of everglow. Even if Sihyeon gets the highest notes and is the lead vocal, Mia is still the main vocalist.
But the other members deserve more lines,they are talented too
Mia is the ace of the group. She can sing, rap and dance and has amazing stage presence, also her facial expressions are on point. She's amazing at everything

Mia is a main vocalist, main dancer, rapper and the face of the group. I'm not surprised she’s being pushed given how talented she is. No hate to other girls but only Mia, Onda and Aisha have a strong stage presence. I think those three should get the most center time, EU should have a dance break sometimes and Mias less lines, but still usually the most, given her position. Tbh I think EU shouldn’t be the main dancer together with Mia since Mia is a much better dancer according to dancers analysis (It’s on TH-cam) but since the company made her one she should be treated accordingly

First of all, Mia is the main vocal of the group and it's totally normal that she have the most lines. It's like that in every group because the position of the main vocal has some meaning if none of you have figured it out yet. leave everglow alone, especially mia because she has already suffered a lot from people who hate her for everything she does.

2. mia is not the only member who’s continuously had bright hair, onda has also been bleaching hers since debut

Actually Yuqi got an animated video for gigants and I'm pretty sure she filmed the video for Bonnie and Clyde while promoting in China. So she got 2 videos. And it did sound like it was all a bit rushed, so she would have something to promote while in China.
Minnie was in a Netflix show and did a lot of promoting in Thailand.
Miyeon have been in multiple web series, done colabs, is a MC and has her own talk show. She if also now officialy Ahri forever after promoting Ahris 10th birthday for LOL.
The only member in Gidle that haven't had their own time to shine is Shuhua.
Cube isn't pushing any one member more than the other, they are all pushing and promoting themselves Cube just sits back and collects the profits.

ITZY: "Yeji and friends"...are you kidding me?
Imo the attentiom on ITZY usually seems to be spread between the best dancers of the group(Yeji, Ryujin and Chaeryeong), while Yuna as the visual will get her own recognition(she has been MCing many things too) and Lia recently got her first OST(as Lia is more of a vocal-focused person).
They all shine in their own way and if you follow the shows they go on(or even JYP's "reality shows" of the groups) you would see how each member has their spotlight.

Soyeon gets indeed a bit more of fame but that's because she *MAKES* IDLE's songs, she is the literal reason why they debuted at the time frame they did and why they were able to consistently make comebacks after comebacks(until Soojin's scandal).
She takes into consideration the opinions and thoughts of the girls, they all worked together in every part of their comebacks, that's a legit team effort.But of course a team always needs a leader, someone able to focus a team's skill towards their work and be able to be a bridge between the team and the higher ups.
Soyeon is that.If anything, although she is younger than some members, she is the one that cares for them, she always took into consideration Shuhua's unwillingness or fear of singing too much(probably because she feared mixing up the lyrics due to her-back then- lack of proficiency in Korean...or lack of confidence in her language skills).If Shuhua wanted to have more lines, she would, Soyeon ain't a dictator, she knows what's like to be scared and uncertain due to her past in survival shows.

If anyone complains about Soyeon in idle, they are clueless. Soyeon does everything for that group, including producing their biggest hits and making sure the lyrics are changed in order to help other members, especially the foreign ones. Soyeon deserves all the limelight.
I disagree with the aespa thing. Karina is the leader of the group, the face and center of the group. It is inevitable that it should be in the foreground. But there is no exaggeration in this. As the SMtown concert approached, SM recruited Karina and Winter into the temporary group GOT, and gave Ning and Giselle collaborations with other SM artists. In addition, Karina is a leader who tries to highlight her group members at every opportunity. You can tell that he is not a stagnant aespa member, since all members are in the top ten in the monthly reputation rankings.
I actually disagree in aespa because all members have a solo promotions so no "Karina and friends" but in Yujin and Wonyoung, I kinda agree with that. and about in Yeji, Soyeon and Mia, it's not their fault if they have a most lines in their songs because i think the reason why the three always have to most line because in their songs, the producer thinks that their voice are most suitable than the other members.

I generally love SM groups but I can’t get into Aespa because of the blatant favouritism. Karina is pushed so hard for no reason. She is an ok dancer but is stiff. Putting her with Kai was a mistake as it only highlighted her shortcomings. She is not the best singer in the group or rapper and they are all beautiful. So there is no justification for it.
SIHYEON isn't the main vocalist, Mia is the main vocalist & main dancer, she's also a rapper for the group, it makes sense she gets all the lines and most center time, she's the main dancer ofc she has to be in the front for choreography, and shes also a main vocalist she isn't going to sing her lines at the back other than that Mia can also rap she's an ACE. I think that this is a technique to attract attention to the group since people initially tend to focus on individuals rather than a group. Then they get to know the rest of the group with time and eventually the group gets popular much faster. As you see these are all new groups. Old groups like BP started out a bit like that (even if not to this extreme) but that garnered attention to the whole group and now they are almost equally popular. One member attracts attention so that the rest of the group gets popular
People are already familiar with Wonyoung and Yujin... It's other members who need more exposure. If Starship keeps doing this then IVE will never be able to become anything more than Wonyoung-Yujin and Friends
Starship isn't pushing wonyoung and yujin because they NEED exposure, they're being pushed because they already HAVE exposure. IVE is a new group so it's easier for them to gather more fans by promoting the 2 most popular members so that their established fanbase and the general public who already know them will be enticed to check out IVE. Through them, IVE will get more attention and in effect, so will the other 4 members. Tbh I don't think ITZY is as serious as other groups. The first member I knew in ITZY was Ryujin , after that Yeji and Yuna (Take note that I wasn't a Kpop fan in 2019). Though Yeji might be promoted a little bit more by the company, I do think the other members do get their equivalent promotes such as MC-ing . I don't stan their group but sadly I do think there are 2 members that doesn't really get much attention.

I have to say that I strongly disagree with the Aespa as “Karina & Friends.” Karina is the leader and she’s the center, and I would understand if she’s the main visual too. She actually seems to get smited quite a bit lately. She gets cut off of pics of the group on social media, doesn’t get to post as much, and had a scandal because what, she’s pretty? She also doesn’t get a ton of lines in songs as of late. Not too mention, all members shine in Aespa in their own way. Winter was considered SM’s “secret weapon,” and NingNing vocals are incredible. And I mean, Giselle is Giselle lol. I don’t hate Giselle, I just haven’t found anything that has her stand out to me yet. All the girls together are stupid talented and a really good match up, but SM is fucking it up with their poor management of Aespa. None of this is Karina’s, NingNing’s, Winter’s, Giselle’s or Aespa’s fault as a whole. Let’s not bring unnecessary hate to Aespa, because they get enough of that already. Also, leave Soyeon from (G)IDLE alone.

Aespa is 100% Winter and friends when it comes to how they're treated. She has the most lines in every song, gets all the best parts, has 80% of the screentime in MVs, and has the most effort put into her by stylists and set designers. For ITZY, I'd say Ryujin is treated as the main girl, and sometines Yuna. I feel like in general, the visuals are always treated the best, and Ryujin is the only exceptions because she has that 'badass main girl' vibe. All members of Aespa & ITZY are amazing tho, but I do wish members like Gizelle and Charyeoung were treated better.

When it comes to Karina this is so far from the truth. As a new fan of Aespa - not to say that I didn't know them beforehand, I just got to become a fan recently - I don't believe that SM is pushing for favouritism. All the girls are very much hyped in their own way - to some extent some more than others but otherwise not single one is pushed more than the other. Their talents are highlightened and since Karina is the leader of the group, it's natural to SM groups to have their leader be placed in the most worked postions as they need to work 10 times harder to uphold the groups image. Not to mention, she is considered an ace. This overall same thing is significant in Taeyongs role in NCT. He doesn't overshadow the other members but he does have specific roles that he needs to fulfill - so the question is not so much about favouritism but about overwork and the ideals attached to the leader position in groups.
Im Ningning biased and I appreciate what all the members in Aespa are given tbh. This is just the start of their career so there's a lot more to come.
In comparison to a group like Blackpink - that lacks the leader role and with an equal division of roles, Jennie is pushed as a singular member. Moreso over the middle of their careers than in the beginning.
In the case of Soyeon, I wouldn't say she is favoured either even tho she should be. She is undoubtedly talented. She writes the groups songs. She produces music as well and much more. Her role requires for the company to actually take care of her in a very significant way. Quite the contrary, I wish more appreciation was shown towards Soyeon. She is one of the most talented people to ever step foot into the Kpop industry.
I think the reason why karina was given the solo introduction with AE is because she was the leader and as a leader we know what their job is.

That fact that my biases Karina, Soyeon, and Mia are on the list. I could say that they don't outshine the members because they are just a very talented indeed individuals. It's just the company's fault or any. We don't need time to blame any of this girls. Soyeon is the great example of an amazing leader for me because she writes her rap and even their song. Truly a great example of a leader that shines through and as a whole group ✨❤️.
in my opinion, all rounders like mia, soyeon and yeji should become a soloist instead, to avoid people complaining about them standing out too much
