Thank you Anuja for explaining everything so simply so it's easy to understand. The vocal demonstrations are wonderful. I have only started listening to classical music in the last year and have been trying to educate myself about it. Your videos are perfect and I'm sure will prove to be a major catalyst in reviving interest the classical music of the subcontinent, particularly the youth. Perfect introduction to this beautiful world of music. It all makes more sense having understood the basic concepts. Your editing, camera work and graphic work is remarkable. Cannot thank you enough. People like you make the internet so extraordinary.

Thank You very much for explaining and showing examples of what Dhrupad sounds like. Now I know exactly what's wrong with singing of religious music.
I wonder why we wasted time in our music classes in school, the teachers could have given us some information. Their excuse was, too hard for you to understand and not enough time. Lazy or lack of knowledge to teach. While you take 10 mins. and provide a lot. Thank you.

Drupada as the personage in the Vedas means 'firm footed' or 'pillar'. He was important as the father of Draupadi.

Never heard this explanation before. Drupada, meaning pure love doesn't seem plausible. I wish somebody would verify this.

Happened to stumble upon TH-cam clip of Raag Bageshri by Kaushiki Chakroboti (Binati suno mori, Awadhpur ke basayiya). It just so happened that I had just finished watching this episode. From whatever I learned from this episode, it seeemed that this was composed in Dhrupad. Every characteristic you talked about in this episode was very distinctly present in it. Alaap, Bandish ( I could make Sthayee, and Antara. Could not make sense of Sanchari and Abhog). Also, instead of Pakhavaj and Rudra Veena, it used Tabla and Harmonium. Although the base was clearly there. If you still take the questions, please correct me if I am wrong.

Oh and about the speed (Layakaari?) The speed she was reciting the Layakari, even if I knew and remembered the notes, I could not say them as fast. Sheesh, I couldn't even talk that fast. And she was moving between the Mandra and Taar with such smooth flow, it was mind blowing !!
