- Hurricane Beryl has been upgraded to a Category 5 hurricane in the Caribbean with sustained wind speeds at 160 mph. I’m in Cayman - it’s gonna be a horrible season - not sure what’s gonna happen
Well I was just looking at the Hurricane track and guess what. It's barreling stright for The Caymen Isles. The lesser Hurricane Ivan 2024 did a lot of damage apparantly. What I find most alarming is that there is no high point above 11 meters through out the Islands. So storm surge was a major problem with Huricane Ivan and I guess storm surge could be worse. Time to impact is decreasing by the minutes and the window of oppuninty to leave the potential impact Islands may close. Maybe about the time it hits jamaca or once the winds get too high. The Cayman Crocadillo Islands is one place I would not want to be right now or in a few days time. I would recommend you keep your eyes on it and look to know your escape routes of get out before the storm hits. It could swing north or south but meterologists seem to rule out a swing to the north due to a High Pressure area there. As the trend appears that they do not swing south then it looks like the track is definetly a direct hit.

Just like Charlie back in August 2004...came in fast and in minutes took a hard right into Florida as within minutes quickly turned into a Cat 5!
Hurricane Charlie was never a category 5. Don't spread false information.

dont worry it will be sheared before affecting Jamaica, actually i only predict tropical storm force winds in Jamaica not hurricane force. the storm is very compact which is good, hurricane force winds only extend 35 mules from the center
TS to Cat 5 in 2 days. Wow. It'll weaken, but this thing is headed for Texas. Models are not accounting for rapid intensification and will probably hit Texas as at least a Cat 1. Good luck with getting insurance next year.

El Niño officially ended last month. And there is typically more wind shear in the Atlantic during El Niño, so not as many hurricanes form and they typically aren’t as strong.

Is it Fox News. I have no idea where they got cat 5 from as my charts show no cat 5. Not substained winds or 150mph plus. Not unless they are reading erroneouly wind gusts which are showing of 150 to 160mph. But using substained wind readings it is only just a very low end cat 4. But still those low end cat 4 substained winds of 130mph are classed as a major hurricano storm. Strong enough to rip roofs off.

Also this is from the NHC, and recon found winds consistent with category 5. Sorry.

@@Saltydied1 Having a basic understanding of how high water temperatures are high octane fuel for Hurricanes makes you better than both the NOAA and the NHC. I knew it was going to both intensify AND move further northwest than predicted due to the winds shifting northeastwards.

@kbrown5218 We have geology to tell us a pretty accurate history of our climate. And climatologists from ExxonMobil made forecasts of their contributions to clime change that were so accurate that it even stunned scientists, the information is out there, friend. :)

The predictions on what category it would become has been completely wrong. There was no such talks of cat 5 a day ago and now it is a cat 5. Goes to show how hot ocean temperatures has gotten.
