That was fun. Little boat with a lot going for it. Decked out nice. I never realized Salmon was so expensive. My Son cooks it on the Weber grill a bit. I like it that way. Never had it raw before. Maybe some day. You could tell Mike was the Captain of the boat. I like the way you explain topics Ivin. Helps me understand better as to what your doing. Thank you for sharing. Can't wait till next video.
That Mike is very observant of everything on his boat…..tending the lines, steering the boat, watching the kids. I think I’ll check out their site & order a box. Thanks Eivan for another video from Alaska.
Great video! As a former commercial fisherman out of King Salmon Bristol Bay, Kenai, and Kotzebue. It was our job to purchase and unload salmon from tenders, commercial fishing boats, and villagers. We would load them up in totes, ice them down and put them on cargo planes to be processed in Kenai. We handled thousands upon thousands of pounds of salmon! There’s nothing better than fresh caught salmon! Your video brings back some very fond memories. Oh and the stories I can tell! Lol. Thanks for posting. I really enjoy your channel.
Nice little boat. Like the way the outboard is mounted inside the canoe stern, I've not seen that very often in the U.K. Thanks for uploading, God bless all the kilchers and friends ❤
Great fishing video, I really enjoy ot when someone catches fish, never tried raw salmon ita a acquired taste raw fish,.....now oysters. Yes definitely great taste raw, totally different fried !!!
Great vid as ever, thanks. Something to try Eivin, when fishing, boat, shore, fly and river. You're right handed, and have seen you cast that way. When you retrieve, you switch to left hand. Try to keep the rod in your right hand always, with your hand higher than the reel, with winder on the left... You may well have tried this and prefer your way, if so I'll be quiet. Looking forward to the next upload 🐟💨🏴
have you thought more about doing an origins vid? documenting both sides of your families history? you touch on it in this video at the beginning with where the boat came from along eves history but id still love to hear how your families came to america and how you ended up in the wilds of alaska. i remember from the old tv show some of it, i think it was the grandfather who first started homesteading out there or something. id love to see more history.
That little boy - an extra limit - is so comfortable on that boat. 11:55 he is on the cabin with a pencil. If that guy has a channel I think I might take a look.
Eivin that's the way I normally eat mine salmon too sushimi now if you want to take the salmon eggs and make them caviar one quart of water one cup of pickling salt mix it together really really good then put your separated salmon eggs into this brine between 15 and 30 minutes if I'm going to eat it this stuff like regularly I do 15 minutes if it's going to sit a little longer i do about 25 i'm just stick it in the bar back of your refrigerator works about 40°. And it should stay for months
Don't need a piece of 1/2 inch or quarter inch mesh screen at least one foot square the size the eggs and plastic one would be the best but you can use galvanized if that's the only thing you have. Now the other thing I didn't tell you after i do 15 minutes the brining you want to get cheesecloth big piece of cheesecloth and you want to pour all those eggs into that cheesecloth and stick it in a calendar and and let it all that stuff start dripping out of it for about 5 minutes in the sink then put the calendar in a pot so and then transfer the pot and the calendar with all the eggs into the refrigerator for about 8 hours make sure it's at 40° after it's drained you just put the eggs into glass jars easier the best or plastic it stays the best at 40° in the back refrigerator and it should be able to stay in the jars for up to six maybe eight months . I would have eating it by then personally. This recipe is out of Jack Whelan book smoking salmon and trout plus canning freezing pickling them more and you can get off Amazon it's really good lots of other stuff in you're like making lox i'm doing other things i recommend the book i really really do@@kilcher_homestead
That was a gorgeous fat salmon... I eat salmon near everyday and love the stuff. Keep up the good work making these videos. Between your father's videos and your videos I am enjoying very much. >@^_*@
I tried King Dalmon recently and I wasn't too impressed with it. Perhaps we didn't cook it right but im intrigued by you eating it raw. I found my favorite salmon in the Sockeye but Halibut is my favorite fish overall. I would love to try black cod but I don't see that here in Central Oregon grocery stores.
Salmon is very easy to over cook. Ideally salmon should be cooked so that flakes in the meat are just barely raw in the middle when you take it out the pan or oven.
@@posseeANNA sure do, have for over 30years, same with our snapper, terekihi, kingfish, John dory, marlin, swordfish, yellowfin and Southern bluefin tuna, kahawai, were lucky in NZ we have so many different species, and most can be eaten raw, same with oysters, mussels, sea urchin (kina), and other shellfish
If you live in Alaska(a resident), do you have to have a tag for King Salmon? When our family visited Alaska, we went on a King Salmon fishing expedition, each of us had to purchase a tag…it was super expensive. (It was June 2011)
Nice country and thanks for taking me along you do know that God gave man the know how to make fire so he didn't have to eat raw stuff lol eat some for me I don't mind 😋 😂
I've never understood why people feel they must pump these salmon. Every time they pump and drop the rod tip down they throw slack in the line and can allow the salmon to throw the hook . Bent rod held high and just reel. That kid needs to sit down before he falls off that boat. I'll bet he's driving the dad crazy.

Yes, wild salmon is easily $20+ lb anywhere. That farm-raised #@$ is not even real fish.
That Mike is very observant of everything on his boat…..tending the lines, steering the boat, watching the kids. I think I’ll check out their site & order a box. Thanks Eivan for another video from Alaska.
Thanks, they are a HARD WORKING AK fishing family.
Good to watch it done, catching, not just fishing. I love cod too. Thanks, from…east Tennessee

Glad you Threw Back the Rock Fish with Eggs. 👍🙏
I love that internal outboard well. Very good for a following sea. Neat boat all around. Nice fish.
Awesome salmon, my favourite for sure, definitely raw. Great job getting it ready to eat.❤️

Enjoyed the trip. Yum yum👍👍👍
Looks yummy. I have never eaten salmon. Love your videos.

Great video content, Beautiful Country Appreciate. Take Care and Stay Safe 🍷🍷🍷
Thanks for the video and for the salmon source, if you guys are recommending I definitely will check it out. Thanks so much for sharing!!
Hope you enjoy it!
Good to see ya bro hope you and the fam are doing well
The title made me laugh 😂I'm pretty sure it's trawling, but trolling works too I guess 🤪
Nope, I have it right. Although trawling is a different type of fishing.
Trawling uses nets…trolling uses lines….Elvin for the win…lol
I did the best fishing with Mike at the Harksell bar off enterprise rd. When we rented a house together.
Nice video
That kid, and both adults would be wearing a PFD in my boat
The kid is wearing a PFD
motor in the middle wow that definitely different. I love halibut so get one lol
Hey Eiven, you just catch...
David and Goliath! 😄
Hello from Siesta Key Florida
Eivin come fish with me in NorCal!
Delicious outcome🎉.
JO JO IN VT 💞

Eivin, if you'll hold the rod a little higher, (above the reel) it'll be more support on the rod, less strain on your elbow/arm. 😊
Hello, Eivin.❤. Good luck😅.
good morning from maine i see you have a maine hat,,
Yes I do! Someone gave it to me recently.
Nice video and god bless

How do you separate your eggs. It is kind of a PITA too separate them. So I never make the caviar.

Salmon is very easy to over cook. Ideally salmon should be cooked so that flakes in the meat are just barely raw in the middle when you take it out the pan or oven.
You still want the flakes to separate but the color should still be a toney bit raw. It's so sensitive in those last few minutes of cooking
I’ll never forget the first time I saw my chickens down an entire field mouse in about 2.5 seconds! I was shocked lol
Here in NZ we take soy and wasabi fishing and eat 2mins out of the river
Do you eat it raw out of the river.
Is there a specific temperature that you set your freezer to in order to make the salmon safe to eat raw? I'm curious to try!
-4° for 7 days is what is recommended
@@kilcher_homestead cheers! Love the videos - keep em comin'
yummy!

I’ll take 10 of those plz!!
That was a sailboat before being a fishing boat right?!?!?
Nope. Those never had a sail. Always a akiff
yummmm
I thought catfish were expensive holy smokes
Ya its on !
Lets see atz lee in one of your videos
somebody needs a cutting board! I know a guy lol. check out the one i made your mom, with the ulu bowl built in
Black cod better than Halibut?
SOOOO much better.
I like halibut ok and salmon ok, but I LOVE blackcod aka sablefish
No raw fish for me. I do love cooked fish, though.
Здравствуйте где ваш младший брат что то его не видно 🙂🙂🙂
Why dont the kid wear a life jacket but enjoyed the fishing
LGF 🎣
Crappy little boat...why not go on your boat which is awesome...😊
That is a fishy boat. Meaning we will catch more fish.
I don’t eat bait.
Nasty fish not cook gross
But it is pretty nice size fish tc and gb you guys
I wish you’d keep your son in the well of the boat he doesn’t look very safe on the top of the cabin
Plus no life vest.
He does have a life vest on. And he is a little spider. We are not worried about him falling off the boat.
@@kilcher_homestead I double checked. My mistake.
Mike seems like a prick to me.
Just camera shy.
I've seen a mouse try to run through our chicken run and it was like a rugby match, they tore it to pieces. 🫣
