    I've owned these for a couple of years now, and I agree with everything you said about the sound quality.
    I initially read a few negative reviews and I think I allowed those to influence my listening for a while.
    But as I listened more, I discovered all the sound qualities that you mention: a good sound stage, instrument separation, airiness,
    and enjoyable to listen to for long periods.
    I also found that having them face directly into the room with no toe-in is the best setup.
    At first I was using them with a Yamaha R-S202 receiver, and that was good, but then i purchased a Musical Paradise MP-301 tube amp
    and the sound improved immensely. This amp is very affordable and one of the best kept secrets of the audio industry.
    It has a very loyal following of devoted fans.
    It only produces 6.5 watts per side, but with the MA Bronze 2 at 90db, it actually works very well.
    It can get plenty loud, and has a lot of the same qualities of the speakers: a very holographic sound stage, good instrument separation,
    a nice midrange, and a very natural presentation that is easy to listen to for long periods.
    Neither the amp nor the speakers have strong base, but what there is is responsive and integrates well with the rest of the music.
    I live in an apartment, so loud bass wouldn't work for me anyway.

    I bought them after your review and I love them. In middle 2021 it's still a bargain, but not for long. For example, in my country, official Monitor Audio shop had 4 pairs of them in that time (3 months ago I think), at a lower price.
    Good work. :D Love your channel. :D

    Great review. I agree with everything you said. Right out of the box these speakers sound great. I don't think mine are fully burned it yet but I am thoroughly enjoying them and can't wait to hear what they sound like in a few months.

      Speakers need at least 100 hours of burn-in and for full open up 200-500 hours.

    I've been enjoying these along with Bronze 1, Bronze center and Bronze Fx for the last 6 months along with two XTZ 10.17 edge subwoofers in my home cinema setup. They are nothing short of brilliant. Their relative lack of low end is replaced by a full bodied, often physical bass which perfectly complement their original airy, articulate character. Amazing with movies, just as great with music. Concerts in DTS HD MA or even better Dolby Atmos with these are spectacular, as if you were there. An absolute steal at the price these are going for at the moment! Pair with decent subwoofers, and you're in audio heaven, trust me...

    I have these speakers and indeed, they need a bit warmer amp with good bass presence. They need burn-in to bring up the bass a bit and have less sibilance. They also behave better a tad close to the wall. I have them set up with a Topaz SR20 with +2DB on bass.

    I've had these for about a year now and found them good in the first couple of months.
    Over time they grew on me more and with some songs they can really make you melt in the chair.
    They really are good at positioning and separation.
    Bass I agree is not impressive, in my setup they are actually boomy by default. But I fixed that with EQ, and they are just great now.
    The mesh on the covers rattles like hell when you listen loud. Audible rattling. Either people never use the covers with these, or mine just have a defect, on both sides. I'm not talking distortion levels loud, just enough to get that good slam.
    Grab them while you still can.

    • @iiWiReviews
      @iiWiReviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, interesting to know. I haven't even tried them with the mesh on to be honest, since I never use mesh anyway. I'm glad you like them so much.

    Congrats, precise review! I also suffered with harsh treble and the lack of big bass, but positioning closer to the rear wall and some EQing solved the latter issue. The treble is still problematic with some records, but most of the music I used to listen sounds brilliant with the NAD316BEE amp on these Bronzes.

    I have the floor model Silver 8's. They sound exactly as described (open, airy, agile, large sound stage etc) but DO have wonderful deep and detailed bass. The overall timbre is real and musical... prefer these to my Martin Logans. I have them paired with an NAD amp and an inexpensive tube pre-amp. Beautiful sounding speakers. Detailed but not analytical.

    Great review, thank you. I’ve been a Monitor Audio fan for years and have been using various Bronze and Silver speakers in my study. The Silver RS1 overpowered the room with the bass and the Bronze 1 sounded a little constrained in the midrange. Nothing really objectionable, but not ideal either. Then I found a pair of Bronze 2 on a runout offer of £199 and grabbed them. Just like Goldilocks and the Three Bears, these are perfect. Not too much, nor too little. They absolutely sing with a beautiful open midrange pulling plenty of detail from the source. Bi-wiring is a well worthwhile too. The speakers on my main system are Gold GR20 3 way floorstanders with radically upgraded crossover parts and the Bronze has a strong family resemblance.

    Hi Srba.
    It's been a few months with these speakers now for me. - Still no arguments with your review - other than if you power them with something with power to spare they can do a semi-decent bass impression for their size. Admittedly I've got them crossed over at 40hz on a Parasound amplifier, and with 34" of subwoofers carefully spread and DSP'd over 3 sealed boxes) when used day to day.
    I have to say, opening them up by bringing them a good way away from the wall pointing, straight ahead, I've grown to rather like them. I, as a beginner audiophile (ifi zen dac -*Pro-ject Pre Box DS2 Analogue - Parasound power amp -speakers out to here, papssthrough to a MiniDSP controlling the bass I really rather like them now. I occasionally swap them out with a pair of Dynaudio Audience 63's - a change is as good as a rest, as the saying goes - and these are the detailed spacious airy ones, the DYnaudio are the punchy and more solid ones that still don't sacrifice much up top. Perhaps it's time to give swap them out again... Tinkering with this stiff is freat fun eh!
    Anyways - point being - after 5 ish month of ownership, your review still stands true. Good work.

    Influenced by their What Hifi award winning 5 Star commendation, I bought a pair of these a few years back to place in my not over large dining room. In my living room, through the same amp, I have a pair of Q Acoustics bookshelf speakers and the difference in sound delivery is profound. Where the QA set produces a sound that's bright and clean, with a capacity to bring the sound they produce into the room, by contrast, the MA pair are always spoiled by the way they seem to manufacture bass and therefore appear to retain the sound within themselves rather than project the sound they're producing. With the QA's, the room is filled with sound. With the MA's, you're very aware of where the sound is coming from, regardless of how they're positioned or mounted, with a sonic reproduction I've never considered at all natural. Clearly, each individual has their own preferences as to how sound should be reproduced, however, I find these speakers to be the sound equivalent of flat screen TV's that falsely create blacks and therefore make all shadow imagery appear contrived.
    Of course it could simply be my amp/speaker pairing, however, for me the MA's really aren't a good budget speaker.

  • @yyams
    @yyams 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nabbed a pair of these rather cheap lately too. Enjoyed them so far and can't argue with anything you've said - although I do have them paired with a cambridge CXA60 (a massive improvement over my ageing Rotel RA01) and am quite happy. The amplifier, especially when playing speaker set B, my old floorstanders, doesn't lean out the sound to my ears.
    I'm in the middle of building a dual subwoofer setup to accompany them though. Bass rolling off at 45-50 just doesn't work for me. Fortunately I have a subwoofer out, REW, and a miniDSP to get things sounding right!

    • @yyams
      @yyams 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@iiWiReviews I've had them maybe 4 months now and I can absolutely say they've really loosened up. i wouldn't call them warm in my current setup, but certainly not thin!
      I suspect they might even keep loosening up for you:)

    • @yyams
      @yyams 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd call them "neutral" now I think, on the warm/thin spectrum. Perfect for me!
      I hope you enjoy them. If there's one thing I've learned in my short journey (same setup for aprox 15 years(!) before finally getting into it properly maybe 3 years ago).... It's that different is often as good as better or worse. Every speaker or component has the capacity to keep things fresh sounding.

    • @yyams
      @yyams 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello again Srba!
      I hope my memory got your name right and you'e holding up well.
      Since this last micro-conversation I've been on quite the audio trip. A parasound new classic power amplifier makes these sing rather noticeably better in every way than the Cambridge, and applies (optionally) a high pass filter at 40hz/18db-octave, and another preout, could . A home built sealed compact peerless XLS 10" subwoofer does an incredible job on filling in the low end, down to below 30 if I push it - but I don't in order to preserve it's fairly snappy nature, because of the two the 30-40KG 15" sealed subwoofers I made earlier this year., One relieves the little 300w powered passive of the stress of everything under 30, and the other takes care of anything 18-25 hz. .Alll EQ'd by ear using a sine wave sweep website and MINIDSP... A true adventure!!!!
      Oh and a pair of Dynaudio Audienve 62's - I can't, nor ever want to, decide which I prefer. A change is as good as a rest, as they say over here, so every so often I swap them into rotation, enjoy them a while... Repeat, repeat, repeat etc.
      This is by no means the perfect system, nor remotely "high end", but It's my system and if I want 20hz rattling the window frames, and a choice between punchy rhythmic or more clinical speakers, then that' what I'll build!
      With the bass all powered by Class D amplification of less than pedigree than any HIFI snob would sink to, but INCREDIBLE FOR THE PRICE! I've slowly managed to create a monster.. My Cambridge is now simply a preamp, and having developed an incredibly lucky pulsating physical transformer hum is being collected soon for return by courier to shop I purchased it from.
      If you read this, I'd love to hear your opinions on a cost effetive preamp to consider. I need just the absolute basics, a few pairs of RCA inputs, an RCA output
      Anyways, I came here to check what you said in the review about them, and found I agree entirely!
      Thanks for your videos dude
      J James.

    Great video, but you've broken my heart. I bought a new hi-fi system in 2020 (unheard before I bought it because of COVID) The sales rep paired these speakers with the Cambridge AXA35, which I've since upgraded to the CXA61. To me they sounded way too bright, but not anymore. Either I've just gotten used to it or things have calmed down. I can now listen for hours and hours. If I was to upgrade my speakers, what bookshelf speaker of similar dimensions that are position-friendly would you suggest for an apartment listener( i.e., neighbour friendly). My budget is under USD $2,000. But less is better.

      I bought these about 5 months ago to replace a pair of Elac B6 speakers. Right out of the box, these speakers sound great. Nothing wrong with the B6's and as a matter of fact, they were quite nice to listen to. They were so good that I considered buying the B6.2 but ultimately went with the Monitors. I really like these speakers, they sound wonderful. I am using a 10" subwoofer with them but have it dialed down some. Now, they have a newer version of the Bronze 2. Go figure.

    • @mmil
      @mmil 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vansonmafeet734 I was also considering the B6.2 but given the price and a sound comparison of the monitors with the T5V I saw recently, I went for these ones. Personally what I was looking for is a set of speakers that can come close enough to the way my HD 660s sound when I use them as computer speakers (sitting a bit behind my desk) e.g. like studio monitors (although I have nothing to do with this kind of job).
      My setup at the moment is a DX7 Pro, the HD 660s and the PA3 amp. Totally not audiophile grade stuff, but this is the kind of sound I am after. I think (I will know on Tuesday) these speakers will deliver. BTW I am also going to be using a Yamaha sub woofer to pass the speaker signal through and cut off some of the bass coming out out of them. They will be playing a meter away from my ears and I cannot stand too much bass directly.

      @@iiWiReviews So what you said is true after all ;) Just got the speakers a couple of hours ago and although they had not had their run-in yet (obviously), they do sound exactly as I wanted them to sound: clean, accurate (sound stage wise), fast and most importantly very close to my HD 660s than any of my old speaker sets.

    I started off with Bronze series and now have Silver500’s. I think Monitor Audio is way under rated and is a great speaker company.
    They can handle most every thing I throw at them and I’m always surprise how honest and revealing they can be. I disagree with your amp suggestions. I’m using Cambridge cxa81 with a buffer tube line stage. I do think A/B amp is a better choice than class D. Of course this a different speaker than the Bronze series but I’m guessing Monitor Audio does similar voicing. Thanks for the video. I wish There were more Monitor audio reviews.

      Hi Andy, I did listen to BX2 and liked it too, but it was some time ago and not in my own system... Because of that, it's very difficult to reliably compare these two so take this with a pinch of salt. That said, both have that MA house sound signature for sure but I'd say that newer Bronze is a bit smoother and dig slightly more details.

      If you're on a budget, instead of buying that cheap transparent (PVC) speaker cable I'd just go for any affordable copper wire with silicone insulation, anything from 2 mm2 will do the trick but I prefer ~ 4 mm2 (11 AWG) for a bit fuller body. Just twist + and - wires lightly and you're ready to go. This is actually cheaper and better than most budget brand speaker wires.

    Bought it, love it! Great bang for the buck. Needs a bright amp or tone control for highs but that may just be me. I crank up the treble considerably and the bass fractionally on my amp for the sound that I like but for most people, this would be a very balanced speaker. For better, you'd have to spend a lot more! Good looking and well finished too.

      Actually, the speakers provide adequate (some say excessive) treble. You know, the usual: tweeters at ear level, toe the speakers towards you.. If this doesn't help the room may be too "dead": drapes, rugs, sofas, cushions dampening the treble.
      You may have a "treble shy" amp.

I discovered I need to blow out my ears, like after a flight, before I listen to music and then suddenly I can hear all highs etc 😂 The speakers are perfectly balanced! However, I wanted bigger sound so I returned them and got a MA RX2! A discontinued model but Silver Series nevertheless. I paid $170 extra. They sound absolutely awesome! But the ear discovery has changed my life!! ALL my speakers sound fantastic! 😂

      I've got these sat on Isoacoustics isolation mounts on my desk albeit in a corner as I've got limited space unfortunately and I'm running them with the port plugs in to reduce boundary reinforcement, so not the best placement for the Bronze 2 as from what I've read they need a fair amount of space to breath!
      Now my opinion of these speakers would be that they do lean more towards the brighter side but i don't personally find they fatigue at all, they are super clear and give a lot of the music I listen to a three dimensional live sound that I've personally never experienced before! yes they are 'colored'. I've measured them in several different setups in the same (treated) room and the trend is they have a slight dip around 300hz, a bit up at 500hz, then back down just a tad to around 800hz, then there's the peak from 1k to 1.6/2k, then depending on toe in there's the 2/2.5k dip, 3 to 5k is very slightly peaked over median, measuring above 5k was tricky and results varied a lot but overall nothing super crazy happens that would make me think there was something wrong with them. Apart from modes messing things up, the overal swing is +/-5dB 100hz-10k.
      I'm quite pleased with them for the price, although i find that after having treated the room I have to brighten up the room with some more diffusion as the speakers are now just a tad too mellow for my liking.

    • @iiWiReviews

      Both Yamaha A-S500 and RS1 are bright sounding gear... But Bronze 2 is too so I don't think you'll achieve what you want that way. If that combo is too bright for your taste, you should probably try and change one of those to brands (either Yamaha or MA) for something a bit darker and more tame. For example, I heard very successful combos using older NAD amps (such as C355 BEE) and MA Silvers or Bronzes. But if you want to keep Yamaha than better look for some tamer and sweeter sounding speakers than MAs.

    this is very poor advice, in 95% of systems these speakers suck, they are unruly and shockingly bright, the last thing you can call them is neutral, the lower bass and sub bass tends to be walowy and single tone, they need plenty of space around them to help tame the brightness but it still does not work, my advice is look elsewhere like q acoustics or wharfedale they are so much better, unless you are running tube amps from 50 years ago avoid monitor audio they will bite you in the ass.

    • @gtk_NO
      @gtk_NO 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldnt say its neccesarily poor advice but at this price range Dali Oberon 1 will probably beat them, as will probably q acoustics or wharfedale as you say. What amp did you test with btw, a super bright amp? The bronze 2s have something going on which is pretty rare at this price point which is front porting. If you dont care about front porting as a single criteria then I wouldnt go for these. I almost feel the opposite to you that there is something weird going on in treble as you, but that they are lacking air for me, but that there there is some weird peakyness maybe nasality in a confined but "wrong" part of the treble area, that they sound a bit veiled for these reasons. Another user in the comments thread commented not enough treble and I remember Z reviews also saying something about the treble. I dont find them that good at lower volumes, to me it seems like they are designed to be able to play at almost party level. I tried them with 2x140w amp and they can go quite loud but starts breaking up before speakers costing 3x, 4x the price. These are not my favourite speakers but good for the price, probably needs to be matched with the right electronics dac/amp for the sound the user wants. Ive tried a lot of speakers in this price range, 2x price range and 3x price range. All of your listed complaints will pretty much go away if you go up a level. Try the ELAC Debut Reference. DBR62 for instance, those are super balanced if thats your thing. I also expected too much from the bronze 2s, but its probably quite irrelevant as people wont be able to hold of them from much longer. Your onto something In my opinion though, later monitor audios replacing this series are NOT getting good reviews. Anyway, everyone lists treble as the main shortcoming, too much or too little, we can all agree to disagree, but there is definately something going on with the treble whatever it may be.

      @@gtk_NO Your answer doesn't make sense because I didn't ask you at all. I wrote my opinion on the sound and the price does not correspond to the quality of production. The sound will impress from the beginning because it is dynamic and very loud for its size, but that's all they can do! The main problem is the tweeter which does not have the detailed sound as promised by production and tests and many people have the same opinion. I also compared the jamo column speakers with the 626 and the jamo was a clear winner. Fine treble and the overall sound was at least a class higher.
