You make it look easy. Note: If the wind is strong, your technique might not work, _unless_ the canoe is turned so the ama is on the windward side. This way, the wind will actually help flip the ama as you push the iako. I learned this the hard way-once, the wind was so strong that I couldn’t get the ama to flip windward-ish ( it kept snapping back ), so I had to turn the canoe in the water, first ( which wasn't particularly easy due to the swell ). The foolproof method, however, is to swim over to the non-ama side, flutter-kick to lift your upper body onto the upturned hull, and then grab and pull the iako. Remounting on the ama side is easier too.
Looking good. Reminds me to keep practicing! I always come up ama side, seems “easier”. But when chop is really pounding everything, ama side seems more stable entry.
Yeah, I mean, that's what I used to do, but it does damage the ama after a while. So avoid when possible, but if you're in a race, that's the way to do it!

You make it look so easy. I have to practice that more. Thanks for the tips!
Haha, thanks. You no need practice...in the 3ish years I've paddle with you, I think I only saw you huli once...you expert level das why 👊💪
If you are a beginner on OC1 do not attempt remounting the OC from the non-ama side. If you do, you'll flip over (huli) again.
Ok make a video for paddlers weighing 200 pounds and up. Swing the left leg over?

Excellent!
Thanks! 🤙
