Your a legend! I tried this ,had an electrical fault.. cleaned all the battery terminals and took out the fuse box. Opened to up and had water on the board. Used electrical sprayed and placed in a towel and on the radiator.. placed back in and hey presto. Cheers dude!

So I guessed the box was totally knackered!! Went and got another fuse box from the local scrapyard £20v(make sure serial code is same as your old fuse box) cleaned it up and fitted new fuse box in hey bristo!! the megane fired up!! Hi Paul I was in dire straights as I received the "Steering Locked", Steering not locked message today, I drive a Renault Megane Dynamic 2 and was fearing the worst. The last time I had this problem I had to fork our thousands. After watching your video i decided to give it a go, and without even needing to take my unit out, i basically just unplugged and plugged back in a few of the plugs on my fuse-box and magically the error disappeared and my car started again! Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Renault driver all over the world gets screwed on service and price daily and I thank you for being the difference.
I just had this error.. the car just stoped while I was driving and the "Eletronic Fault" message poped up.. i took all the fused box out .. cleaned the box.. cleaned the connectors, made sure that the box fuses were ok.. and nothing, the car still did not want to start.. then i moved to the battery fuses and with a electric tester found out that one of the 30A fuses was burned.. In my case some of the car electronics were working ok ( radio, windows, alarm, etc ).. but the car did not started because of the Electronic Fault message, with a cable i jumped the fuse and move the car to my garage mean while i buy the fuse at the local shop.. Thanks for this video, it was a great guide.
Many thanks saved a ton as wife drove through large water puddle with the small headlight cover missing and soaked the fuses. Car did not stop there thankfully but when she got home I found it wont start later that day.Seen your video Sorted now!THANKS

so it did work for the e brake? i changed a bulb on my headlights last night and when i tried to drive off from halfords it would not start and it was saying e brake fault? then saying battery low! i managed for it to start but the e brake will not go off..????

Thanks for the upload! Have had this problem for about three years but I just disconnect/reconnect the battery and then it works fine, haven't had the problem for a while now but am quite sure I will come back one day and i will have to clean the fuse box. Thanks again!
Hi paul :) Where i live people keep reversing into my laguna 2.0 petrol auto,I am sure that they have caused the fuel cutoff to kick in (inertia switch) For the grace of god i can't find it anywhere,Fuel pump is fine btw,Done diagnostic obd 11 and no faults,No fuses blown neither,Any help would be most appreciated,No fuel delivery to engine.Thanks again paul,Keep these priceless vids rolling mate ;)
I had to come back to thank you my man! I had like million errors all about electronic. There was lots of water and corrosion between the board and connectors. Followed your steps (I just used some kind of spray for cleaning electronic boards instead of WD40) and fixed it in 20 minutes. Everything works perfect now. Thank you

Hi Paul, Had all this electronic errors coming random on my display. Further more, the cruise control did nok work. Tried your trick, but it did not help. Went to a mechanical auto engineer and he read out 7 different errors on his OBD2 computer. - But he knew the errors from earlier repair of a Scénic, the fault is in the unit sitting on the shaft of the steering wheel, (under the airbag) where all the switches for cruise control, horn, and much more are located. Since I have half a year warranty on this car I just bought, he will change the whole unit - not trying any repair. Hope that it will solve the problem. Hope that this info can help others where cleaning the relay board and plugs don't help. kind regards from Denmark

Thanx Paul. I am in South Africa and it is warm weather. I washed my car and after that the trouble started, so I can believe it is water that caused the damage.
It does sound like a water problem then, try removing the circuit box, disconnect your battery and maybe leave your bonnet open and the circuit board somewhere warm for a few hours, put it all back together and see how it goes. Failing that like o said previously diagnostics will be the only way to go
we have a megane 04 that wont pass emissions due to a fault in the electrical system, that will cost 20 000kr to repair, im gonna give this a try to see if your video can get us back on the road. None the less thx for giving me hope, if all else fails ;)

Paul Higgins Hi Paul I have a problem with my 04 megane it is a 1.9 dci .... when you put the key card in it comes up "steering locked" (the steering lock is physically on) and the car doesn't start ..... should I do the fuse box bit or is it something else ?? .... any ideas much appreciated

I have a same problem with my megane 2 1.4 16v..when I put the card in it comes message "steering locked" and when I push the "start" button i hear some clicks, but the car won` t start..and when I put off the card message is "steering unlocked". I putt the new battery and nothing changed...

Morning Paul Thank you for the reply. So far my car has been diagnosed as a cam belt issue. They've taken rockacover off and the belt is off. Not sure if it's snapped or just come away. The chaps at work haven't had time to do anymore than that at moment. I asked if it's worth putting a new belt on it to see if it starts, but they said in their opinion it's probably damaged the valves and pistons and engine will be buggered. I looked on Internet and can source a second hand engine from brakers yard for about £230 including delivery. Just got to make that decision if it's worth spending about £600 for repair on a vehicle that's almost 10 years old :-( it's been very reliable up until now, which is why I am tempted to get it fixed. As you never know what you will buy with about £1,500. Something that could also go wrong within a few weeks. Good video by the way, I too had to have circuit board cleaned up about 2 years ago due to corrosion.
0:08 if you own a megane its a familiar sight electrical fault on the dash or not,there is always something wrong with them.Had a red 03 plate for 2 weeks and had everything from suspension knocking to a bad starter.Had to fight our money back,bought an 04 scenic 1.5 dCi after,thankfully that is a bit more reliable,other than the damn window regulators
3 years on I’ve had another megane(cheap insurance, my hands were tied, 17 at the time) and it gave no trouble, I miss the thing daily, I completely forgot about this comment and just found it now looking at getting another megane on the cheap because of this issue😂 250 quid for a diesel estate with a fresh test, sounds good to me!
great video thanks,im having a battery drain problem so i stripped out all fuse box and ecu cleaned up with pcb cleaner and used white grease etc to reassemble. checking all wires,i have to check relays as well so crossed fingers .. thanks again.
Brilliant video - brought my Megane back to life, it took two cleans but it worked a treat, thanks. My next hurdle - (and why it failed it's NCT) the fog lights / boot don't work / wont open??
Great video, what are all the fuses? I'm looking for the window fuse (3 door megane). Passenger window won't go down after I connected a regulator wrong on the drivers window. Interior fuses are not blown, thought it might be in the engine bay fuse box?
I love my Renault Scenic Privilege, comfort is great, it has everything I could ever want in features, everything is just in the right place for me, a lovely dashboard display but repairs, repairs, repairs. Renault have skimped on the quality of its parts, except my garage says the exhaust which rarely needs work done on it.

I'm having a problem that unfortunately I can't solve when the car is warm and I go to start it after half an hour and it's struggling to turn on and it's confused. Whereas when it's cold it starts normally. Indicator on the dial for the problem does not show. Thanks

Hi Paul. I was driving along and next moment felt a shudder and Renault Scenic showed "Electrical fault" and stopped right there. Then all the error messages appeared , handbrake could not unlock, not even registering that the keycard has been removed. Disconnected the battery to "reset". No change. What could this be? Could it be a broken cambelt and the electronics trying to protec the car?
Awesome video Paul!! Maybe you can help me. Have a Renault Megane II CC. Could not start it (immobilizer kicks in). Towed it to the shop and they changed the plate that is connected to the - (negative) terminal of the battery due to corrosion. No it starts and everything works but the Service warning light flashes a couple of seconds and then gets continuously lit with the message: Steering check. The shop could not reset the error message and want me to book a new appointment. Read that it might be the "Steering wheel angle sensor" that needs to be reprogrammed. What do you think it might be? Appreciate if you could help me out, Thanks in advance!
Hello guys, for all they have the airbag warning light problem, I had this problem before, I went to Renault service center, they told me the problem is the spiral cable is broken ( it is the part connects the steering wheel airbag with the system, which the arms of the window wipers and head lights are connected to) and the diagnosis was correct. I changed this part ( it costs about 300 US Dollars) and now there is no warning light. If your steering wheel is making a clicking noise when you steer left or right ( like the computer mouse clicks) so, you have the same problem of the broken spiral cable.. I hope I was clear and helpful.
Is the Renault Megane the same as Renault Scenic? I have a 2002 Scenic. The remote control doesn't lock nor unlock. The only lights that work are the headlights, no radio. And of course, no spark. Any advice that can help me out? Thank you from across the miles.
Great video! Just a bit of advice... I have megane and the heater fan won't work in all 4 speeds anymore which I took to garage but seem to think it would be expensive job so I didn't bother. Also for some reason my drivers side back indicator keeps on blowing and replaced 3 bulbs in the last 2-3 months. Could any of the fuses you cleaned up here be related to the fan and back indicator? Could this be a potential fix to those issues? Many thanks
The fan is likely to have corroded pins on connector to termo resistor in blower. it's hard to find the termo resistor and somewhat even tougher to get it out for cleaning, so let it all sit if possible, just unplug the connector and clean both male and female contacts.
As I've said to many of the other posts, this solution will cure most electrical faults on the megane (or any other renault of similar age) it is worth trying as it certainly won't make matters any worse. The only time I experienced the dash completely cut out for myself was when the battery died. However if you are certain your battery is ok try this method and inspect all of your fuses to make sure one hasn't blown.
Hi My Megane Estate 105dci 2008 went crazy yesterday, firstly the Check airbag light came up, then followed by the steering fault, then braking fault, at the same time all the doors started clicking, opening and closing and the lights started going on and off along with the hazard lights, I turned around and went to my garage, who suggested buying a new battery, but as they said this might not be the answer, (as it's possibly an electric fault/ I then tried the car again and all was fine, so drove it away, it was fine today. I started searching for an answer to the problem and came across your video, as it was aslo raining the night before, I'm wondering if this is the same problem and if doing this will solve it? Thanks
Hello guys, I have a Megane 3 1.5 Dci, automatic gearbox. Sometimes I get the error Check auto gearbox, if this happens while driving the D indicator for Drive starts flashing, and it won't accelerate. After I turn the engine off, the same error is displayed and it won't start. The gear is not displayed anymore and it's locked in P. After a few minutes the car starts and dirves like nothing happened. Could this issue be related also to this electric corrosion? I'm not sure but I think it tends to happen more often after I wash the car. Thank you!
No corrosion on my side (Scenic 2 PH2, 2007), USM module looks perfect clean like brand new, I've swapped with other one same model, but problem the same. Engine won't start, just engine fan spinning. ANY IDEAS? :)

Some nights I'm standing there fore 15mins trying to keep it locked without the alarm going off. Have to leave it unlocked at times. Do you know what the problem could be. Thanks
I hope that this Guru can help me. It's been months that the message "risk of motor damage" is appearing written on the panel. The garage has checked the auto more than 10 times, they have been able to "clean" the message but the message keeps on appearing again and again. Have you ever seen this problem? How to solve it?

Hi sorry I'm not sure if this will work for you unless the dashboard actually displays "electronic fault" to be honest this sounds more like a battery or overheating issue
Thanks for your help. I followed the indications shown in the manual in case of electric fault. Push the start 5 times very fast... I did it a few times and finally worked. Left it like that like 3 hours ... retried to start it then and got all lights and indicators flashing ... .. car didnt start but I managed to lock the doors properly with the key ... as no beep or lights were shown when locking the doors .. I would say it must be the battery as you said. .. will check that on Monday and let u know :) Thanks again
Have you tried following the steps in the video yet? The fact that the car actually started means it probably isn't a battery issue. Sounds like a random electric fault, our megane used to lock and unlock while driving until I cleaned out the electrics, it's been fine ever since

Hi sorry to hear that, my only advice would be to try it again, have a good look underneath the chips on the circuit board to see of there is any corrosion and if there is clean it out with wd40 and a piece of paper. also check the fuse for the windows, double check all the earth connectors are securely fastened from when it was taken apart to try the first time, if it still fails to start it may be worth letting a garage have a look at it, this works 9 times out of 10 but renault electrics are notoriously bad and there could be another problem that this won't fix
Water got into the looms in the passenger side of my renault megane convertible cabriolet. I dried all these off and there was some corrosion and a few of the wires seem to be disconnected! Is there any wiring diagram I can look at so I have an idea where the wires connect in the loom again?

Thanks for sharing, I have a Micra 1.5 DCI is has the Renault engine, starts and drives fine, but when driving and I put my foot down engine light comes on red engine light and seems to loose very very slight power, just about to notice the very slight power loss, does not go into limp mode, plugged in a code reader and came back with p0685 ecm/pcm power relay control circuit open and p0670 glow plug control module control circuit open. I have replaced fuel filter and glow plugs, but still same, cleared codes but comes back on Thanks for any help advice guidance

I have a 55 plate Clio, similar thing driving down the road and power assisted steering dash light came on, then the seatbelt dash light, followed by the locking system going mental, engine still running, switched the engine on and off and it worked fine and got me home. Hi Paul! My 2001 rxe 16 vaive hatchback takes 20 to 40 start attempts over about one hour before it finally starts as if nothing was wrong, varoom very smooth once it starts. After a long trip inland it will start every day for a week or so - I live near the sea, do you think it could be the salty air? That is, could it be the same electronic fault? i think the fuse box is in a different place though... Many thanks for your video and help!! Hi, I don't this model of car suffers the same electronic problems, however I would suggest getting some auto diagnostics done at a garage, persistent non starts could be a symptom of a wide variety of things, sensors, inadequate fuel pressure, blockages, low compression...
my 53 scenic diesel headlight bulb went so i fitted new one but then i tried starting it up and it just wasnt starting it said battery low but was told its a new one, it does look new, it eventually started but now says parking break fault, and the trip comp seems to of gonew a bit mad, the fuel range was reading wrong and the e break kept flashing up as fault?? please help paul

i have Renault laguna II 2002 modal petrol. the problem is with the BSI or BSM, the ignition is off and car not starting. we checked and realized that, the car has developed code problem in the system. i then replace the BSI or BSM with the control board and the key system. ignition is ok now but the power is not coming on the injectors and the fuel pump. car still not starting. what could be the problem now? i need help
did the same thing the other day all clean battery terminals clean put back on insert key bam there you go back on again . also could the live lead terminals cleaned up + fuse make a difference. and one more thing when the car does start all is good then you here a click tick over drops to zero then electronic fault but it still drives . any help would be great full.

Has it giving you anymore problems? Was it a automatic transmission?

Thanx Paul. I am in South Africa and it is warm weather. I washed my car and after that the trouble started, so I can believe it is water that caused the damage.
It does sound like a water problem then, try removing the circuit box, disconnect your battery and maybe leave your bonnet open and the circuit board somewhere warm for a few hours, put it all back together and see how it goes. Failing that like o said previously diagnostics will be the only way to go
we have a megane 04 that wont pass emissions due to a fault in the electrical system, that will cost 20 000kr to repair, im gonna give this a try to see if your video can get us back on the road. None the less thx for giving me hope, if all else fails ;)

Thank you for the reply. So far my car has been diagnosed as a cam belt issue. They've taken rockacover off and the belt is off. Not sure if it's snapped or just come away.
The chaps at work haven't had time to do anymore than that at moment.
I asked if it's worth putting a new belt on it to see if it starts, but they said in their opinion it's probably damaged the valves and pistons and engine will be buggered.
I looked on Internet and can source a second hand engine from brakers yard for about £230 including delivery. Just got to make that decision if it's worth spending about £600 for repair on a vehicle that's almost 10 years old :-( it's been very reliable up until now, which is why I am tempted to get it fixed.
As you never know what you will buy with about £1,500. Something that could also go wrong within a few weeks.
Good video by the way, I too had to have circuit board cleaned up about 2 years ago due to corrosion.

0:08 if you own a megane its a familiar sight electrical fault on the dash or not,there is always something wrong with them.Had a red 03 plate for 2 weeks and had everything from suspension knocking to a bad starter.Had to fight our money back,bought an 04 scenic 1.5 dCi after,thankfully that is a bit more reliable,other than the damn window regulators
3 years on I’ve had another megane(cheap insurance, my hands were tied, 17 at the time) and it gave no trouble, I miss the thing daily, I completely forgot about this comment and just found it now looking at getting another megane on the cheap because of this issue😂 250 quid for a diesel estate with a fresh test, sounds good to me!

great video thanks,im having a battery drain problem so i stripped out all fuse box and ecu cleaned up with pcb cleaner and used white grease etc to reassemble. checking all wires,i have to check relays as well so crossed fingers .. thanks again.

Great video, what are all the fuses? I'm looking for the window fuse (3 door megane). Passenger window won't go down after I connected a regulator wrong on the drivers window. Interior fuses are not blown, thought it might be in the engine bay fuse box?

Hi Paul. I was driving along and next moment felt a shudder and Renault Scenic showed "Electrical fault" and stopped right there. Then all the error messages appeared , handbrake could not unlock, not even registering that the keycard has been removed. Disconnected the battery to "reset". No change. What could this be? Could it be a broken cambelt and the electronics trying to protec the car?

Awesome video Paul!! Maybe you can help me. Have a Renault Megane II CC. Could not start it (immobilizer kicks in). Towed it to the shop and they changed the plate that is connected to the - (negative) terminal of the battery due to corrosion. No it starts and everything works but the Service warning light flashes a couple of seconds and then gets continuously lit with the message: Steering check. The shop could not reset the error message and want me to book a new appointment. Read that it might be the "Steering wheel angle sensor" that needs to be reprogrammed. What do you think it might be? Appreciate if you could help me out, Thanks in advance!

Hello guys, for all they have the airbag warning light problem, I had this problem before, I went to Renault service center, they told me the problem is the spiral cable is broken ( it is the part connects the steering wheel airbag with the system, which the arms of the window wipers and head lights are connected to) and the diagnosis was correct. I changed this part ( it costs about 300 US Dollars) and now there is no warning light.
If your steering wheel is making a clicking noise when you steer left or right ( like the computer mouse clicks) so, you have the same problem of the broken spiral cable..

Is the Renault Megane the same as Renault Scenic? I have a 2002 Scenic. The remote control doesn't lock nor unlock. The only lights that work are the headlights, no radio. And of course, no spark. Any advice that can help me out? Thank you from across the miles.

Great video! Just a bit of advice... I have megane and the heater fan won't work in all 4 speeds anymore which I took to garage but seem to think it would be expensive job so I didn't bother. Also for some reason my drivers side back indicator keeps on blowing and replaced 3 bulbs in the last 2-3 months. Could any of the fuses you cleaned up here be related to the fan and back indicator? Could this be a potential fix to those issues? Many thanks
The fan is likely to have corroded pins on connector to termo resistor in blower. it's hard to find the termo resistor and somewhat even tougher to get it out for cleaning, so let it all sit if possible, just unplug the connector and clean both male and female contacts.

As I've said to many of the other posts, this solution will cure most electrical faults on the megane (or any other renault of similar age) it is worth trying as it certainly won't make matters any worse. The only time I experienced the dash completely cut out for myself was when the battery died. However if you are certain your battery is ok try this method and inspect all of your fuses to make sure one hasn't blown.
Hi My Megane Estate 105dci 2008 went crazy yesterday, firstly the Check airbag light came up, then followed by the steering fault, then braking fault, at the same time all the doors started clicking, opening and closing and the lights started going on and off along with the hazard lights, I turned around and went to my garage, who suggested buying a new battery, but as they said this might not be the answer, (as it's possibly an electric fault/ I then tried the car again and all was fine, so drove it away, it was fine today. I started searching for an answer to the problem and came across your video, as it was aslo raining the night before, I'm wondering if this is the same problem and if doing this will solve it?

I have a Megane 3 1.5 Dci, automatic gearbox. Sometimes I get the error Check auto gearbox, if this happens while driving the D indicator for Drive starts flashing, and it won't accelerate. After I turn the engine off, the same error is displayed and it won't start. The gear is not displayed anymore and it's locked in P.
After a few minutes the car starts and dirves like nothing happened.
Could this issue be related also to this electric corrosion?
I'm not sure but I think it tends to happen more often after I wash the car.

No corrosion on my side (Scenic 2 PH2, 2007), USM module looks perfect clean like brand new, I've swapped with other one same model, but problem the same. Engine won't start, just engine fan spinning. ANY IDEAS? :)

The garage has checked the auto more than 10 times, they have been able to "clean" the message but the message keeps on appearing again and again. Have you ever seen this problem? How to solve it?

Hi sorry I'm not sure if this will work for you unless the dashboard actually displays "electronic fault" to be honest this sounds more like a battery or overheating issue
Thanks for your help. I followed the indications shown in the manual in case of electric fault. Push the start 5 times very fast... I did it a few times and finally worked. Left it like that like 3 hours ... retried to start it then and got all lights and indicators flashing ... .. car didnt start but I managed to lock the doors properly with the key ... as no beep or lights were shown when locking the doors .. I would say it must be the battery as you said. .. will check that on Monday and let u know :) Thanks again
Have you tried following the steps in the video yet? The fact that the car actually started means it probably isn't a battery issue. Sounds like a random electric fault, our megane used to lock and unlock while driving until I cleaned out the electrics, it's been fine ever since

Hi sorry to hear that, my only advice would be to try it again, have a good look underneath the chips on the circuit board to see of there is any corrosion and if there is clean it out with wd40 and a piece of paper. also check the fuse for the windows, double check all the earth connectors are securely fastened from when it was taken apart to try the first time, if it still fails to start it may be worth letting a garage have a look at it, this works 9 times out of 10 but renault electrics are notoriously bad and there could be another problem that this won't fix
Water got into the looms in the passenger side of my renault megane convertible cabriolet. I dried all these off and there was some corrosion and a few of the wires seem to be disconnected! Is there any wiring diagram I can look at so I have an idea where the wires connect in the loom again?

Be VERY careful with the roof. My friends had a nightmare with his. It wont open anymore but luckily it was closed when it broke.

Hi Paul! My 2001 rxe 16 vaive hatchback takes 20 to 40 start attempts over about one hour before it finally starts as if nothing was wrong, varoom very smooth once it starts. After a long trip inland it will start every day for a week or so - I live near the sea, do you think it could be the salty air? Hi, I don't this model of car suffers the same electronic problems, however I would suggest getting some auto diagnostics done at a garage, persistent non starts could be a symptom of a wide variety of things, sensors, inadequate fuel pressure, blockages, low compression...
my 53 scenic diesel headlight bulb went so i fitted new one but then i tried starting it up and it just wasnt starting it said battery low but was told its a new one, it does look new, it eventually started but now says parking break fault, and the trip comp seems to of gonew a bit mad, the fuel range was reading wrong and the e break kept flashing up as fault?? please help paul

Grand Scenic 2005, boot is opening when brake is pushed and rear window wiper is activating as well. sometime problems with some lites on aft as well. could be the same problem you explained?
This sounds like your ECU has gone haywire! It could be a water ingress problem like in the video but I would suspect something more

This could be an indicator that your injectors could be on the way out if get the ECU checked

i have Renault laguna II 2002 modal petrol. the problem is with the BSI or BSM, the ignition is off and car not starting. we checked and realized that, the car has developed code problem in the system. i then replace the BSI or BSM with the control board and the key system. ignition is ok now but the power is not coming on the injectors and the fuel pump. car still not starting. what could be the problem now? i need help
did the same thing the other day all clean battery terminals clean put back on insert key bam there you go back on again .
also could the live lead terminals cleaned up + fuse make a difference.
and one more thing when the car does start all is good then you here a click tick over drops to zero then electronic fault but it still drives .
