      @@PoM-MoM Deep space objects are mostly photographed with several different kinds of filtering involved. It is not like you will get to see a complete picture of a nebula that represents a "true" colour photo, as you would see in case you could approach the object close enough as to actually eye-ball it. It would probably not look the same then. But, as people, we like to see things in an appealing way.
      We cannot accumulate enough photons with our eyes, peering through an eye piece to perceive a faint nebula in "true" colours, so, we have to rely on instruments to accomplish that for us. Invisible wavelengths, like infra-red and ultra-violet, are part of the interesting spectrum that these objects emit, so, we do not want those images go to waste. Cameras can see these photons, but our eyes can't. That's where filters and software composition show up and perform their magic.
      We have no other option than to deceive ourselves that those beautiful pictures are the real thing. They are the best approximation of what we can do to image these wonders of nature.

    Nice work on Andromeda and Pleiades! You've definitely done better than I have with those targets! Congrats on a great night.
    Tip for keeping the condensation off of the camera in the refrigerator (or freezer) -- Keep the door closed while collecting your darks. When finished, quickly place the camera in a zip-lock bag, squeeze out excess air and seal until it is back at room temperature. Cooled air in a standard refrigerator is de-humidified -- Moisture condenses on the surfaces of cold objects when exposed to warmer moist air when the door is opened.
    Once again, Nice work!

    @paths1111 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great image! The dark current curve on the QHY 600 (and ASI 6200) is very flat below about 0 deg C, so you can probably use a higher temp. Going from -15C to -5C, you only add about 0.35 e- of thermal noise over a 180 sec exposure, which is 1 ADU if you are imaging at gain 56 in Mode #1 as we discussed a while ago. So essentially no difference.

    Hi!
    I Have a question about buying a telescope for astrophotography
    So i have a Canon 450d (APS-C) and a used Heq5 goto mount which i spent most of my money on and it's pretty much on my budget limit
    so i was wondering, should i buy a newton like 150/750mm f5 or 130/650mm f5 or maybe i should try to buy a refractor?
    I know that refractors are much lighter and easier to use and maintain and usually have really nice image quality, but for me newtons are way more affordable although i know that it needs more cleaning, and frequent colimation and they're heavier but i think it will not be a huge deal for me because I've been using one (dobsonian 8"), but I'm wondering if the quality of images from small newtons like 5-6" are good?, do you have any suggestions on which one should i choose for my first astrophotography telescope?

      Having a full frame camera makes a HUGE difference! I was myself surprised, but yes it's so much wider with a full frame. Reducer is 0.8x

    I'm thinking of buying a small piece of land up in Pahrump for this type of activity. It's pretty dark on the north side of town. Do you go out to Red Rock?

    • @GalacticHunter
      @GalacticHunter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the dream! Parhump is really dark indeed. No I don't go to Red Rock, slightly too light polluted in my taste. I believe it's Bortle 5 or so and it keeps on getting worse every few years.

    why did you cool down tha camera at home again? i don't get it..

    • @GalacticHunter
      @GalacticHunter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I cooled it down to the exact same temperature as it was when imaging so that I could take Dark calibration frames (to stack with the other frames and reduce the noise in the image)
