Rossi himself said that in the early days they made quite a few mistakes live. It was after recording their 1977 Live! album, where more than a few duff notes can be heard, as they refused to use overdubs, that they realised they needed to start rehearsing more for the live shows, hence their better plsying in later years. I still love that raw energy of the Live! album, though

The Midnight Special, really put on some spectacular groups on. I couldn't wait to watch the show and see who was going to be on. This brings back memories.
There was never a more exciting sight than watching the late great Rick Parfitt pounding out _Big Fat Mama_ late in the show and there never will be again.
This is fantastic to see the real Quo in live action. Its easy to be critical of the performance in the cold light of day 50 years later, but to be there and see them perform live would be mind blowing. i saw them do this when they toured Australia in the 70's and they were the best going around. its a hard song to sing. Rick blew himself till he was red in the face. all the little musical Quo nuances are on show. this is one of my most favourite Quo songs from my most favourite Quo album.
I saw Status Quo -Unknown in the USA at the time, even now, several times 1974-1976. I loved 'em. They got limited radio play. They never made it in America. Why? Who knows?

Thank you for posting. One of my favourite Quo tunes. I have been listening to them for over 50 years now and this is just as I remember seeing them in the early days. Raw, unpolished, loud and utterly brilliant. If you could bottle the atmosphere they created at gigs back then you would be a very rich man indeed. Over the years many have knocked them but few have ever emulated them and the spirit of rock and roll they created. Wow wow wow!!!

That's really down to earth rock and roll. The very first time I was confronted with this magnificent way of making music, I was a kid of barely 14 years old. Now I'm 62 years of age and nothing has changed about the huge impression that started at the age of fourteen. Once again many, many thanks for this video with perfect quality of picture and sound !! This is the Quo I grew up with. The best memories of my life bar none. Smelly Bingley Hall etc but by god they rocked. Not the wishy washy 43 years that followed the 1980 album.
These guys were all about good old fashion toe tap. Songs like "Just Take Me" on the "Quo" album fully illustrate that. This is what you put on when you have to get something done.
In my own opinion Status Quo were an inspiration for Iron Maiden at the beginning of their career in the way to play music and in the way to stay on the stage.

The Reunion in 2013 was a present and Rick and Alan are forever in my Heart.

For your information... rick played Gibson SG, some scheckter tele, an black gibson special for 4500 times, an fender jaguar, the Ovation viper, or some other spares he had, also his white telecaster since mid 1974... his first appirence was at the Wembley Stadium 1974.... from there on it was his trademark guitar.... and they playing sound city, marshall or vox amps always compared to their sound they want to make, vs chorus, flange, echo, delay distorted/ overdrive boost effects, kicking some butts, loud and good often heavy headsdown nonsense boogie, making it good and funny for the audience and listeners😊
Yeah, here in the US it was Pictures of Matchstick Men, and that was about it. There were a few rock stations that broadcast international-oriented rock shows like "Rock Around The World" on Sunday evenings and that's where Status Quo's mid period stuff got a little bit of exposure. So there were a few sales of Hello, Piledriver, On The Level, etc. due to shows like that. Not enough to make the band or label money, but Capitol kept releasing their stuff after A&M dropped the band in 1974 or so.
Rick's voice is totally shredded here.

He’s a very underrated guitar player, never appears on any top 10 lists of guitar players. Better than most out there!

Outside of pictures of matchstick Men piledriver and their self-titled are easily the album that stick out within my opinion

Along with Paper Plane, Big Fat Mama are my favourite Quo tracks. Both on my favourite Quo album Piledriver. Classic Quo. Keep on Rockin.
