- A puppy named Rocket is expected to make a full recovery after suffering horrific injuries and abuse by his owner, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Heroic NYPD officers Kelsey Garcia, Vincent Caprino and Joseph O'Shea, who rushed the puppy to a vet after it was thrown off of a ledge, join NewsNation's "Ashleigh Banfield exclusively in their first national interview to discuss their rescue of Rocket.

Remember, a dog has the intelligence of a 2-3 year old human child. They have emotions and feel pain just like we do. We need stronger animal cruelty laws with stiff penalties. The current laws are inadequate and don't have sufficient policies.

Rocket is the cutest poodle I've ever seen. Starting out as a young kid, I've been taking in discarded dogs and a few cats all my life. It hurt my heart to hear of this. Thankfully Rocket shouldn't have trouble getting a new family and home. Thanks, Officers.

2 days before she attacked a man with a knife...
"Rocket was suffering from numerous injuries by the time police got there, including a traumatic brain injury, a fractured femur, a broken jaw, and severe organ damage.
Body cam footage from police shows cops cradling the pooch, and rushing him with lights and sirens to the nearest ASPCA hospital.
Meanwhile, the dog’s owner, who was arrested and hit with animal abuse charges, admitted to cops that she abused the dog - two days after she threatened a man with a knife.
“I threw my dog off a ledge,” Cleopatra Morgan said, according to a criminal complaint. “I slammed him side to side into the concrete. I stepped on his skull.”
The court documents reveal no motive for Morgan’s attack on the dog.
Another criminal complaint revealed a man who was a victim of her violent streak.
Two days before the dog attack, Morgan, 26, was arrested and charged with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon after allegedly threatening a man with a knife.
“I am going to f-king kill you,” she told the man while waving the knife along W.163rd St." - New York Post

My service dog is a moyen poodle. They are so smart and loyal and loving. Idk how you can do this to any animal, but especially a teddy bear who loves people. :( Thank you rescuers, can hear the fear for him in their voices, they did great!

I always hope that if I ever have an emergency with my service dog, that I’ll have first responders like this who are willing to help. I still don’t understand why there isn’t an official way to dial _11 for an animal emergency. The ASPCA won’t respond immediately in emergencies when you call their hotline. There is a private company that started a pet ambulance service and will go a very long distance in the tri-state, but they only have 20 ambulances and it costs hundreds of dollars that so many people can’t afford (even though it’s worth every fraction of a cent and offers the same class of care and equipment a human ambulance offers). I would totally vote for a mayor and/or state senators who makes it the law for pet insurance to work more like people insurance - and in the case of task trained service dogs who are medical equipment according to the law (just like wheelchairs, canes, etc.), get covered by the human’s insurance (including Medicare/medicaid policies) for routine and emergency services (including the cost of ambulance/transportation, vet, medication, and all other non-emergency supplies like food, protective and other gear needed for the dog to work, enrichment and training supplies, etc), which is no different than the cost of some 5-figure wheelchairs and the costs of maintenance/repairs that is covered). Where is the politician in NYC/NY State and/or the federal government who is going to make all of this a reality once and for all?! These officers are proof that people really value and respect animals (except for a few rare abusers here and there) and consider them family. Why are they not treated like our family when it comes to claiming taxes or getting other types of benefits?!
I really hope that officer gets the dog. She deserves to take Rocket if she wants him. And if not her, one of the officers involved should get first dibs to adopt him. Maybe once he recovers, he might even be the right temperament to get trained to become an NYPD honorary comfort dog - that would make a horrible situation into something beautiful that gives this dog a special purpose. Just an idea.

This happened in manhattan. The puppy's name is Rocket. The owner is 26 years old. She threw rocket off the ledge and then called 911. She told the officers that, "she snapped." Luckily, Rocket did survive and is said to make a full recovery. The vet said that, "Rocket was very, very lucky to have survived and that they were surprised he didn't die from his injuries." The owner, 👹 🤢 🤮 26-year-old Cleopatra Morgan, was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, criminal possession of a weapon, and false personation.

I feel for this puppy deeply. Now so many people want to adopt him, that is a good thing. How about all those dogs/cats/others that are in a shelter and kill shelter. How about stepping up and SAVING A LIFE there. There days are literally numbered. Go and ask to see the ones who will be killed today or tomorrow and work your way backwards. You don't think they know what is coming. Hey they run on instinct, they smell the fear in the air, the death, they feel the negativity in the air. They want out more then you can imagine. Go to a shelter, save a life, just remember an animal is for LIFE as is a child. Know you will be with this sole for many years to come, good or bad, days, week, etc. They will depend on you, you do not change your mind and return them, that will actually put them closer to death being brought back, it is a mark against them. This little puppy will get a new home, now go give a new FOREVER home to an animal that has the clock ticking, GO!
