Hi there Daniel, thanks for doing this review. I'm a similar level to you and went from Quickie Helium to Tiga. I'm due a new chair and was looking at Octane or Tiga Sub4. Just a couple of questions.. 1) Were you measured with the Jay back/cushion taken into account? 2) I occasionally push via the tyres rather than the rims - do your Ellipse 3R give you similar grip and security? Were your Ellipse rims an additional cost? 3) Octane Sub 4 v Tiga Sub 4....is the price difference worth it? Thanks
Hi there. Glad you found it helpful. 1) I did have the jay back on my old chair when I was measured, and then transferred it to the new chair as I disliked the fabric backrest 2) the ellipse rims are great - the rubber grip strip is ideal for even the steepest of hills. The only very minor annoyance is catching your hand on it if going down a steep slope fast, but I really rate it. They were a bit extra yes 3) I can’t really answer this, it’s very personal. For me aluminium was a no brainer. I love titanium and fancy things in general, but I knew that my first custom chair was going to be used and abused daily, and maybe didn’t want to put a nice ti chair through that (not that it wouldn’t stand it, more cosmetic wise). The weight difference is not huge. I don’t regret getting alu so for me it’s not worth the extra price currently, but over time as I come to understand what I want and need from a chair I may change my mind
Don't get me wrong, they are great tyres in the sense of longevity and puncture protection, but yes, a huge faff to get on and off. I recently got a puncture in London with Schwalbe One tyres which was relatively easily remedied, but never an issue I had with the marathon plus. So far the trade off is worth it.
@@Queenmania2007 oh I love them...and currently have the Schwalbe Evolution tyres on both chairs. I just decided to go tubeless...which you can do with the Schwalbe Evolution tyres. I honestly have nothing else bad to say about them. But quadriplegics with no or poor hand function or weird rims (like with power assist wheels), these are NOT the tyres for you.

I think my final build came up around £5400, though it can vary depending on what extras you have e.g. backrest, cushion, accessories like front wheel etc. It's a lot of money and there are ways to get help like Access to Work (if you're employed and in the UK), various charities or making a JustGiving page.
