Beautiful property Micah. I hope your fox video turns out well. That is something I have never seen in the wild. So sorry about your chickens. Mary as LOVELY! She will make a wonderful mom to that baby
Not the topic of vid...but I noticed the garden looks really good, 23 years watching the foxes...guess they should stay???? Maybe thin a few, cause I love eggs. and thanks for stopping by channel, Have a great day.
I really enjoyed the video ! We have have raised chickens for years but we have never hatched any out because we don't keep a rooster . I have never eaten any of those mushrooms before . I seen other people hunting them . We got a little sneak peak of your garden . Loved the big old oak tree . The oak tree that we got are compost from would have made that oak look like a baby .
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures I hate to hear that . We have a hard time keeping chickens unless we keep them penned up by the house . I had a greenhouse built on the side of my house the whole length . That's were mine stay .
We picked our very 1st Chantelle mushrooms this year I had never picked or tried them until this year I do believe they are only second to oyster mushrooms in my book. My wife loves morels but oyster are my favorite
A fox tore into our hen house, and slaughtered all our chickens too. Can't blame the foxes - I blame myself for not making the hen house more secure. Lessons learned! 🐔 Forgot to mention - all of ours were Rhode Island Reds - THE BEST CHICKENS EVER!
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures They were great hens. Followed me EVERYWHERE around the yard, and especially loved 'garden time' when we were weeding. LOL!!
I have a Peking Duck on my property! Someone dropped him/her off on the lake I live on. Do you think if I got some babies this older duck will nuture/care/protect them? I think it was someone's pet and it grew too big.
I started with 24 chickens on half an acre when I was 14! I think wherever you are you should have egg layers. The meat is a by-product of excess roosters and retired hens!
Good story. Best
I love foxes, but screw that!

Aaric Hale thanks brother! I hope we can get these foxes to slow down on our chickens they’re about to clean us out!
Aaric Hale hatching out your own chickens is so much fun! It makes you feel almost self-sufficient ha ha!

@@McGieHomesteadAdventures I have wanted to try but hate a rooster .
Aaric Hale i’m probably going to have to go back to 100% caged birds but I didn’t want to LOL

@@McGieHomesteadAdventures and now we know they are tasty... 🤣
Nice 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
are you growing squash with the plastic mulch cover.. thinking about that..
Yes we grow lots of vegetables on plastic…… weeds are terrible here!
what an awesome life!!
Very true!

RiFF RaFF yes I hear you! We recently strengthened ours. I was attempting to get some to survive outside.... but it probably won’t happen 😒
RiFF RaFF I wanna try some Rhode Island Reds! I’ve always been a Buff Orpington man, but I’m definitely gonna try R.I. Reds!
@@McGieHomesteadAdventures They were great hens. Followed me EVERYWHERE around the yard, and especially loved 'garden time' when we were weeding. LOL!!
I have a stupid question but why don`t you just keep them all cooped?
We like to have both cooped and uncooped in order to keep feed cost down…… however we’ve been evolving since this video was made years ago.

I don’t know if it would protect them ...... but you could keep them in a pen until they could make it on their own!
What did you call those mushrooms?
Chanterelle mushrooms

What other edible mushrooms grow on your or your neighbors property?
I don’t know all of them, but I have a few in a mushroom playlist on this channel!
can a rooster fight off a fox.. I thought i've seen a video where that happened..
I think it’s possible
What are your thoughts on raising chickens in suburbs?
I started with 24 chickens on half an acre when I was 14! I think wherever you are you should have egg layers. The meat is a by-product of excess roosters and retired hens!
Cage the fox and move him far away he will be back.
If he gets caught he won’t be turned loose!😂
