I live in the countryside of Brazil and I love Rory Gallagher. 99.99% of the people around me don't even know who Rory is. But I keep listening to your records. This is proof that music has no barriers. Sorry, I'm not fluent in English.
Hey Jamal great to see RORY back on the channel , Rory used to always play gigs in Belfast ...which was a war torn city , but a ceasefire would be announced by both sides to allow music lovers to go to his show , Rory was and is... the man of the people , long live the music of RORY GALLAGHER , and thanks to you Jamal for shinning some love on one Ireland's most beautiful souls .!!!🇨🇮🇨🇮👍
Rory was a cult figure among other guitarists, who were awestruck by the virtuosity and sheer ferocity of his playing. He was even asked by The Rolling Stones to replace Mick Taylor and Brian May has said, he got “his sound” from Rory. Rory did not sell himself and did not release singles. He just extensively toured, almost 365 days a year. He didn’t care about fortune and fame and that is what makes him the humble and beautiful person he was… RIP Rory, we love you. Check out “Bad Penny” live at Montreux 1985.
This gal was there in the audience when I watched Rory live every chance I got. He's my number one hero. He would play encore after encore until they pulled the plug on him. He just loved playing live.
So happy to see Rory reaching so many people, the man was a phenom. Theres a Rory Gallagher festival in his home town of Ballyshannon, Ireland every year and its a blast!
My friends and I caught a Rory Gallagher gig in the early 70s and he automatically became a favorite. I can't count how many times I saw him after that. He never disappointed.
My Dad got me to listen to Rory when i was 17 and im so pleased he got me to listen as he is such a talented musician, especially if you have a taste for the Blues. Glad you got to listen to this legend
👍This was his opening tune when I saw him in '73. Time keeps on ticking... Going through a box of old ticket stubs not long ago. My first rock concert: May 19, 1973 East Tennessee State University (lol yeah, I'm old, but still above the dirt...) Rory Gallagher - ZZ Top 4 bucks It was about two months before Tres Hombres came out. (Dusty Hill's 24th birthday, I came to find out on his passing) It was Festival Seating and I managed to get about 15 feet from mic center. Rory Gallagher was pure fire right out of the gate, and his band was phenomenal. (particularly Lou Martin on his electric piano) Rory was amazing to see play and I think that he had as much fun as anyone. Then, BG and the boys came out. Back when they were the most badass blues rock band that ever was. Straw hats, jeans, no beards (but Frank. lol), and BG in a white tshirt w/ pack of Marlboros rolled up in the sleeve(lol). Needless to say, Rory and Billy made a big impression on a 16 yr old. Blues rock, slide guitar nut ever since. RIP Rory, Rod, Lou, & Dusty. Thank You! Keep Rockin' Billy, Frank, & Gerry
I was at this concert, it was in Rory’s hometown of Cork. I met him in a pub about an hour before the concert. He was a really nice down to earth guy. The concert was brilliant and was recorded for Irish TV.
I love this guy so much, undubtedly the greatest guitarist I have ever seen live and on album he was just superb. He largely went unnoticed as he refused to play the establishment game, wasn't interested in releasing singles and when big bands came calling for his services such as the Rolling Stones and Deep Purple, he turned them down and just wanted to give his own music to his fans. A true man of the people who lived for his art and his guitar playing will never be surpassed. From the same gig as this have a look at 'Out on the Western Plain' and 'Want Ad' Blues' its a change of tempo with acoustic and resonator guitars but it showcases the simple fact that this guy is the absolute master. Try out 'Just the Smile' as well, simply sublime.
Fantastic video, Jamel. Wow. Thanks for sharing. I have a Rory CD buried somewhere in the stack. Haven't listened to it in over a decade. Thanks for the reminder. Never seen his live performance.
God bless you Jamal thank you for shining a light on Rory As the saying goes anyone who knows knows. Rory was one of the greatest and he played a mean mandolin too as well as acoustic guitar Fantastic
Off stage Rory was a softly spoken , humble man with Irish charm, but on stage he always gave it 110% . I saw him many times in the 70's and 80's and I can defiantly say he was one of the greatest guitarist ever ! not only electric but also acoustic and mandolin. ' Out on the western plain ' was a standard at most shows. He was the main reason I wanted to play guitar , and I will never forget though's fantastic shows. Brian May is quoted as saying that he spoke to Rory after seeing him at a show and he asked what equipment he was using . Rory was only to happy to talk to a young budding player , and told Brian he was using a Vox AC30 and a Rangemaster Treble Booster. The rest is history ! Queen could have sounded very different , if it had not been for that night. !!!!
I'm so Happy Jamel that you are loving Rory Gallagher. I had requested you react to him ages ago and I knew you would like. So talented and we are so proud of him in Ireland 🇮🇪. Sláinte.
Rush have ways been my favourite band and Alex Lifeson is my favourite guitarist but right there in joint second place are those two Irish legends. Gone far too soon.
Thank you, Jamel, for understanding and expressing that Rory needs to be shown the love he deserves. Sometimes being a good human means that it's more than just views and likes. There are many more popular guitarists that get a lot of attention, who IMHO, don't come close to Rory. His masterful diversity of playing, styles, songwriting, instruments and unique vocals, truly set him apart from the rest. Bottom line is that he did not allow the record companies to dictate what he put out, would not compromise his musical vision, and he did not want to release singles. If he played the game, he would have been as well-known as the rest. But truth is, he was/is very well-known and admired among other musicians, has a very loyal worldwide fan base which continues to grow - and you are a part of that growth, Jamel. What you've seen is just the tip of the iceberg as to what he could do. Perhaps check out some of his acoustic prowess... BTW, stage invasions were not uncommon at Rory's shows - check out Belfast '84.
Just got back from church and saw this.. The spirit of Rory will send Irish blessings to you and the family. (Rory was the kind to go to church no matter where he was in the world and he called his mother...same reason..)
I think, like most comments suggest, that you would very much appreciate his older stuff from the early 70s. The 74 Irish tour was an outstanding culmination of his burst of creativity at the start of his career. A Million Miles Away is a standout. Enough cannot be said about his band Taste’s final performance at the Isle of Wight festival - Sugar Momma will FLOOR you
Thank you Jamal for featuring Rory Gallagher. I've known about him since the 70s but it's only since you have been reacting to his music that I have realised what a great guitarist and performer he was. By the way, as you seem to like this genre of music so much, might I recommend to you Peter Green, from the earlier incarnation of Fleetwood Mac? Try "Black Magic Woman", "Man of the World", "The Green Manalishi (With the Two Pronged Crown)", "Need Your Love So Bad" or "Oh Well (Parts 1 & 2).
....yes Gerry was great, he wrote a book ! if Jamel does the whole catalogue it could take months , I'm glad to see Rory twice in the mid 70s. keep on rockin'
Jamel, we appreciate that you show so much respect to Rory, he deserves it, glad I saw him twice live in the mid 70s, thank you we love your channel, greetings to all Rory fans.
@@spinynormanbest6410 Yes, the record company wanted to release it as a single.... but they wanted to cut out the intro and the solo to make it 'radio friendly'! Rory quite rightly refused.
@J Men that’s your valid opinion…however I beg to disagree…he was great and the live albums are especially a testament to this…the Live in Europe ‘72 and the Irish Tour ‘74 Lp’s are two of the finest live collections to come out of that era. Incendiary performances imho
@J Men But the fact that you pick Steve Vai as an example of a great guitarist just shows that you have different idea of the definition what makes a great guitarist. Because IMO Steve Vai just makes songs to present his talents and nothing more. You can argue that he makes great compositions but I wouldn't call them great songs (they don't even have vocals). It's more like in the same vein as classical music. I have never understood the appeal of guitarist that just make solo albums without vocals. It's more like a talent show. For me guys like Rory, Hendrix, Blackmore and SRV are truly great guitarists, because they always try to make a great song and they represent themselves as a band even when the guitarists name is on the front cover. You can always practice your whole life trying to be the most technical guitar player, but in the end what really counts is the ability to make great songs and to put together a great band. (and this is all just my opinion of course)
Someone else mentioned it, but Rory's performance of Bullfrog Blues is the craziest I've ever seem. Full stage invasion by the fans, Rory keeps playing, and ends up climbing his amps to keep playing. It's the final sing in the set in this video. th-cam.com/video/ftS2K9G2Yjw/w-d-xo.html
Awesome song which I know his « live in Europe »released in 1972. Stunning solo with unique sound typical from his 61 Stratocaster. He just came on stage set the fire and leaved. That’s Rory😍😍😍😍
All guitarists, maybe? I can't tell you how much I appreciate your bringing him to a wider audience perhaps, but I'm gonna have to cauterize my tear ducts. My brother from another mother, my god from another puddle of mud, my Yahweh from another lump of clay, Rory's prob'ly the most beautiful soul it's ever been my extreme good fortune to witness and hear. Cheers, and tyvm, Jamel. PEACE, always. Rest in Power, Brother Rory.
I saw both Fleetwood Mac and Taste in 1968. as much as I respect Peter Greene, Gallagher has the incredible showmanship and energy that may lack in Greene's playing
I only check in every few weeks, I'm afraid! But I'm so glad you discovered Rory Gallagher! :) If you haven't already, check out Daughter of the Everglades, Out on the Western Plain, Big Guns, and of course the live Bullfrog Blues! Happiness ensues... ;D
Man , I love the open mindedness with which you discover and get into the music and different artists. Never would have guessed you’d be hooked on Rory Gallagher.
So thrilled u featuring Rory. He has SO MUCH material, it will take time to cover even a few layers of it. PLEASE play "Do You Read Me" in his Rock Goes to College 1979 series. Its unbelievable rocking blues, just doesn't get better! Also "Take What I Want" at Ruisrock 1975 in Finland. It cuts off in middle of performance but its worth watching. Thanks Jamel!

Rory cut his pro teeth in an Irish Showband, which meant 4 hours on stage and keeping a crowd entertained the whole time with any tune in the Top 100; you see those roots in his performances and versatility. The end product is magical.
That Rocked!! 🔥🔥🔥 Rush toured with him early in their career when they were an opening band and they had nothing but nice things to say about him. I remember listening to Rory back in the 70's. You’d be happy to know Rory was a good human. Apparently just a really nice, humble person. Watch any doc and legends from rush and queen and others talk about how nice he was. And ya, most underrated guitar player ever.
Thank Jamel for this one, Rory is always on top with the greatests, another real deep emotional underrated one from Rory it is "easy come, easy go" a must to hear appreciating the beautiful lyrics.
An absolutely brilliant guitarist, sadly taken from us much too soon. Rory was the epitome of that generation of musicians who just went out and played. Like others here, I saw him several times in the 70s. Jamal, the reason for the all/mostly male audience is I suspect that they're all frustrated air guitarists like me!
Dat concert is from The Cork Opera House in Ireland Rory Gallagher s home town I was at that gig it was incredible the sound was unbelievable and Rory was on fire 🔥 thank you for keeping Rory s music alive respect from Ireland
Rory's outros were....... unpredictable 😂, im not surprised he got disillusioned with the over production of "live" music in latter years. Rory was a Beast of the live rock scene, a trailblazer in Ireland and beyond. Props to his longtime loyal friend and bass player Gerry McEvoy who i believe will feature with Joe Bonamassa in Cork Ireland 2025 Joe "does" Rory live. I cant wait pg 🙏
Love me some Rory, a good friend is singer and guitarist in a band that plays Rory covers that was my introduction. You could do worse than checking out a blues guitarist from South Africa called Dan Patlansky. Saw him live a few nights ago and may be the best guitarist I've seen in the flesh, real SRV vibes.

You’d be happy to know Rory was a good human. Apparently just a really nice, humble person. Watch any doc and legends from rush and queen and others talk about how nice he was. And ya, most underrated guitar player ever.
From my hometown Ballyshannon
Way to go Jamal, Rory is great.
Thank Jamel for this one, Rory is always on top with the greatests, another real deep emotional underrated one from Rory it is "easy come, easy go" a must to hear appreciating the beautiful lyrics.
Beautiful song!
Rory entre los 5 más grandes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So glad you help new fans of his get an intro. He was amazing. Slash is a big fan of his. That should say something
..yes ! Brian May and others also, I'm glad saw Rory twice in the mid 70s, never forget it ! keep on rockin...
Love Rory so much but he was the master of the never ending ending.
His gigs were feats of physical endurance for the audience. I miss him.
Ireland puts up bronze statues of their rock stars! 🤘🏼👍🏼
RG played every concert like it was his last....
look at rorys live bullfrog blues live in france 1980.
