I literally just ordered one while I was getting more cdc. I already went through 5 big bags of cdc. I may order a cdc dubbing block from Germany and see if I like it
I am splitting the thread on smaller flies, for things like collars on nymphs. They hold up just fine on the smaller flies. For larger flies like my Jiggy Bugger pattern, for instance, I make a dubbing brush to make the body and I do a dubbing loop. The brush made with the loop is much stronger and more durable than splitting the thread of course however the loop makes a much wider thread and adds too much bulk to a small nymph in the size 12-18 range.
No I have not used them for dry fly hackle. I’m sure it would work however I would guess the hackle would not be the prettiest (for lack of better words) also larger dry fly hackle typical is not the best quality dry fly hackle fibers.
Wonderful idea, this saves time and money for the tier!
Great video and the use of the clamp

Cool! Congrats Deborah.
Nice technique to maximize feather use.
Congrats Deborah!

So many split the thread -- does it weaken the thread? Does it shorten the use of the fly wit active fish? Big fish here in Alaska …

Congratulations on winning the clamp.
Nice win Deborah!
I use my long hackle to make oversized wooley buggers for catfish and huge bluegill
Have you ever tried to use the cdc clamp for oversized dry fly feathers?

Similar to a fly fish food video I saw
I think she cheated.
