- A choke in a carbureted internal combustion engine (be it a 2-stroke or 4-stroke engine) is a “Valve” present in the carburetor, normally the valve is a butterfly type which on pulling can block (choke) the fresh air supply to the carburetor. The choke can be pulled directly if it is placed right on the carburetor and can be pulled via cable if the pull plug is featured elsewhere on the two wheeler.

The choke is normally used when the engine is failed to crank after couple of tries, the failure could be caused by ‘n’ number of reasons. It is also recommended by many manufacturers that one should use the choke to start the bike/scooter when it is getting started for the first time in a day (normally in morning time). In a nutshell the choke comes handy when the engine gives you starting trouble, especially when it is at a cold state.

Hi, I am using Honda Aviator. 2012 Model.
Problem is the Scooter never start without giving Choke.
When in the evening, after having all work. I park scooter & next day again I have to give choke.
And this is not only in winter, this is in all season. I am staying in Mumbai.
But once I give choke, then whole day I dont have to give again.
But next day the same old story. And this is I am doing since last many years.
I also serviced my scooter 3 times in a year. Rest everything is good. Not getting much mileage.
Only scooter starts with choke.
Can you suggest or guide?

Same problem happens with my yamaha rayzr, every morning I have to choke to start the scooty.
@@chandanmitra1199 Hi, I have changed the Spark Plug. Put NGK iridium Spark Plug & also I put the Shell 10W-30 engine Oil. Since last 8 to 9 months my Honda Aviator is giving me excellent super silent performance. Increased mileage, smooth start, no vibration at starting & running. No choke pulling.
For your Yamaha RayZR 125 Fi you can fit CR6HIS NGK Iridium Spark Plug. And check the oil as per your location where you are staying. I am from Mumbai, so minimum 20 degree & max 40 degree temperature for full year.
According to your location you can select engine oil.

Sir plz reply dedena meri Apache 200 4v hai usko hamesha choke Lena padhta hai begair choke ke chalu hi nhi hota hai aap 100 baar hi kyu nhi self lelo me gadi chalake laya agar 2-3 km chalaya to aadhe ghante baad fir choke Lena padhta hai agar 10-15 km chalae to 1-1.5 ghanta ke andar self se chalu ho jaega uske baad choke lena padhta mujhe din 3-4 baar choke lena padhta me isse bohot irritate ho chuka aisa nhi hai ke thandi hai isliye garmi me bhi aisa ho rha tha.
