Loved seeing all of the polk 1930 monuments. I was just at the one on the Old Tampa Highway a couple weeks ago filming for a facebook comment. Polk History is out there you just have to look for it. Great Video.
Great citrus center video today. That third monument looked a little snake infested at the bottom glad that you didn’t see any. Keep up the great work man. You are the best on TH-cam.
At 11:38 you can see a concrete square on the ground in front of the monument. This is one of the foundations of a concrete arch that used to span across the road prior to the citrus monument. Thanks for another beautiful video, Adam.
Oh wow! What a great vlog today. I love when you look at things that most people never would notice. I think you could have a future in this you tube thing. Lol! Nice job!

Thanks for documenting Polk County, and thanks for revisiting the abandoned highway near Intercession City. You should put a link to your old "Forgotten Swamp Highway" video. I personally think that is your funniest video (after Cameras Start Fires and Bicycle on the Slide). There are two more of those markers (smaller ones) in "North" Lakeland: at both ends of Carpenters Way. The smelly citrus plant in Auburndale: 9:00
Love the Video this morning Adam! Best way to start my Birthday! How is your Dad? I hope to see a Orange Circle video when you get back!! Be safe on your travels.
I've been down that road... seen that monument... partied with friends there... a long, long time ago. I swear, that road used to "end" not too far from that monument as it was too overgrown to be passable. Was great meeting you at the Saint Cloud Lakefront, you made my wife's day!
Very cool Adam the Woo! I live in Polk County FL. Welcome to Polk! Safe travels! I live near the one at the corner of 92 and 574. Very cool to have you in town!
I use to go to my Grand mothers place in Lakeland and my Uncle Bow would take me to the phosphate pit to look for fossils. You should really try and see if there are any around there. Found a big meg shark tooth. Till I was older I thought they really must have liked phosphate. Because there were a lot there. ;)
The Phosphate Pits around Bradley Junction are the most plentiful for Sharks Teeth and Bones. Used to be an attraction there called the Bone Valley Fossil Museum. Long since gone.

While you're in the Polk County area, you may want to check out the Lake Wales History Museum, a nifty free museum housed in a former train depot, has lots of Polk County memorabilia, and includes a restored vintage train. Its called the Depot Museum. Very cool, and free.
Pretty cool! Springfield Tn still has a few monuments standing which held a large Iron sign that once read “Springfield, TN World’s Finest Dark Fired Tobacco” from when the city used to produce the most and best dark fired tobacco back in the day.
I remember driving past that monument on the corner of hwy 98 and SR 54 many times back in the 70s & 80s on the way to concerts in Lakeland at the civic center. Always wondered what it was for. Its sad to think that 89 years ago Polk county must have been 75% filled with citrus trees, now it probably only has less than 100 acres of citrus..
We are local and have driven by the third monument many times. My grand kiddies call it the Blood Bucket Trail and I'm amazed you did not mention it. The very few older families know all about that title. It's a legend going back to the turn of the 19th century when Loughman was a thriving small town not for citrus but for its massive lumber reserves. A day long trip for the county judge coming from Kissimmee once per month. It's infamous hanging tree located just beyond this monument. Especially scary at Halloween as this road super haunted. If you looked real close an abandoned house way out in the field.
I went to see two of these. I need to go to #2. Also, I was driving somewhere around Eagle Lake/Eloise/Winter Haven when I found what looked like another one beside the road in front of an old house. But it had no words on it. I’m going to go see if I can find it again.
I knew exactly where you were in the beginning cuz I drive by sometimes and used 2 live around there. I shared your live stream last night with my friend who lives in St. Cloud but he just missed u.
G'day, Adam! Nice job! This little monument is a forgotten slice of American history. "The road here was called the Old Dixie Highway, and was built sometime in the 1920's. It's made out of brick! At one time it was paved over, but the pavement is gone in many areas and it's easy to see the brick surface. Along one side of the road are some rural homes, and the other side is still empty Florida forest land." "Polk county, Florida built at least three citrus monuments to attract tourists and (hopefully) convince people to move to Florida. They were all built around 1930, during the early part of the depression." "An interesting note about this one is the mis-spelling of it - it actually was engraved "citurs" center, and the mistake remains to this day. There is unfortunately some graffiti on the lower part of this monument, but you can still get an idea of how impressive it must have looked as you bumped (rolled) along the red brick road in your (Tin Lizzie) Model T!" As you know, it's fairly easy to find with a good map. Directions: I-4 exit 58. East on Hwy 532/Osceola Polk Line Rd for a little more than four miles. Cross the railroad tracks, then *immediately* turn right (south) onto Old Tampa Highway/Old Kissimmee Rd. (This is just before you get to US 17/92.) The road runs for a little less than two miles, and the monument is on your right. Alternate directions: 17/92 south of Kissimee, turn right onto Labor Camp Rd. then turn right, go about a half-mile or mile and it's on your left. Thank you so much for sharing... "The Forgotten Relics of Polk County Florida!" Cheers! 😊✌🏼🚙❤️
The one thing I did notice other than the misspelling on the third monument was the fact the first monument said Welcome to... The others said Welcome in... 🤔Berry interesting...
I saw that, too. The second and third monuments were like that. If I have a complaint, it's that he doesn't give enough history or information. Why were they built? Why were they placed in those particular places? Were there ever plaques on them?
@@imdeplorable2241 Well, my one guess is they mark the corners of the county.. But as far as plaques being on them. Not really likely.. Because if there were, they would have been bolted into the monument or fastened in a way it wouldn't have just fallen off.. If done with a glue of sorts there would have been residue left behind.. And if by bolts, holes left behind.. Neither were present, so my conclusion is one was never there..
