I know this is not an Indie game, but you did cover Hideo Kojima & Metal Gear, so, I would like to suggest doing a video about Final Fantasy, because it had a very interesting backstory.
The story of how Among Us managed to reach tons of fame despite being released 2 years ago with barely anyone knowing about the game is unironically beautiful and motivating honestly
Just takes a few streamer personalities to find the game and latch onto it. I cringe at xQc being mentioned (toxic guy that he is), but others include DisguisedToast, CORPSE, I know a lot of people are in love with Sykkuno, there's 5up.... and my favorite, Hafu. These are people that have thousands and thousands of subscribers, and one day, TH-cam recommended one of Hafu's videos (the one where she makes TinaKitten cry!) and I was like ".. what's this?" and I was instantly hooked and now I try to catch Hafu's daily video highlights. It's brought me a lot of laughs and funtimes. I even bought the game myself, even though I've not actually played it yet, I'm hoping to start once my new bedroom is done RL.
A lot of people forget the reason why Among Us became popular with non-gamers is the pandemic. This was a game that became popular at the peak of the lockdown, allowing friends to play and have fun or just hang out socially. I have fond memories of playing it every night and it brought us together even though everyone else was stuck in their homes.
Switch is exceptionally easy to port to, which is why the eshop is loaded with shovelware every month. Well, at least it's nice to find the occasional amusing little gem for 10c :D
The sad thing is... There might be A LOT MORE underrated games like this Edit: For all the people who says "This is not underrated", I know. I meant that games that are AMAZING, but are UNDERRATED (i.e. Among Us, was a great game BUT was underrated and made only 35$ in 2018) Edit 2: Feel free to comment any games that you think is underrated :)
Well, if your game suddenly did something unbelievable business-wise, and raised from the ashes a SECOND TIME to become the most popular game in the world, who wouldn't want to continue updating that game? Innersloth definitely didn't want to miss out that one-in-a-lifetime chance
I am Brazilian and the fact that a Brazilian youtuber and our community is an important part of the growth of the game, warms my heart of happiness. I love it when indie games take over from big companies.

Lots of people love the game, but searching 20 mins for a lobby isn't worth it. They just needed that free advertising. I wasn't playing it last year because I didn't know it existed. I'd still be playing Soldat if anyone else was. FNC is about to go the same way.
I am actually a old player ( found this game myself by searching for some random game on play store on mobile ) So , you trust me or not but this game was fun earlier too...people do not leave lobbies but they weren't smart ( everyone played casually ) but the biggest problem was to find lobbies because it wasn't popular... I sometimes fell bad because if i had started a youtube channel in those days then yk... BTW currently i have played more than 2000+ matches with 72.7% imposter win rate ( I never cheated )
Tbh im sort of sad that the game blew up because of streamers, since when the streamers move on, a large portion of the playerbase will definitely follow after them and leave Among Us behind due to the fact that the game is stupid simple and the dev team can't pump out updates at a satisfying ratd
@@jbbajangamer I mean, yeah, but, lets take the example of kaif, one of the small group that has played with the devs a few times, his more seen content is social deception games, and it has been like that forever
Fun fact: There’s a comment on the official beta trailer for Among Us that says “Nobody’s going to play your stupid game.” Needless to say, they may have been a tiny bit wrong.
It’s funny I’m coming across this, me and my friends have been playing Among Us on and off since 2018, and only now seeing it get so popular and all of my favorite streamers playing it is pretty cool.
You can probaboy find a video about that online, and not to mention thats more of a story of Among Us and Innersloth. They got burnt out on most of their projects. Not to mention in this video he even talks about how they got burnt out of remaking some of their projects. I remember searching "Mafia games" in Play Store because of theses memes ads. And then i saw space mafia. I just looked at the title weirdly and then scrolled down.
18:32 I believe they have done ALL of these! Controls can be key mapped, there is an optional role to make it more fun as a ghost, etc 18:59 to think there was a time that it wasn't on consoles, lol
I remember playing this game like 1 year ago with my friend. There were like hardly any lobbies available. Although I would be telling a big lie if I said I preferred 2020 among us compared to 2019 among us. 2019 among us was a lot more fun since most of the players then actually were smart and not just a bunch of 2 year old kids.
I think the optimal experience is via discord. Provided there is a friend group big enough or a community of sorts and the reason why I still haven't played it.
Yeah, you really need a discord group. Those can be moderated, discord rooms could have codes, and troublemakers can be booted out, and Discord voice chat would surely be better than using the texting system in-game. It's what all the streamers do, and it seems to work extremely well for them.
Super Meat Boy or the Binding of Issac are games I would like to see. I feel like these 2 weird games might potentially have a crazy story behind them.
Good suggestions! I love Binding of Isaac so it’s been on my list for a while. However, the Noclip channel recently did a video on a bunch of games that were made and co-created by Edmund McMillen (Binding of Isaac and Super Meat Boy) so I’m not sure if there’s anything more I could contribute to the topic.
Well, most of the problems that occurred when the game blows up was because of server issues. Players were barely able to even log into the game. So it becomes an issue of server size and optimization, and it isn’t really a problem that can be solved by just having more guys working on it (they needed creative solutions, rather than more “hands typing code”, so to say). You don’t really need a big team for a game like this, tbh.
I remember playing among us when skeld was the only map it wasnt as big as it is now but the community loved it and they still do, keep doing a great job innersloth
I really love the character designs, as so simple but cute, and interesting the way the hands disappear and re appear. I feel so much suspense too when playing, and trying to plead my case no matter which side Im on. It would be cool to have a voice chat option for just random groups.
From start to finish, this was an exceptionally made video. The running background, rolling text next to the speaker's picture, and the overall timeline were so well put together. The accompanying music was perfect in that I never really noticed it, but I was definitely more interested in the video because of it
As someone who has a side business with a friend, I can attest to the pains of being a cofounder of any company, especially a tech startup. It's a shit ton of work! And when you don't have a lot of experience already, the grand majority of the time, you will spend learning and failing. You will have to stay hours upon hours staring into a computer screen without seeing you friends for weeks until you can make a living out of what you are doing. Development will be slow because everyone in your team has other jobs, other goals, and other shit going on in their life and you can't depend on any one person. It will also be slow because you could run into a myriad of issues if you don't know what you are doing or are frustrated or depressed for whatever reason. For example, today i lost a small portion of a project I was doing because I was trying to split the GitHub repository of another project i am working on. You will also not have the budget to offer an amazing experience to the client which as the video states, is the reason innersloth had shitty servers. The reason why i made this comment, is because every company starts off not making any money for at least the first year. Innersloth is no exception. I guess their biggest mistake is not taking into account the scalibility of Among Us.
the sad thing is that back in 2018 me and a couple buddies found this game during our freshmen year. back then it was more serious and not just "oh your sus" it was only local yeah. we were all on the same wifi but there was only like six of us. it was pretty fun. but the game had already died for me when it got popular
Finally there's a video that actually recognizes how the game actually had a first spike in popularity in 2019 in Brazil. Most people (sometimes even Brazilian youtubers) act like the game was unknown until this year.
Before I made the video, I honestly thought it only got popular this year so I was surprised to find that there was such a rich history behind the game! But yup, if you've done a little research, it's undeniable that the audience in Brazil basically motivated the developers to keep expanding the game. Who knows, without that initial spike, the team might have moved on to a new game and no one would still be talking about Among Us today.
i played the game often back in 2018-2019. there was a community yet it was large enough that it was rare to meet people from different matches you met earlier. the maps also costed money on mobile including ads. another thing was that more colors were added a few weeks to a few months after i started playing, then came free hats, i miss the game being small and probably would've kept playing if the outburst of new players didnt happen or wasnt as big
americans: this new game is so good! me, a brazillian, who knows the game since 2018: yeah, what a cool "new game" apparently americans get hurt when someone includes them in a joke, so just for clarification: this is a joke
And then they take away normal chat, which restricts communication, a key mechanic in making the game work nicely. Now that it’s so much harder to communicate, the game feels dull.
I honestly don't like the game, but I gotta appreciate the work the devs had to go through and how the community managed to grow to unrealistic proportions, nobody expected a simple game with simple graphics to become so popular, but here we are
Loving this series so far, and it's nice to learn how to do things for game development. I think it would be cool to see either ultrakill, return of the obra dinn or disco elysium!
Hearing that the servers burned down every time that there was a new wave makes the fact that Mira and Polus servers are absolutely destroyed currently make a lot more sense
They never got rid of chat though, you only get stuck with Quick Chat if you're under 13 Which isn't even that big of a problem anyways since you can just fake your age
I came across Among Us in 2018 or so cuz I am really obsessed with murder mystery Mafia like games especially where you can chat/multiplayer. I was desperately searching google play until I found Among Us, I fell in love with the game and only played every week or so due to studies. I was so happy when this game got the popularity it deserved.
The thing that ruined the game for me and why I don’t play it any more is because of the messaging system I find it difficult to get working and having a good conversation
This really is just an epic story on how you should never give up, it's really beautiful just seeing that this game was barely played by anybody for the past two years until it suddenly just blows up into a game that is loved by many. Really just a story on how you should never give up on anything and I like it.

I really love the character designs, as so simple but cute, and interesting the way the hands disappear and re appear. I feel so much suspense too when playing, and trying to plead my case no matter which side Im on. It would be cool to have a voice chat option for just random groups.
To be honest i now understand more that lack of updates lately.
it shatters me to imagine the many, many alternate timelines where things went way different.

Very interesting and clean video! I am very happy that you covered the game's history so thoroughly. Looking forward to seeing more videos from you!
Much appreciated, glad you liked it! More videos are definitely coming, the next one is going to be about Papers, Please!
From start to finish, this was an exceptionally made video. The running background, rolling text next to the speaker's picture, and the overall timeline were so well put together. The accompanying music was perfect in that I never really noticed it, but I was definitely more interested in the video because of it
Thank you so much! Glad you liked it :D

Your documentaries are so good! I LOVE learning about my favourite games.
My pleasure! I always have a blast making these videos and seeing all the positive responses is the cherry on top for me :D
I was actually playing end of 2018 I was one of those guys saying it needed new maps lol im glad they took it so far honestly a great game
the sad thing is that back in 2018 me and a couple buddies found this game during our freshmen year. back then it was more serious and not just "oh your sus" it was only local yeah. we were all on the same wifi but there was only like six of us. it was pretty fun. but the game had already died for me when it got popular
Played in 2018 and I'm so proud of where it's at 😢
Me Too (:
Finally there's a video that actually recognizes how the game actually had a first spike in popularity in 2019 in Brazil. Most people (sometimes even Brazilian youtubers) act like the game was unknown until this year.
Before I made the video, I honestly thought it only got popular this year so I was surprised to find that there was such a rich history behind the game! But yup, if you've done a little research, it's undeniable that the audience in Brazil basically motivated the developers to keep expanding the game. Who knows, without that initial spike, the team might have moved on to a new game and no one would still be talking about Among Us today.
Honestly I am surprised Teo wasn’t recognized for it
I can say for sure that Kaif is why I started playing Among Us.
i played the game often back in 2018-2019. there was a community yet it was large enough that it was rare to meet people from different matches you met earlier. the maps also costed money on mobile including ads. another thing was that more colors were added a few weeks to a few months after i started playing, then came free hats, i miss the game being small and probably would've kept playing if the outburst of new players didnt happen or wasnt as big
Well it was released on the Nintendo switch yesterday. Perfect.
Here to juice that algorithm
americans: this new game is so good!
me, a brazillian, who knows the game since 2018: yeah, what a cool "new game"
apparently americans get hurt when someone includes them in a joke, so just for clarification: this is a joke

And then they take away normal chat, which restricts communication, a key mechanic in making the game work nicely.
Now that it’s so much harder to communicate, the game feels dull.
Guys, we NEED a round of applause for these devs, they've been working so hard and they really made things better for everyone

All great suggestions, they're on my list now! ;)
I like how some TH-camr actually said Mafia copied Among us.
Hearing that the servers burned down every time that there was a new wave makes the fact that Mira and Polus servers are absolutely destroyed currently make a lot more sense
It REALLY makes you wonder how many other really small indie games there are that are really good but are unniticed.
There was a really good indie game called Clout but the creator had a mental breakdown and it got shut down

They never got rid of chat though, you only get stuck with Quick Chat if you're under 13

As a Banquet beer bottle cap once told me, "Be proud of doing it your own way."
Woah I didn’t know Among Us had such a interesting history. Great vid u had good facts and explained everything very well.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it!
This really is just an epic story on how you should never give up, it's really beautiful just seeing that this game was barely played by anybody for the past two years until it suddenly just blows up into a game that is loved by many. Really just a story on how you should never give up on anything and I like it.
