      The early days of The Mandalorian gave me hope that Dave Filoni would be the chosen one who pulled Star Wars out of the swamp that the sequels stick us in, but nope. The writing, messaging, and shear lameness of Disney+ Star Wars is disappointing on so many levels. Even light saber battles in Ashoka, which were a hallmark of earlier Star Wars, are wooden slow motion imitations of the action in the prequels. As a lifelong fan it’s just sad to think of what we have now.

But this whole fan base is shattered into too many fragments to even count at this point. well, one thing did happen in the show, that is Sabine got her Jedi powers.
    The problem is she didn't earn it at all. She made all the bad decisions she could along the way, none of that had any repercussion, every time she even hinted some regret, someone came to say she did nothing wrong, and she is basically the same at the end of season, except that she can now wield the force.
    back in the day, writers new that giving someone new powers in a show was a pay off not just for some training, but a reward for the character development. Some random scenes of Sabine trying to move things with the force, and some Tai Chi coreographies that were supposed to pass as training do not count as good set up for her gaining this ability, even if she was established as force sensitive character before.

    • @torq21
      @torq21 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      One thing I don't hear mention regarding Sabine and the force, (I haven't watched the show so it might be in there) is the there any discussion of the razors edge between the light and dark side if the force? Is there any tension about Sabines emotions driving her to the dark side?

    • @marychocolatefairy
      @marychocolatefairy ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@torq21 I don't think so. I could be wrong, but I don't recall that being an issue. You see, Sabine is one of those perfect girlbosses who does no wrong; and further they seem to be trying to set her up as the next Luke- she said some of Luke's lines in the show. Also, any tension was not over the dark side but over if she could use the Force at all. Ahsoka is training her as a Jedi, but Sabine keeps saying she doesn't see the point since she's not Force sensitive. In the last episode she uses the Force. It was rather controversial, as she didn't need to use the Force in the first place and also because it looks like now everyone can use the Force, lol.

      as a rebels fan i was left confused. Sabine and Ahsoka's relationship and apparent hard work Sabine put in happens offscreen in tiny bits of throw away dialogue that never gets expanded on. It isnt satisfying seeing them repair their bond when we have never seen them have one before in the first place, Sabine didnt trust Fulcrum in rebels season 1 and in season 2 she never really got along with her. Sabine didnt like that Ezra and Kannan where going on sperate missions because of Ahsoka, creating a rift in the ghost crew. Sabine having the force is also a load of rubbish as it makes no sense why no one picked up on it before hand and just pushes the message that to be relevant in star wars and fight the dark side, you need to be a rare jedi. Sabine being a normal Mandalorian, fighting those with powers she does not posses would have been a greater testament to her skill and bravery and is far more inspirational than "if you want it bad enough, anyone can be a jedi".

Why didnt Vader Force-lift Luke up to the bridge when he jumped in Cloud-City? Why didnt Vader Force-Push Luke down the Carbonate Freezing-pit? Why didnt Vader Force-push the empereor down the Deathstar Core? And i can go on and on.

    Fans explaining about the Mortis gods and then sticking Lucas' name as if it's a seal of approval speaks of the multiple afflictions Star Wars has. That people still need to seek daddy Lucas' approval despite him sold the company. That people should be saddled with homework on looking up lore in previous materials *despite* marketing the show as self-contained. When this fails, you have legions of fans that derive pleasure in showing off their knowledge or interpretations but also conveniently doing the work the writers ought to have done in the first place. Recursion on past events is now rewarding instead of inspiring new ideas for the future.

    As usual, i’m with you, Chris. If i may, i know very well what you’re talking about, but for the audience, the Production Management triangle is essentially Quality-Speed-Price. Like you were saying, if you want it good, it won’t be cheap. If you want it fast, it’ll be expensive. If you want it good, but cheap, production will be slow. I could talk about this all day!

    Andor's director for the Aldani Heist arc was a TV pro, there where a lot of UK TV people involved. Andor teaches lessons that Disney/Lucasfilm need to learn for live action. Also, it shows the flaws are Filloni as much as Disney Star Wars.

    THIS IS "WESTWORLD".
    Disney "Star Wars" has become "Westworld".
    But no, I don't mean it's a TV show set in an environment where androids perform vignettes for a human audience....
    I mean that IT IS SUCH AN ENVIRONMENT.
    The characters in Ahsoka perform duels, chases, space travel and all the vignettes we've come to expect from Star Wars. They are costumed and equipped with great care. LIKE THE WESTWORLD ANDROIDS. And I mean the androids from the original movie, because the "Westworld" TV show gave its androids more depth than this!
    "Ahsoka"'s characters lack realistic motives, they don't grow, they don't always act logically. They seem to forget past events and decisions. The longer we watch them, the less relatable they become. LIKE THE WESTWORLD ANDROIDS.
    The fictional Westworld audience would watch each vignette then move on to the next one without looking for anything deep. They KNEW it was only robots.
    "Ahsoka" is written to meet similar expectations.

    The one good thing that has come from the show "Dave Filoni's Body Pillow" is that I'm finally reading Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy. Man, good books. Funny how the Thrawn in the "Legends" book is not an incompetent, fat ass Elon Musk stand-in, where defeat equals victory.
    As for Disney Star Wars, I consider it poorly written fan fiction, written by purple-haired Gen Zers who are confused about their gender. I stopped after The Rise of Skywalker.
    At the end of the day, Disney is and always has been a company that succeeds at Princess stories. They're trying to convert Star Wars into Cinderella (and convert Cinderella into Cinderwhatever.

    I watched TCW and Rebels, and I didn't think the show was good. Too slow, going nowhere. And the Mortis reference at the end, even though it called back to Clone Wars, it was still ripping off Argonath which was created in the 50s (cf LOTR trilogy by JRR Tolkien).
    When this show was announced back in Dec 2020, I was quite excited, but having seen Boba Fett, Obi-Wan and Mando S3, I was already desillusoned, so I wasn't expecting much. At least I got what I expected, so that's good isn't it? 😉

    Roughed-out approximate Idea of How Ahsoka should have gone;
    Morgan heads off to get Thrawn, meanwhile everyone starts desperately convincing the council for military support, scrabble a force together, predicting they'll return to the same world they launched from.
    oops, so quick scramble to Dathomir, and a Desperate battle vs Thrawn's Nati-reconditioned Chimaera, NR forces get thrashed and run off. Ezra is the one later revealed who slipped some error-coding into the main gunnery computers to prevent a total massacre of the NR forces.
    Set up for season 2 is Thrawn's on the march, and started settling his nets on former Imperial systems with high retained loyalty, as predicted by his knowledge of many star systems during the war era.

    Without fauvreau to ground filonii’s zany ideas, Star Wars drives off a cliff into cartoonland. The original Star Wars was great because despite having a fantastical world it was deeply grounded. It was smart, gritty, and entirely believable. It was magical how believable it was.
    This is none of that. The legacy of the original Star Wars movies, the legacy that George Lucas himself floundered upon, is entirely lost.
    The best thing they can do is stop and make some very hard choices, but the only choices Disney has been making lately is only the the shallowest and most transparent one of: MORE CASH.
    Star Wars CAN continue in the same vein as the original, as surely as ESB continued from TSW, but the degree of difficulty is too much for those currently in leadership at the company.
    The end.

    Well gen z also grew up with avatar the air bender and also had access to dvds and later streaming so they had access to more shows new and old and many did watch but even the shows coming out then or right around then the oldest of gen z would have seen or many would have like avatar the airbender which is super rich and really deep story arcs and cool characters and world and Batman the animated series one of the first serial storytelling animated series I think and also tons of cool style and storytelling but there were live action shows that were cool also. It’s really been in maybe just the last five ten years that stuff got worse or the good to bad ratio became even more extreme. There were terrible shows from every era seventies eighties whenever it’s just the good are the ones remembered so people think there weren’t bad ones but there always is it’s just the ratio got a lot worse recently. But that is pretty recent the 2000’s had great shows still as did the nineties.
    The nineties and 2000’s had great live action too firefly, Farscape, Psych, tons of others.
    There were terrible shows from every era I think the difference is towards the end of the twenty tens up to now bad stuff is propped up. Back in the day mostly of something was bad it got a season or half a season or no sequel and that was it mostly now it’s terrible but they keep pumping it out numbers can drop they keep pumping it out all the fans can hate it but will also hate watch it and even if they didn’t hate watch it they’d keep pumping it out. Flop after flop of woke films but they keep making them, the fire thousands lose a ton of value on their stock price, fail the board of the company, have massive fail in park attendance, start conflict with much of their most loyal support base that kept them afloat through thick and thin. It just doesn’t matter they’ll keep destroying it. Really leveled at Disney heavily right now. That’s right annoy Florida the locals of which are the ones who kept the pair profitable during all the times no one else would travel all that way like during the gas crises, then during 911, and on other occasions when Floridians supported the parks that are extremely expensive but act like Florida owes you when much of your money there comes from loyal Floridians who have tons of other options for parks and entertainment as they live in a resort and entertainment Mecca with some of the biggest theme parks and attractions on the planet.

    None of that was used for Ahsoka. It would have made his character so much more meaningful.
    And even in Heir to the Empire, Thrawn was never about revenge or a vendetta. He was clinically analysing the situation and made decisions based on facts, not emotions. This Ahsoka-Thrawn is terrible.

    The problem is pushing politics into the shows. Wokeness inhibits writers because A) they are afraid of offending the ultra woke (which is almost inevitable), and B) they hope you'll watch out of guilt. These two inhibitors also make the shows mirror one another. Every show lately has incompetent men, overly bossy women, and a female villain that's just "misunderstood." I'm guessing the dark jedi apprentice will be that villain in this series unless they introduce one in the second season. It's safe. That's why there's no story, no clear destination, and the writers are constantly seeking to "subvert expectations" even though that's the most predictable thing they do nowadays!
