    It is ridiculous the number of times authorities use the "They're an adult" or even "teenagers run away" as a reason to not look into things more thoroughly.

      Right. I'd rather go looking for somebody that might have ran away and find them. Then to decide not to go looking and realize something terrible took place. Unfortunately I think it's financially influenced they think of it as a waste of tax dollars to be spent on somebody that might have left on their own accord.

      Especially when they are the kind of person who doesn't just run off, who doesn't randomly stop talking to friends or family who is a good kid and doesn't just go missing.
      If the cops just listened to the parents when kids like this go missing

    This makes me cry. One of my sons has similar vulnerabilities and all he wants is friends. It's terrifying and he's 27 now. So many vulnerable people for the nasties to take advantage of.
    My heart goes out to her father who really did all he could to keep her safe.

    One of Emma's very best videos, which is quite the accolade given the intrinsic high standard of her immense body of work; a wonderful mix of in depth psychological delving, meticulously researched facts, the ever present empathy & a pinch of much needed levity. Every one of her episodes has the power to broaden the mind & strengthen the soul.

      It’s a lot. I do short videos on tc topics rather than covering cases & I struggle to get something up every week.
      I’m actually very behind right now. I’m still getting my rhythm, but I can’t imagine doing two long form deep dives with all the photos & editing every week.
      I’m behind because of health & family stuff. But I know Emma goes through the same life pressures. Plus she was touring when this one came out AND she was secretly pregnant.
      Her work load is stunning.
      I don’t even aspire to put out the material she does. My goal would be the equivalent of one of her videos a week. I’d be proud of that accomplishment.
      I think she’s got some time freezing magical power or something else that changes the rules of physics.
      I watch a lot of tc TH-camrs & can’t think of anyone else who puts out so much high quality, well researched content. And, keeping her promise, no one is as consistent.

      I was wondering the same thing?? Ive watched several other true crime podcasts and they arent as detailed (truthfully or as correctly) as Emma's podcast are, generally speaking, most of the other ones don't have ALL of the facts In order, and theres missing Info.. it's like Emma gets every last little detail and puts it all together like the full puzzle..
      I am curious as to what Emma does for a living? If I had to assume, Emma has a Career where she works with victims on some serious level, and she just does her podcast on the side to get the awareness out there, and to help all of us be aware of certain red flags to help prevent something bad from happening to us or someone else if that makes sense..

    I think that the police had a very classist attitude at the start of this case. Cythia’s Dad is a biker. They lived in a trailer with lots of children.

    • @K8E666
      @K8E666 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I completely agree. The police had a poor perception of the family from Day 1. They seemed to have believed that because of her father being a biker, having lots of children and living in a trailer - which I believe is really commonplace in Alaska - that it somehow wasn’t a loving family home. It’s absolutely unacceptable for police officers to put their own personal beliefs above the appropriate policies that they’re supposed to adhere to…. In these circumstances, where a young person especially with learning disabilities goes missing, and it’s completely out of character, they should’ve been immediately alarmed and alerted the Detective division and the public and began an immediate investigation and organised a search. It wouldn’t have saved her life, but that’s not the point ! Their response was disgraceful and incredibly disrespectful to Ceci and her family…

    Just to comment on the bit about someone not being a pedophile because of their disability; I completely agree. I was a caregiver for intellectually disabled adults and some of the men I worked with were straight predators who never faced any punishment because of that. They know what they’re doing, and it’s sick to excuse it.

    Hello Emma!
    Could you analyse the case of Jodi Jones/Luke Mitchell from Scotland? its truly mind blowing case - think WM3 meet Adnan Syed meet Steven Avery. 14 year old boy is accused and convicted of brutally killing his girlfriend, she was stabbed almost 20 times, nearly decapitated and left in the woods. There was no DNA found on him ( he was taken to the police station 4 hours after she was allegedly killed), also there was no his DNA on her.she put up a fight but he had no bruises/scratches on him. 4 FULL DNA profiles were found on her but never really followed. He was labelled as satanist and accused of being a fan of Marilyn Manson hence the brutal murder ( Manson was obsessed with Black Dahlia murder). There was no motive and witnesses were giving conflicting statements. he's been in jail 20 years and recently was found that the police were secretly destroying the evidence ( victims nails etc) Looks like they are trying to hide something. Please please cover this case - its a rollercoaster and needs more attention xx

      What’s your thoughts on it all? I’ve watched loads of stuff on it, I’m not fully convinced he should be locked up. He got a hell of a hard time from the press, his mother didn’t come across too well but that doesn’t make him a definite murderer?
      Funnily (not very 😫) enough he’s in the same prison as my husband, I’m always asking if he’s ever came in to contact with him but it’s always a no. I don’t think anybody has done this case on here? Is it true he’s getting a retrial?

    Here in the U.S., if you’re arraigned on a felony charge in a district court you are required to plead not guilty. A not guilty plea is used as a placeholder because it can take a while to work out a plea deal especially in a complicated case such as this one. It does look like they’ll go to trial though. Either way it is a horrible case.

The lifetime consequences of these kinds of crimes against children are irreversible once the actual crime is committed. This kind of behaviour this guy showed before the crime should have major consequences to try and save children from having to live a life having suffered. Why our society does not seem to understand how important a child’s safety is astounds me.

    Emma, I would love to know your thoughts on people who have an attraction to children but choose not to act on it. I watched a documentary recently where several of them decided to move off the grid and away from society as to not be a danger to others. Is this something that you believe could be changed with therapy? Or is it like any other attractions

    • @rebeccamoore530

      In addition: not just physical things, including things like not consuming abuse materials etc

    • @invisibleghost85
      @invisibleghost85 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ticking time bomb imo you have different types of paedos some find the control in hurting children some believe the children are in love with them (is this a belief we change in them? i dont think so)..some are confused by the abuse they endured themselves as children and some it is their sexual preference 🤯. I just wish they would kill themselves personally if they cant control themselves but some of these people believe they are doing nothing wrong! Ive heard her speak briefly how other countries approach giving paedos help more openly adverts on tv etc.

      @@invisibleghost85 I was referring to people that refuse to act on their sick urges and keep away from society. No media, no contact with children at all. They don’t give themselves the opportunity to abuse children.
      I personally believe that it’s an attraction they just naturally have (because who would choose to like children) but if they’re steadfast in making sure they don’t hurt anyone, I don’t necessarily thing they’re bad people. But I do see the good in people more often than not

      @invisibleghost85 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rebeccamoore530 yh i understand that but I dnt think its that simple sadly there are different reasons behind but I think you re giving them too much credit in my mind tbh sometimes its hard for us decent ppl to believe that some ppl want to and enjoy hurting children its not merely an attraction when they enjoy the fear and pain they cause them..thats why I said ticking time bomb I believe its only a matter of time before that cross that line
