Just found your updated video on this. Apparently, you covered the information pretty well. Honestly, keeping the same phone type with at least one parent and all the children is a must. Most families actually run a similar device across the entire household anyway. That's especially important. What do you decide to run an android device or an apple device. I would even recommend staying with the same brand whenever possible if you're going to run android devices. For example, If you have one Samsung device in the hands of a parent, all the kids should stay with the same brand. It helps management go much smoother.
is there a way to just limit total time for the phone? I know how to limit the time frame and individual apps but maybe I just want to say "sure you can use the phone for 1 hour between 4 and 9 pm".
you can toggle "downtime". That effectively bricks the phone until you toggle it off. If you prefer you can have a schedule that downtime is toggled on until 4pm - 9pm on certain days.
To everyone commenting about not trusting your children or saying that the reason kids sneak out is because their parents are too strict: I was once a child with no restrictions. I got in trouble multiple times for sneaking out and having fun with my friends, and I misunderstood, thinking my parents didn’t love me. I became a mother at a young age. Now that I have children, I understand the restrictions and frustrations my parents felt back then. One day, when you become a parent, you’ll realize why some parents lose trust in their children or feel the need to set limits. There’s a saying: what goes around comes around. Also, this isn’t about not trusting our children; it’s about not being able to trust the world we live in now. There are predators on the internet, on the roads-predators everywhere. As parents who love our children deeply, we don’t want to take chances with their safety. If you choose not to set restrictions for your children, that’s your decision. My word to you is, “Good luck” raising your child with no limits.

Hi Family Tech, thanks for this video! I've just set up my 8 year old child to the parental control system and set up the app approval option. This works well with any app that is suitable for her age but with apps that are for older kids, like 12 year old, she can't even ask for permission, the app is automatically blocked, is there any way to overrule this restriction?
My son keeps turning off his find my iPhone. If there any way we can disable that so he can’t turn it off and we can still see where he is at? He is 10 and his friend showed him how to do it.
Your internet provider can show you search history even after it’s been deleted. All messages, even deleted ones, are available upon request from phone provider. Snapchat and TikTok will provide you with complete logs of who your child has been in contact with, messages, and every video they view. For a 10 year old, monitor all of this without them knowing. If they are on snapchat or TikTok get them off immediately. The amount of explicit content on TikTok is unbelievable and snapchat could expose your child to predators and could even expose their location to random people if they have that setting on.
Unfortunately not. I’m 17 and my parents still track my location and all I have to do is turn off my phone all the way or just turn it off through the app.

Warn her that disobedient children get downgraded tech until they’re mature enough to handle fancy tech. When she asks “what about my iPhone!? It’s cooked!” You say “Ohhh that was my phone, that I bought and let you borrow it. I decided to nuke that phone. If you want a new one, I hear ebay has low prices on refurbished models. Do you have any videos on tips/weaknesses of setting up an apple watch as a child's only phone? I'm searching for a solution for my 12 year old, don't want any browsers, social media, or Wi-Fi hotspot abilities. Right now I'm leaning towards a Sunbeam F1 feature phone but it doesn't seam to have gps tracking abilities for the parent. I have a series 6 (cellular) apple watch I could repurpose if it is a decent solution. My kid is clever about getting around parental (and even chromebook school IT) controls.
Curious if there is any other reason you don't suggest having an android phone when your child has an iPhone? I do all the screen time settings from their device and it seems to work great. Plus, I don't get notifications from the kids about time limit extensions and app requests ever!
Do you have a tutorial for setting up my child’s iPhone through the Google Family Sharing app? The app only gives instructions for setting parental controls using an Android or ChromeOS? Attempting to limit or remove access to TH-cam but he keeps downloading it!!

Phones are an addiction. If Adults battle through addiction imagine a child??? So yes sister and brothers this is for your own good because your parents love you. I convinced my mom to do the same for my little brothers because iPhones take a way a lot from your life period.
screen time restrictions can create bad trust in the relationship do not do this on any pre teen or teen unless it is absolutely necessary because of their safety. This could also lead to more sneaky kids and you always want your child to feel safe enough and to have trust in the parent to tell you things
I'm seeing other videos that don't talk about the pairing with the parent and child phone, they just do the settings directly in the child's phone, under the screen time setting, with a screen time passcode. What's the difference between doing it that way vs doing it paired with the parent phone? I don't have an iPhone.
You don’t need a different iphone. Your internet provider can show you search history even after it’s been deleted. All messages, even deleted ones, are available upon request from phone provider. Thank you for your tell me how screen time work, but I just want to know how to use my phone see my son screen time, I already done family sharing but I don’t see his screen time. I don’t know I missing something.
Can you limit an iPad's usage based on a time period instead of a set schedule? For example, can I limit an iPad to only be used for a few hours per day at any given point in that day or am I limited to specific scheduling?
Go to Settings > Screen Time. Tap App Limits, then tap Add Limit. Select one or more app categories. ... Tap Next, then set the amount of time allowed. ... When you finish setting limits, tap add. You can also use "downtime" With Downtime, you can block apps and notifications for specific periods when you want time away from your devices, or when you want to schedule time away for your child. When you schedule downtime, only phone calls and apps that you choose to allow are available. Downtime applies to all of your Screen Time enabled devices, and you get a reminder five minutes before it starts. If you set a Screen Time passcode, Downtime includes an additional setting, Block At Downtime. When you choose this setting and you select Ask For More Time when Downtime starts, entering the passcode allows you to approve the app for 15 minutes, an hour, or all day. For child accounts, your child can select One More Minute once, or click Ask For More Time to send their request to the parent or guardian account for approval.
Thank you for the very informative video. Just one quick question: will the child have the option of 'change screen time passcode' on their iphone, which is generally listed below 'Content & Privacy restriction'. Because after selecting it they can press 'forgot passcode' and then 'forgot apple password' and then change the Apple ID password after an one hour delay, which will might give control of the screen time feature. This is what happens when i put screen time on my phone, it shouldnt happen in family sharing, but wanted to confirm.
I've set this up and now my own iphone has restrictions on texts. When I get a text it has the hourglass and it says "not in your contacts" even though they are .. it allows me to "add the contact" to view the text on my phone but how do i turn this off on my parental phone?
So i did this with my child, but on their screentime on their phone, they still have the option to "turn off screen time family sharing" which negates the whole system. Any solutions to that?
As a teen myself who loves cybersecurity this is kinda funny. For screen time there is actually a device management profile that turns off the screen time through a cool bug in iOS. Also, the kids can just jailbreak the device through side loading. I used chimera jailbreak a couple years ago. Also did you just leak your number and Apple ID?
Why is it that when I'm adding another parent it's not giving me the option to set them as a parent? Everything online is saying it's supposed to lead me through it..... it's never asked either of us and we've deleted it and tried multiple times.
Hey, so I switched from the iPhone 14 Pro Max to the 15 Pro Max, and now the Family Share notifications aren't showing up on my iPhone anymore. They're all going to the Messages app on my MacBook instead. I'd like to get them back on my iPhone, but I couldn't find any settings for that. Any ideas?
@@nadirnazim9342 oh interesting. I spent 10+ yrs using Family Link and I find iPhone screen time way easier to manage my teen’s devices, once I figured it all out. We both love it. Specially the features of asking for more time on an app and the ability to communicate all around after downtime with the contacts I select.
I setup parent control years ago when my daughter was about 8 she found away to somehow change her Apple ID and password and used any app and all the screen time she wanted, this control system is not as controllable as we think parents.
When filling the day of birth after that it’s want to verified that I am the elder by filling in a creditcard that we don’t have. Maybe in the states everybody has one but not overseas. Now I can’t continue……
So when I’m setting this all up for my daughter and it’s asking me to make the “teen password.” Is that a password for me to know only? Or is that a password both my daughter and I should know?
I might be crazy but i suspect my roommate is reading my text messages and monitoring me. She does have parental control on her kids devices. She gave me a brand new iphone as a gift. Is there anyway i can tell if theres a monitoring app installed on my phone?
Hi..I setup parental control on my teenager's phone. He has his own apple id and I put downtime at 10pm -7am. For the allowed apps, I added mine and my hubby's contact from my contacts list. But when we check his messages, it shows both of ours messages locked as well. Could you tell me whats wrong?
@natehill5522 @ydevine2384 both of you jump to conclusions on what is being asked the question is easy yes or no. Because if it allows me to read them then it allows ex husband's to read our conversations. I want to know. So save your judgment till you got more facts. But I expect you must be a child who's brain isn't yet fully developed
My sister told me one of her daughters games is displaying inappropriate ads on a game rated four years old plus. Is there a way to block these inappropriate ads on a game intended for children?
Those suggestive ads are the worst. There’s nothing you can do with those unfortunately. Look for ad free games for you child to play instead. An Apple Arcade subscription is better
They are turning it off without you knowing or there is a problem with how you set it up. Your internet provider can show you search history even after it’s been deleted. All messages, even deleted ones, are available upon request from phone provider. Snapchat and TikTok will provide you with complete logs of who your child has been in contact with, messages, and every video they view. If they’re very young I’d check this without their knowledge. Hello! I need some help. I have a Motorola (android) and I AM not converting to an iphone just to be able to control my kid's iphone. CAN you please let me know if there are FREE apps that can give me full control of their iphone? I already set up the parental settings on the iphone BUT I used to use Family Link to have control when my child had an android and it was SO much easier to navigate. It's not so easy anymore.
@@FamilyTech sorry I didn’t explain. But I’ve realised the downtime schedule is fine. But when I add a 2h app limit (all apps) no apps are now working, even though my daughters usage has been 5 minutes today, and it’s not currently a downtime?
I followed this meticulously but can't get these controls to work at all. The kid's phone is unaffected regardless of the parental control settings. Staff at the Apple Store just told me that controls can't be used 13+ and advised setting up a new Apple ID using a false, younger age, which is precisely what you recommend against doing.
Same problem here.Did you solve it? Very frustrating..Everything worked fine until my 13 year old daughter found out that she could sign out from family sharing and screentime..(I have no idea why Apple let them have that possibility) Now I try and find a way to turn on screentime again (without her phone in front of me) She doesn’t want screentime at all and it’s almost impossible for me to get a hold of her phone without lots of drama..😱she’s currently on it way too much and this can’t continue. I have to find a solution now. Seems like changing her age from my phone can be an option. But she can’t get ant verification codes etc. Those have to go to my number. Thankful for any help!:)
@@HCK_Cat_ In my case, the controls started working roughly the way I hoped they would work about a day later. There was a delay. One possible explanation for the delay was that his phone wasn't connected to mobile service yet when I initially set it up and tested the controls. Your mileage may vary. I used his correct age, which was 14. One thing that wasn't clear from this video and other resources I found, is that some control procedures have to be managed on the kid's phone and some on your phone.

If you really need to sleep a point go in and completely delete Instagram, snapchat, etc. like literally go into the settings and delete the accounts themselves
Very helpful. I set this up, but my child is using my old phone with only an Apple ID and not a phone number. I can text and facetime between iphones, but it doesn't seem to notify me in any way for app install approvals. Not sure if that is because there is no phone number??
Why is it not letting me set my spouse as a parent? Everything online says it is supposed to give the option, it doesn't. We've deleted, tried from other devices, etc. Why???????
I need some help please! I set up for 2, 14 year old and I can’t figure out how to stop sharing are Apple ID, it says they can use there own but I can’t get it to work either they are having to ask for permission or they can’t add there card
Sorry. I'm not sure I'm understanding your setup. Your kids each have their own devices and their own apple ID signed into each of those devices? Your Apple ID should not be on their device.
My Apple ID is not on there phones but it does show up , they each use there own visa prepaid, debit cards on their accounts I need to figure out how they can still use those. I hope all this is making sense.
This video was super helpful! I’m having an issue downloading apps on the child’s iPhone though. When I click “get” it just continues to load/spin. I turned off the control for getting new apps to see if that was the problem. This is a brand new iPhone 14. Do you know what the issue may be? No matter what app I try to get her, it just keeps loading and never works. The phone is connected to WiFi and she has plenty of storage left.
It sucks. I may just return the phone. I read in several places that the child features on iPhone are glitchy. So frustrating when you’re gifting a kid a phone and then nothing works.
I have a daughter under my parental control and has a screen time setup. However, when she uses all of her time or when it’s downtime, she goes to her settings and changes the date/time, which overrides/bypass the screen time and she will have a whole new limit. So my question is, is there a way to block my daughter from changing the date/time in settings?
I have an android. But I just got my 10-year-old his 1st phone, an iphone. Is there any way I can monitor his iphone from my android? If anyone knows a video explaining how to handle this, please point me in the right direction.

Phones are an addiction. If Adults battle through addiction imagine a child??? So yes sister and brothers this is for your own good because your parents love you. I convinced my mom to do the same for my little brothers because iPhones take a way a lot from your life period.
Thanks it help it was easy , it goes straight to my phone to approve 😊apps
screen time restrictions can create bad trust in the relationship do not do this on any pre teen or teen unless it is absolutely necessary because of their safety.
Snapchat and TikTok will provide you with complete logs of who your child has been in contact with, messages, and every video they view. If they’re very young I’d check this without their knowledge. If they’re later teens I’d let them know you could find this all out if you wanted to but give some privacy
How do I add my child’s phone to my send and receive so I can see their texting activity/content on my phone?
I would not do this. They would also see your messages. And you can't login to one phone with 2 apple IDs
If you don’t want it done to yourself don’t do it to your child
Thank you for your tell me how screen time work, but I just want to know how to use my phone see my son screen time, I already done family sharing but I don’t see his screen time. I don’t know I missing something.
Same! I’m not sure why it’s not working
Can you limit an iPad's usage based on a time period instead of a set schedule? For example, can I limit an iPad to only be used for a few hours per day at any given point in that day or am I limited to specific scheduling?
Yes you can do this
@@RyanTheJenkshow can you do this? Concerned parent here.
Go to Settings > Screen Time.
Tap App Limits, then tap Add Limit.
Select one or more app categories. ...
Tap Next, then set the amount of time allowed. ...
When you finish setting limits, tap add.
You can also use "downtime"
With Downtime, you can block apps and notifications for specific periods when you want time away from your devices, or when you want to schedule time away for your child.
Thank you. This was very helpful. Very well explained.
I have set up screen time for mine and he still is able to be on TH-cam longer than the allowed time. How do I fix this?
take it off
Thank you for the very informative video.
I keep getting an error message when trying to confirm parental consent with my debit card. All information is correct. Don’t know what is wrong.
What’s the bug to turn it off lmao
@@zayaboy13 lmfao wouldn’t you like to know ;)

@zayaboy13 Lemme know when you find out!!!!
If my kid can figure this out. I’ll gladly allow them to hack their way out of it 😂
Why is it that when I'm adding another parent it's not giving me the option to set them as a parent? Everything online is saying it's supposed to lead me through it..... it's never asked either of us and we've deleted it and tried multiple times.
with screen time, when its blocked. can the phone be used for phone calls and texts?
You set which apps work when blocked. You can designate those if you want to
Can you use my icloud web site and track if I have an android?
Hey, so I switched from the iPhone 14 Pro Max to the 15 Pro Max, and now the Family Share notifications aren't showing up on my iPhone anymore. They're all going to the Messages app on my MacBook instead. I'd like to get them back on my iPhone, but I couldn't find any settings for that. Any ideas?
Need to know if you can send an alert since these damn kids leave the phone on silent. I didn't see that covered. That's very important to me.
Parent hack: only give them a flip phone.
Thank you for this super helpful video walk-through. Switching from Android to iPhone and everything is new.
My kid moved from android to apple. Screentime is garbage compared to android family
😮really? Oh My!!
When you mirror your child on the phone that is hooked up to only Wi-Fi can you do any changes on their phone with that phone
I have to use my Apple ID or I have to make a new one for my child?(she’s under 13😉)
When filling the day of birth after that it’s want to verified that I am the elder by filling in a creditcard that we don’t have. Maybe in the states everybody has one but not overseas. Now I can’t continue……
Can I parental control all these options from a macbook pro since is the only ios i have and both parents have android?
So when I’m setting this all up for my daughter and it’s asking me to make the “teen password.” Is that a password for me to know only? Or is that a password both my daughter and I should know?
How do I add the iPad? I have phone attached but the iPad isn’t? It has the same Apple ID
How can I allowed her to have one app that is restricted, is there’s a way. Ty
Can you make a video how to setup parental controls on an iPhone using an android or personal iPad without a parental iphone??
I might be crazy but i suspect my roommate is reading my text messages and monitoring me. She does have parental control on her kids devices. She gave me a brand new iphone as a gift. Is there anyway i can tell if theres a monitoring app installed on my phone?
Thank you I feel like every parent would appreciate this information. ❤

Hey, if you set a time for all apps. Does it give them that time individually for each app or does is it shared over the apps?
Each app have time individual
Is the child password and code created using the parent phone or on the child phone?
Hi..I setup parental control on my teenager's phone. He has his own apple id and I put downtime at 10pm -7am. For the allowed apps, I added mine and my hubby's contact from my contacts list.
But when we check his messages, it shows both of ours messages locked as well. Could you tell me whats wrong?
Does apple parental controls allow me to read my child's communication logs?
Ew
That’s sad
Bro what
@natehill5522 @ydevine2384 both of you jump to conclusions on what is being asked the question is easy yes or no. Because if it allows me to read them then it allows ex husband's to read our conversations. I want to know. So save your judgment till you got more facts. But I expect you must be a child who's brain isn't yet fully developed
Not that i know off.
Does the downtime automatically allow calls and texts?
Can you do this for a parent who has dementia..my dad keeps going to sites and getting hacked..
Yes
This was very helpful. I have not bought the kid one yet but this makes it easier. Good information. Thanks.
This was great to get my parents to get me an iPhone!! Tysm!
Dont allow those games. Boycott them and find better games
Very useful. Thanks a bunch!
Does anyone know what missing screen time means or what those grey bars are?
They are turning it off without you knowing or there is a problem with how you set it up. Your internet provider can show you search history even after it’s been deleted. All messages, even deleted ones, are available upon request from phone provider. Snapchat and TikTok will provide you with complete logs of who your child has been in contact with, messages, and every video they view. If they’re very young I’d check this without their knowledge. If they’re later teens I’d let them know you could find this all out if you wanted to but give some privacy. Snapchat is the biggest danger to teens. So many are exposed to explicit content from random people on there. They may even try and get your child to turn on their location on there.
Are both parents able to monitor and control children’s iPhones or just the parent who created the family share?
Either parent can do most things but only the “family organizer” can invite existing Apple accounts (and currently there can be only one organizer).
Its the parents who don’t know the child is 100x ahead of them 😂
100% of the 3rd party monitoring apps / services are totally compromised by the child installing a FREE VPN app.
Lol😂😂
Exactly bro
Relatable😂
When you look up this video bc ur mom keep trying to put parental controls
Unfortunately, there is nothing available with those features for free. Even the paid ones are not great for an android device to manage an iPhone.
I’ve set up down time to start 8pm until 8am yet it’s down during these times? I cannot work out why this is?
I don't understand your question. If downtime is set then yes, it will be down during those times.
@@mattcarroll2967 I see- thank you so much for your reply. Hopefully I’ll make it work somehow🙂Very frustrating not to have parental controls at the moment 📲
Is there any way you can view thier phone through urs?

How do you block them from downloading a app they previously had downloaded
Reset the password and don’t tell them it
If you really need to sleep a point go in and completely delete Instagram, snapchat, etc. like literally go into the settings and delete the accounts themselves
I don’t get the option to set up a child only myself . Why is that ??
Very helpful. I set this up, but my child is using my old phone with only an Apple ID and not a phone number. I can text and facetime between iphones, but it doesn't seem to notify me in any way for app install approvals. Not sure if that is because there is no phone number??
Si from 13 until 18 they can get all their data? And no more restriction?
No, you just have to invite them using the second method.
Is there any way that you can turn on the GPS for the child and they won’t be able to turn it off?
Unfortunately this is not a feature that Apple has allowed you to control.
Why is it not letting me set my spouse as a parent? Everything online says it is supposed to give the option, it doesn't. We've deleted, tried from other devices, etc. Why???????

Your child is always ahead and outsmarting you 😂😂

Can a child possibly delete the account entirely if they somehow get a hold of my phone?
You don't need an iPhone to iPhone. It can be easier. But you can get a plan through your cell provider and works the same.
