Love to see your ecstatic faces as you listen to this gorgeous music! I've been wanting you to hear it since you've been back from Spain- thought the pick-me-up would do you good. I love singing along with Mark and David, my spirit rises to the heavens!
I was surprised to hear that you've heard "Last Train Home," I don't remember seeing a reaction to it. Funny, this was originally planned as a marathon with those two songs! LTH is also one of my very favorites! I believe the instrument whose sound you mentioned early in the reaction is the pan pipes.
Regarding the 6/8 time signature, next time you listen, once the main theme kicks in, start following the bass and count 1-2-3-4-5-6, 1-2-3-4-5-6. It gets easier with practice!
Anyway, so happy you've got another song of Pat's for your playlist- it's a great one for driving! 🎵❤️🎵Debbie

Thank you again Debbie! ❤️ Umm okay I was wrong about LTH, just looked it up and you were right - we haven’t done it! I guess I’ve heard it mentioned so much in the comments. Thanks for the tip on time signatures!!

As Pat Metheny himself refers to Long Train Home, for this former Floridian it's known as "The Publix Song."
Publix came out with a holiday commercial years ago using LTH as the music. I am no longer in that market, but I wouldn't be surprised if it still airs every year. It's classic.

The first time I've heard Pat was when I was working in the basement of a famous Chicago Restaurant in the middle of Downtown baking Pizzas all by myself and suddenly this song called "Are You Going With Me" came in the Radio and I was ecstatic because it went into my head like a sound I've never heard and it changed my life and my musical taste (it was the Era of Disco & R&B back in 1983-84) and every time I hear it, it sounded brand new. That piece was part of an album titled "Off Ramp" with a portrait in the front of a short highway in the dark and a Road sign that showed a "Left Turn" on it onthe portrait. When I need to 'center' myself back into Real Music, I always go back to Pat Metheny. Please, if you can, check that album up and do a reaction to any of the songs, specially to "Are you going with me. Thanks guys!! BTW, I think you have the best reaction Chanel in All of TH-cam!!

Thanks for reminding me. I remember so well the triple tornado that nearly destroyed Wichita Falls. Texas on April 10, 1979 (F4) and somehow "As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls" was a mesmerizing eulogy to all the life lost that day. They released the album Sept. 1980. It took a guitarist friend from WFalls nearly a decade to hear it's beauty because he lost familiy that. I am sure listening helped him.

I'm dipping into this again, for the uhhhh, fifth time maybe. I've watched this more than a few times. It's odd to me, that Pats music often makes me cry. It's sort of crazy. I think it just overwhelms me that, men, who are capable of such cruelty, can also be capable of such beauty, and Pats music is certainly beautiful. The only thing about this video that surprises me is, that Nic doesn't already own the entire Pat Metheny collection, solo and group.

I really love the cleverness of how the piano and guitar played in quick syncopation (off-beats) with the bass hitting the on-beats - in such a smooth manner. In fact the band puts in a lot of tricky rhythms so smoothly you can't tell how complex it is unless you listen closely with at least a little musically trained ears.

Paul Wertico is a master. Met him at an impromptu concert in the Rancho La Puerta Spa, in Baja, Mexico. Just him and a small set of drums, plus pots and pans he "borrowed" from the kitchen, for an audience of maybe 20 or 25 people. He also did a couple of songs with his wife on acoustic piano. He did a couple of improvs with my nephew (owner of the set of drums) on percussions. After the set, I met him, had a little chat and got his autograph on a couple of PMG vynils and concert video Cd. Awesome, down-to-earth man.

On another topic - R.I.P. Jeff Beck. Given how well he was still playing at 78 - a total shock. There were still more facets of his playing I was going to include in marathons. He used to call John McLaughlin "The Greatest". Today McLaughlin returned the sentiment. After McLaughlin had Beck play on an album, he started experimenting with the whammy bar himself.

Hi guys! So glad you've discovered Pat Metheny and all his wonderful, talented friends. I discovered Pat at one of Joni Mitchell's concerts in L.A. I've got a suggestion that NO ONE will give you. But hardly anybody knows about the album which is an intrinsic part of the wonderful movie Francis Ford Coppola made right after Apocalypse Now. The album and movie is "One From The Heart." Tom Waits wrote the music and lyrics, and Crystal Gayle is half of the talent. It is a perfect album, and follows the story line of the movie. If you do it at all, I would go song by song until you get to the last beautiful notes. And the thing you might like best, it's a love story. It is a perfect album. #nicknlexrequest

You guys are always great. This is another special track from them - I particularly love the “tension” between the apparent pace of the music and the very consistent 6/8 rhythm clearly articulated throughout- primarily by the bass. FYI - there is an excellent live video version of this entire album. (As an aside - my closest friend and music partner - in about 1977 - on two consecutive nights - saw the Pat Metheny Group and Larry Carlton at the Bottom Line n NYC. Wow.). Stay well and happy.

Some of my other top PMG songs are It's For You, Daulton Lee, The Search, Au Lait, and countless others. BTW the best live version of Minuano that I've seen and heard is a video, Just search youtube for "metheny live japan 92". There are a total of 3 songs, all great. Also, at the same time, I discovered another new artist when I heard a new release from Jean Luc Ponty that I loved. Check out the album “Travels” for the live versions of many early “Group” recordings. Travels is simply an amazing album. If you were lucky enough to see a live concert back then, this was what it was like - but three hours worth!!! I’ve gotten to see Pat in his many forms, over three dozen times (most people think I’m insane when I admit that). It never gets old. Travels sounds as fresh to me now, as it did in 1979!

By the way, on the song I was suggesting "Are you going with me", Pat plays a guitar that he custom built for this precise song and the only one of its "kind" in the world. You might be thinking you're hearing a synthesizer being played but in reality it is Pat's Custom built guitar that he invented exclusively for this melody. Check it out!

That's not really correct. It's a Roland GR-300 guitar, an instrument built by Ibanez so Roland could add their cutting edge (at the time) guitar synth pickup electronics.
