  • The owner interview series, a selection of classic owners talking about their cars, in this case its John Evans with his A40 , filmed in the mid nineties, i have often wondered if john ever got his dads A40 running again.

    I was going to buy one of these cars back in the late sixties.It was an original car ,no rust drove like a dream.The only thing wrong with the car was the paint had faded.Even the original raidio still worked which had to warm up before it worked. The only reason I didn’t buy the car was my father talked me out of it.And I have regretted it ever since.I often think about that car to this day.

      I had several of them in mid to late 60s here in Canada! They would twobit you to death but great if you could work on them yourself.

      I think most old cars are 'money pits' welding in particular unless you do it yourself

    Lovely old Somerset, great lines these Austins have, i was always a 50s Ford man at heart, but had a soft spot for all 50s Austins, now im totally converted, i now own 3 Austin Metropolitans, my fav British Car. This guy John is a lovely man and so passionate about his Somersets and why not, been with his family all that time, and still the proud owner. Good for you John

      My father had a couple of them in the 1950s, always was an Austin man. I do wonder if John actually managed to get his dad's car back on the road. I have been contacted by a couple of lads who have appeared in these videos (the A30/35 ones) but not John , I think these tapes are over 25yesrs old now.

    Just came across this video again which I made many years ago. I had never read the comments before. I still have nox902 which is actually booked in for a respray later this year. 293BMG was sold to a neighbour in 2012. He had the engine reconditioned and it went to some garage for work but the chap almost ran off with the car. It had been sitting out in the open and had deteriorated considerably but at least he eventually got it back. My friend became ill and so in late 2021 I bought it back, did a lot of work to the brakes etc to get it mobile and sold it to a classic car dealer up north somewhere. Shaun Taylor, I’m not sure if you bought it off him or whether you still have it? I noticed it was for sale on Classic cars and campers website a while ago where it didn’t look too bad apart from the os front wing and interior which had really deteriorated. Hopefully it is with a good owner now. John.

      Hi John, nice to know you, so YOU are the star in this video well done, it has proved popular over the last couple of years.Nice to know you and the cars are still around 👍👍

      Thanks. I bought the car in 2000 and I think the video was made in 2001. I remember having no time to prepare, no script and it was done with just one take. Rather stressful! I later recall speaking to a man over on holiday from Australia. He said you're the Austin video man! I had no idea the recording had travelled so far.

    Brilliant. So modest and understated. You've shamed me into getting my Somerset out again. It's asleep in one of my garages, but every time I get it out I think the same thing : why don't you do this more often? Take care.

      I'm the same with my Austin seven BIll, it only comes out for drives to local events then its back under dustsheets, and of course this year was a wipeout, Next year doesn't look too good either, my biggest rally event of the year has been cancelled again, I'm hoping the later events will be on but I'm not holding my breath. Merry Christmas and a happy new year anyway...

      I wondered if he got his dad's cars back on the road, as this was filmed in the 1990s I doubt if we will ever know, however I have had folks who have appeared in these interviews contact me with information so maybe one day....😃

      @@jackflashvintagemotoring7586 It says his one 293 BMG was last MOT'd in 2011 and is still taxed. his dads one NOX902 is allegedly taxed, so they might be, although that doesn't mean anything and they might just be a license plate with the log book wrapped around it in a cupboard.

    • @jackflashvintagemotoring7586
      @jackflashvintagemotoring7586  ปีที่แล้ว

      NOX902 had a new V5c issued only last year and 293BMG had a new one in September this year so it looks like they have survived,
