My father started his apprenticeship as a " Stellmacher" (Wagner) in 1949. When he finished his apprenticeship in 1951, his master gifted him a carpenter's bench. He was allowed to pick out the materials from his wood depot and build it himself. The workbench was made in the French style from an almost 200-year-old oak tree that had been stored for 30 years. And no matter how many times he moved, the bank always found a place. His pride and joy. Greetings from Germany
Thought I caught a mistake seeing the slight gap on the edge board. Then realized it was for expansion of the top. What a pleasure it is watching these videos!
Everything in this channel is amazing, the recording, the editing, the audio, the dog, the contemplation shots of nature, and of course the woodworking itself. Absolutely lovely, all of it.
I don't know why I bother to comment on your videos. I say the same thing every time.......they are just some of the very best woodworking videos on any media channel. The attention to detail in your woodwork is simply fantastic. Your workshop is fantastic. Even your dog is great!
Very good ! I have been a professional furniture maker here in Norway for over 25 years now and I really like your way of working. It makes sense to me. Keep up the good work & best wishes to you and your family.
21 people are worried the top will tear the skirting apart. I'm worried too, but it's a beautiful piece of work, hopefully it'll be ok. Love your videos.
Its so good to see such videos with no annoying background music but only the real soundscape of working tools. Thnx for your efforts to share ur work. Greets from Berlin.
Dear Mr. Ishitani, May i make a suggestion about clamping techniques, if you don't mind? There is a setup, where you can place your pipe clamps vertically on an inclined panel- against a wall. This allows for easier access, keeping the floor clear, and most of all, avoiding back pain. Because some long and large glue ups can be very heavy. You're still young, but as the years go by the body gets tired and needs to save its energy. Other than that, I have watched many of your videos, and I really appreciate your very fine craftsmanship, and your constant approach towards beauty. You are gifted person, and your work will surely go down in furniture history. Sending you my kindest regards from France.
I know nothing about wood working. (I know alot about knitting ☺️) But somehow you always know, when you are in the company of a Master. Thanks alot for the videoes the 3 of you are making. It is always a good day when your have a new video.
Really well done.a nice blend of western and Traditional Japanese woodworking techniques. The best of both worlds. I like to use a similar approach and draw on many influences.i have become a huge fan of Japanese woodworking and hand tools .the saws, chiesels, and planes are absolutely awesome.
Hi! I got a chance to comment on it. I think if I make the same, I will make it as a TH-cam video. I am carpenter in Korea as a hobby :) Nice to meet you :)
Fine and elegant work, as always. For the 7G (7th generation) I propose the Ishitani personal version of the Roubo workbench, maybe with two wooden vises.
work bench is a black and decker portable thing . that is a work of art , id never use it , its so nice , infact its nicer than many dining tables ive seen. even i like it , and im a welder.
I’m making plans to move to a small town in Arizona. There’s a local wood shop I’ll be able to join. Looking forward to spending a good amount of there. Id like to have my home furnished with all of my own creations.
Great to see such quality workmanship, just curious about the small gap at each side-is it sufficiently wide to allow for the expansion of the main top section?
I came here looking for a video on how someone made a workbench. What I found was a love story. And now that it's over, I have no words.

I hope that you still have that bench!
Oh man, that is a real thing to live for. Not this rat race that everybody is into today...
When a work bench is made better than most people’s expensive furniture 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thought I caught a mistake seeing the slight gap on the edge board. Then realized it was for expansion of the top. What a pleasure it is watching these videos!
I saw that too, then thought "he's good enough to not leave any gap like that" , so realized he did that for a reason.
These comments feel like I have a lot to learn. Just starting out.
That Is Some Finest Woodworking I Have Ever Seen I’m A Retired Woodworker With 35 Years Experience

It's amazing! He puts in the same level of craftsmanship into building a workbench as he would a fine piece of furniture! He's amazing!
It's always a pleasure to find a new Ishitani Furniture video. Great craftmanship without annoying music or blabla. Thanks!
An adjustable height workbenches is a real luxury. Very cool and useful.
I love this channel and I am so so so glad you don't put any garbage music over the video. That's one of the worst things about TH-cam
A true craftsman that creates a workbench with the same level of detail he creates his beautiful furniture.

Yet another wonderful video. It's always a pleasure watching you work. Thank you.
What a real craftsman can do with a million dollar workshop !
Loved the way you replaced the wood eye in your bench top. Impressive. 💕
That's a common technique to repair a small imperfection in wood and is called a dutchman:

Beautiful work! It’s always inspiring to watch someone taking pride in what they do. Thanks for the opportunity to watch your work!
I just woke up with you and a coffee. I'm not sure there is a better way to wakeup. Well done!

I like the adjustable mitre clamp @ 4:48 for scribing the joint lines across. Looks like an old Olympia clamp? So much to learn in these videos!

For anyone wondering what he dips his chisel into...
It’s reconstituted ego from other fallen carpenters who tried to tell him how to work...🙇♂️
Xxx

My first work bench was built from a salvaged solid core wood door and 2 x 4s. Not as nice as this one but close...LOL. Great piece.

This gent does what I want to, and makes it look effortless. Beautiful!
The wood is very well seasoned - you can tell by the noise it makes when you knock two pieces together.
