i know a guy that has a 70 Ram Air IV, black with sandalwood, auto. All original with 22k on it. Amazing car. Can't believe how the paint looks like it is 3 years old but its 53 years young.

That makes me miss my '71 T-37. May not be the big money car, but it still looked the part. I always loved the Pontiac fender lines, grills and headlights.

Me too..... and it's a case of "Yes and No!" We saw and even owned GTOs, some hard top and some convertibles. But we didn't see this car. Today you can find a great "70 GTO Hard top or Convertable for barely more than the average price of a new car. This car, on the other hand, is fetching the price tag it got here because you never saw it back in the day. Most all of these super big price tag auction results are examples of cars that look like the more pedestrian models we saw in traffic every day in the 1970s......but if you think back......how many Muscle cars that sell for 7 figures today did we actually see in traffic? I remember a bunch of GTOs, Camaros, Cudas and Corvettes many were Soft top.......yet I'm pretty sure none of those GTOs were Ram Air 4 cars, the Corvettes weren't L88 or ZL1 variants and the Cuda Rag tops weren't Hemi cars. Most of the cars that received these special engines were almost always hard tops and usually they headed straight to race tracks where many got abused to point of total failure. Rag tops with these motors are as rare as hen's teeth and in that you find where the crazy high price tags come from.

It's kind of crazy but I remember a local family that was really into hot cars back in the late 70's & 80's. This friend of mines sister had a red 70 GTO convertible with 4 speed and I remember they took a 1500 mile or so trip to go buy this GTO. Back then where I live only had 20K or so people and this car was one of the hottest cars in town at the time. Anyhow I don't remember the exact price they paid for the GTO back then but it wasn't really crazy money or anything. Wow now these cars really bring the money!

I guess it's worth what someone is willing to pay for it. It's all subjective but it's a beautiful car. A third pedal and an M-22 would have made it 100% IMO. That orbit orange looks a lot better on that body than on a school bus or Caterpillar 😀

You got me curious, so I looked up the original prices from 1970. The 70 gto convertible was $3492. Adding "The Judge" package was $337. And the Ram Air IV engine was an extra $558. So, it was actually more like about $4387. Of course, you probably could have negotiated it down a little bit at that time.

Extremely rare. Those body line decals are just hairy butt ugly! Maybe that's why it's so rare. RA IV convertible Judge with a decal delete would be more rare. I'd want that one. A marketing fail from a TV show to sell the top-line muscle car? Hated it then and still hate it. $1M? Good for you. Money to burn.
