  • Have you ever found a gem in an unexpected place? While on a hunting trip to Kansas, I did just that. I purchased an original and rare Marlin Model 39. The Annie Oakley rifle!

I inherited one of these from my dad who was born in 1915. It has the octagonal barrel and still fires great all the time.

This is a rifle (or the 39a) that Ruger should bring back. I'd buy one for sure

Hi from over the pond. My Wife and I dropped lucky like you. We managed to purchase an 1897 Marlin just like yours with round barrel and a 39m with short octagonal barrel. Both great little rifles and a rarity here in the U.K.We love them both.

Am fortunate enough to be in possession of a Marlin Mod 39 ( no A )with Serial # S1360X. Marlin's website says it was born somewhere from 1923-25. It doesn't belong to me, just holding it and as i get closer to the curtain i'll be returning it to it's rightful owner. It too has a 24" octagonal barrel, 13" length of pull, and 40" over all length. It misfeds if rolled on it's side or cycled slowly, but held upright and worked normally, it's superbly accurate at 100 yds. with a cheap BSA 4-7 power scope. When it's together, it's difficult to see the mating lines A solid rifle . . .

Great shootings plus a great old gun. This 39 is perfect in every sense. I actually prefer the 39 over the 39A & 39M. It's a real classic with colour case hardened plus the octagonal barrel. The peep sight makes it even nicer to shoot accurately. I wish we could find a gem like this in Canada. Thanks for making this video!

My Model 39 has magazine where the outer tube slides up and locks in the open condition with a spring catch at the top of the inner magazine tube. It's a S-prefix 4 digit serial number, with a star* stamped in the tang.

Marbles also makes a folding rear sight and taller front sights. I put them on a centennial model. Use the folding rear for 25 yards and the Tang sight for 75 yards etc.

You need to research what you are talking about. The 39 was named so for the year it was first produced. Marlins first .22 lever gun was the 1891 sideloader. The 1891 was produced in what is considered 4 variations. Then the 1892 produced in 1895. Then the first take down .22 lever was the 1897. Then the 39, 39 S serial numbers and then the 39 HS serial for High Velocity. Then the 39A.

I don't believe you ruined a piece of history & a work of art by drilling and tapping the peep site. You should have used a more modern. .22.
