  • We follow three student teams across the Americas, capturing their trials and tribulations as they prepare for Shell Eco-marathon in Houston, Texas, USA. In the first episode find out why Canada's Alérion Supermileage team is struggling in their determination to regain victory; see why the Let's do it again team in the USA must step up the pace; and uncover the tensions within the e³- USFC team in Brazil. These innovative engineers of the future will soon do battle in ultra energy-efficient cars.

This is not only about winning. Facing real problems and solving them as engineers, that's what it's all about.
Now imagine what those poor kids could do with money..

to think about it, I feel super fortunate to actually participate in Shell Eco Marathon Asia and actually won first in the hydrogen Prototype category, it's unreal!

Is it possible to use gasoline vapor instead of gas? As you know, liquid gas will not combust, only fumes. So in a car we have injectors that mist the fuel into the engine to have a combustible fuel source. These injectors actually waste some amount of gas. So, instead of using injectors, you could completely bypass this process, as you could let gas sit in the fuel tank as usual and only suck only the fumes out and use them to power the car. As I am only 14 years old, I have yet to find a fairly simple way to do this, but it would increase fuel economy in theory wouldn't it? I've been raised by a Dad that's been a mechanic his whole life, so I know quite a lot to be 14 years old. But anyway, does anybody know if this would work and/or if anyone has ever done it??

It's cool to see the work that Laval does and their solutions for testing in the winter. Here at PSB, we have the same problem, only with 2-3x more snow. Sometimes we put winter tires on the supermielage car. I can't wait see their new car run well and put up some big numbers at Shell and SAE this year.

I am from the CNS high school and we won first in the hydrogen urban concept and second in the hydrogen prototype. this is my first year and I am very happy for this the prototype got 1200 miles per gallon of gas equivalent and the urban concept got 600 miles per gallon of gas equivalent. I hope to go in 2014

Amateurs. Use a rocker piston to avoid side wall friction losses. see my youtube channel.
You can also use a revolving ball/cylinder valve.
Of course electric drive is the future but if you have to enter with a combustion engine, at least do some thinking about the losses in it.

gas may be dead to you however the provider of your electricity uses oil to power the power plant maybe even you're own hot water heater. So in all gas is still pretty alive and well. @dave yesaiam how much of the environment is really being saved? Bc, like i just stated, the power company you use is still "spilling huge amounts of toxins into our one and only fish bowl"

Really? gasoline cars? I have 2 Chevy Volt electric cars that have A/C, heated leather seats, XMsirius radio, on-board phone,Navigation, 0-60 in 7 secs., and have only used 80 gallons of gasoline in 23,000 miles extending my battery charge if I need to go father than the batter will take me. I drive 98% of the time on the battery charged with my home's cheap electricity. 23,000 miles electric! GAS IS DEAD TO ME!
If you can plug your car in you can drive a fun car and avoid using gasoline.
