    Someone has already said it but anytime I sink deep into a subject and realize I'm probably looking far too deep into something than whats needed for the exam, your series always helps me get back on track. I'm on track to take my Network+ next month so thank you very much Prof! :)

      Amazingly Awkward how did it go? I am studying for mine.

      @@StevenSoto I passed! Barely scraped by with about 9 marks above but a pass is a pass! Best advice is to practice practice practice. Examlabs is a good website that has free questions and very worth investigating in an Exam Cram book. The Examlabs and Exam Cram questions will highlight your weak spots.

    This series has been very helpful so far, I also like the subtle Diablo 3 reference as well!

    I'm a little unclear in something . what does the /8,/12,/16 after the subnet mask correlate to . what is that used for? Also, this only relates to private addresses and translating them over the network using NAT correct ? We do something different to determine the subnet of a public ip address right ? Havent got to that video as I'm sure its coming just want to make myself more clear on understanding this video . Thanks !

      Those are the CIDR-block notations associated with the subnet mask, and they specify the number of bits of a subnet mask. For example, a /8 is equivalent to a 255.0.0.0 subnet mask.

    • @nolanmarshallharris
      @nolanmarshallharris 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@professormesser does this only correlate to private address or does this mean if any ip add. has a CIDR block of /8 it will always have a subnet of 255.0.0.0? Thanks for your reply .

    • @professormesser
      @professormesser  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, /8 is always 255.0.0.0.

    What I find confusing about the subject of NAT is, does NAT implies that there are less than 4.29 billions routers on earth ? Does that mean that each router as a unique IPv4 address on the internet ?

    • @professormesser
      @professormesser  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes, each device directly connected to the Internet has a unique IPv4 address.

    Has anyone been successful or can give me their experience in passing the network plus using just professor Messer videos, labs , and his notes and of course the exam objectives. ? I'm taking my own handwritin notes and may purchase some labs to practice on. I'm very grateful for these videos and he makes them bareable , not like a dry lecture. Thanks Professor Messer !

    Question: When 'Ports' are mentioned, are these TCP or UDP ports? As I don't believe the IP layer supports ports??

    • @professormesser
      @professormesser  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The port references are specific to TCP and UDP ports, which are commonly associated with IP traffic.
