The 4 runner is a great vehicle for able body drivers. However but a poor choice for her codition. She got some poor advice or refused to listen , My late wife was paralyzed for the last 13 years of her life and we were blessed by modern mobility technology that made our lives bettter and easier on the road. I would recommend consulting an auto mobility specialist for anyone considering a handicape vehicle. I admire this youg lady on what she has accomplished. Alot of GRIT as we would say in TEXAS.
Hi there. I'm disabled and independent but all that lifting and moving your body will catch up with you when you get older. I know you don't want to think about that. If I could go back I would save up for an accessible van. Your body can only take so much. You're doing great now. God bless!
Hahaha Kathryn I get it, its a bit more of a "stretch" you said as you are stretching out of the car to get the chair you so funny!! Lol! Great job youre doin girl
congrats for the new car 🎉🎊 , I can see how much you but alot of energy when you go inside and outside the car , it will take time to you get used to it but it worth it eventually 👏🏻👏🏻 , wish you a safe drive 💕
I have the 2005 version of this car and it still runs brand new! The mileage is terrific! The 4Runner will last you a very long time! Congratulations on getting your new car!
WOW! That was a lot. I’ve always hated those steps on the side of SUVs because I felt like poor muy from being able to get close to the car the way I wanted but you just showed me a way that I could use it to my advantage. You’re actually going to make me think twice about getting a car that sits higher off the ground for my next car. Thanks for sharing.
Very nice car, but I did liked also your Jeep. I always liked Jeep and Toyota.Congrats. You are a great driver and I was sorry that I had to leave after purchase was done.
Something I used for my truck that was lifted was a strap attach to the handle. And I'd put my foot in the floorboard and bent it. Used my left hand on the strap and then my right hand in the seat. I was able to make the transfer with one motion.
Congrats on your new car!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. I also have a wheelchair I was born with level 1 Spina Bifida which effect my balance only that’s all. So i use hand controls as well in my truck since my feet are not quick enough going from gas to brakes or brakes to gas. I started youtube as well to Motivate&Inspire which is the youtube connected here on my comment lol my youtube name I mean.
Your confidence will grow and you will get much much stronger at transfers, keep up the great attitude and keep that sense of humour, i had to go check on my cat twice, because i thought he was calling me, felt such a plonker when i realised it was your cat in the background and not mine! omg i feel so stupid right now!!
Watched most of your videos and would love to see you do one on the hand controls: why you choose the one you have, what things to consider feature wise and what to do when you have to react quickly to avoid an accident?
You rock girl u crushing I love the attitude and jst u taking your challenges. I’m a t4 spinal cord injury survivor so I knw the struggle so thank you 🙏 for your motivation ❤💪🙏
Hey sister they make all kinds of low riding disability vehicles with ramp where u can roll right up and into the vehicle u can also remove the passenger seat with out dismantling ur wheelchair. I hope u look into it. It would be so much more easier for u. God bless you sister
Beautiful car 👏👏👏 looks more beautiful with you inside 😍😍 create an invention adapt something that makes it easier for you to go up and down more easily. leave the door glass open because you can hold the door for support
I think it's amazing after such a terrible tragedy that you caused, so much help has been given to you. New cars, new house, physical therapy, ect. Rest assured, a lot of that comes from you being young, thin, and beautiful. If an obese middle aged man like me had run a stop sign on an exit ramp, I probably would have been thrown in prison and had a wheel chair thrown at me by a guard. That being said, I'm happy for all the support you've gotten and I wouldn't wish what you've been through on anyone. Good luck in the future and I hope you wear sun glasses when you're driving now and in the future.
This is a very strange comment. It reads like "I'm sad about my life so I'm going to put down a person who made an honest mistake because they're getting things that I don't have". Comparison is the third of joy, there's no sense in commenting something like this
@MotownModels It's about accountability and how different people are held accountable in different ways or sometimes not at all just because of who they are or how they look. We're all human. The difference is I admit my mistakes big and small and pay for them like a man.
@@anthonyg7933 you're acting like this person committed murder or something. They made an honest mistake while driving (who hasn't) that obviously resulted in harm to herself. Why do you think this person wasn't held accountable? I feel like you're just saying "you're an attractive woman so you got off easy" and that's a BS way to look at the world.
@@MotownModels You dont think attractive women get off easier or are treated immensely different than an overweight man? I dont agree 100% with his comment but your comment is absurd if you think pretty girl privilege isn't massive. I live with pretty women and they are just handed free passes in life daily. It's astounding to watch. I knew a girl in my church who ended up in a WC from a car wreck that was her fault and for YEARS people just bent over backwards for her non stop because she was a pretty girl. Meanwhile the guy in a wheelchair who was her same age and the elderly in wheelchairs were almost invisible.....again....amazing to watch. You should not write such absurd things that are obvious. Even women serve 60% of the time a man in sentenced in identical crimes.
They have vans with a wheelchair lift that can lift you in your chair into the side door of the van, then you can wheel over to the drivers seat, some of them have swivel seats so you can climb in the drivers seat and then swivel around to the front. Or maybe with an SUV like that have a lift gate in the back with no back seats in the suv and ride the lift up and wheel into the back to the drivers seat.
I usually transfer in two steps for higher cars. I sit and balance myself by the seat controls first, then I transfer into the seat.. great job 👏 keep challenging yourself and stay chasing your dreams
I'm about to be discharged from the hospital for the first time since August. I just purchased to Ford Bronco so I'll have a vehicle once I leave. I can't wait to see how well I can get up into it lol
it's good that you can buy such things even if you have a disability, life is easy for you, unlike here in our country, it is very difficult to live when you have a disability. it's really sad😢
If there’s one automaker that could redesign their famous 4runner to make it accessible for you, it’s Toyota. You need to reach out to them and show them this video. How about it Toyota? Can you help her and other people with similar needs. I’m sure your design teams can come up with solutions.
have you looked into a Turny transfer seat made by BraunAbility? it can mount in your car and will rotate your driver's seat out and down to a transfer height and then lift you back into the driving position. I work for BraunAbility and we sell many of them a day!
This is my third year on wheelchair. My car is small one which is easier for on and off from the car. So, I would suggest for you smaller one and lower to the ground. TH-cam it and watch other wheelchair users. Congrats you will be just fine.
From one wheelchair user to another, I commend you for what you do. But I have to say my teeth were cringing watching you throwing your wheelchair down on the ground like you do/did. I get it, you like the rest of us have to do what u have to do. I'm just really OCD with my wheelchairs and I treat them like I would treat a week old baby. Nonetheless, congrats on your new truck.
I sit on the floor of under my hand control and let someone lift my legs as I pull myself up to the seat. I have a pair of portable hand-controls to use with other vehicles that aren't equipped for me.
There are easier ways to get into a car. I don't know which Person or Therapist advised you to take this car., your driving seat must be at the level of your wheelchair .I hope you won't have back and shoulder problems when you get older and when you have to do this 4 times a day in all weathers conditions to get to work. I'am in a wheelchair and driving an adapted car since 85. Good luck
How you got into the wheelchair? I just started Following your page. You are so beautiful, God bless you. From New York City 5:08 PM. Good evening, Saturday, October 7th. I want to know more about your story. How you got into a wheelchair?
exactly. same thought. For someone like me who gets in and out of my vehicle 10-15 x a day, those shoulders wont last long and the hassle will wear quickly. I went to a van w lift / ramp to save my shoulders. Had one bad transfer years ago getting in my Tacoma and realized I am just another bad one away from being down for 16 weeks post surgical and I have no one else to take care of me.....
What a fantastic positive influence you are for others. God Bless You.

Beautiful SUV!! You have such a great attitude...
Transfers looked good especially with the steps on and that's a great idea for your uncle to put that clear stuff on your door.

Is there any way you can have the wheelchair brake moved to the right wheel vs the left so you won't have to lean so far out of your vehicle?
Great job climbing in that suv you are doing wonderful 😊

They're so expensive! Breaking down the wheelchair in the regular car is more cost efficient for so many paras and quads.
Congratulations new van, i like this Toyota 🤤 good way. Please more information of hand controls ? Sorry my english. Hi from Tunja Colombia 🇨🇴
GODBLESS.
good choice by choosing the right car brand! congrats!

It's called katoya twayibu, I'm glad to see you on TH-cam and I'd like to talk with you, sir
What controls are you using?
You are inspiring everyone who watches this video 🇰🇳🙏🏾🌴😊
you can try putting the belt on before dismounting the seat. It worked fine for me ;)

Im a little jealous of how easy she got in this 4 runner. What year is this model?

Congrats on your new car-and it’s a Toyota( was your last car a Chevrolet or Toyota)
Good to see you got a 4 runner and canned the Jeep, I have the same Jeep and hate it😂, just can’t afford one of these yet
Good job! You'll get the hang of it

What airline didn't make you use one of those stupid transfer aisle chairs?
thank you ! awesome
I wish you good luck in all your life
@kathryn granger when are you going to teach your exercises and foot care?
Bravo à toi.
That's excellent 👏 👌 fair play to you😊😊😊

do you think the car was a good choice ? I think it's really high and it's a little hard for you
They make accessible vehicles, you don't have to struggle like that

Did you get keyless locks on that car?
Much love♥️♥️

Congrat for new car
Love you sister god be with you always
won't this cause lots of wear and tear on your arms in the long run?
Not wearing shoes (if its warm, you might get frostbite here) makes total sense. Shoes are for walking and if you cant walk, you dont need shoes.
I like the suv.
omg, why do you need such a big car?
Congrats!!
What a badass broad.
את יפה וחזקה
❤cute.
