    Hi Kaisa, another great tutorial! Have you stopped publishing videos on TH-cam?

    I am in the 5th day of my trial period using C1. Currently, I am using DXO's Photo Lab and Affinity Photo as my primary tools. Having used PS and LR, the first thing I noticed is the tools are on the left side. As with anything new, a person either sticks with the change or gives up.
    Being a curious person I was determined to dive into C1 to see what it had to offer. I started with C1's Webinars (David Grover) which, as it turned out, are outstanding. I came across a tutorial you have on TH-cam ( I don't remember which one it was) and it dealt with a skill ( perhaps Color Grading) that I wanted to learn how to use in C1 so I figured I'd watch it. It was so very helpful. Your teaching style is wonderful. Techniques and the how-to's are very easy to follow. Yes, it was Color Grading because I remember watching it twice so I could pause the tutorial and practice the technique on C1 and then enter notes in Evernote. (Having 2 monitors makes all that not so difficult. 😄) I've watched several of your tutorials and have subscribed to your channel.
    Between your tutorials and David Grover's webinars, I'm getting more and more comfortable working with C1. Thank you very much Kasia for the valuable guidance you are providing. I will certainly be going through your other tutorials-so much to learn and not enough time to learn it all.

    You are my primary teacher for photo editing. Giving a plan and a reason for edit is priceless. I have been editing a photo with 4 children ready for a wedding taken in the strong California, USA sun. The children are partly in shade, with almost spotlight sunbeams around them and partly on them. I have tried brush correcting, but end up with color shifts that make this terrific photo look processed. Would you consider a tutorial on very mixed light editing? and thank you for your excellent teaching.

    By the way: you can right click on a Style Brush from the list to create a new layer for an already used style brush. Good if you want to make adjustments with this brush but set the opacity differently.
    Thanks for your constantly good work. Very much appreciated. So sorry that you discontinued producing new videos.

    I used to be a Darktable user. The dynamic way of the brush tool did make me change to Capture One. The style brushes even make it better.

      Yes, you can implement them nicely in any workflow. I use them too when it makes sense. Fast results they produce make experimenting fun :)

    When you choose the saturation style brush it makes a filled color wheel donut in the advanced color editor which looks different from the one you get hitting the plus sign. You can move the dot inside. Have you done creative experiments with this?

      I’ve noticed the strange color wheel, haven’t worked much with it yet. Thanks for the suggestion Monica!

    Red skin reduction brush ALWAYS makes things worse (harsher red tone) rather than better. I always need to adjust this manually to get the correct effect.

  • @randall8496

    I think C1 goofed again naming things, as they did with the so-called 'Skin Tone' tool, which has a broader application than simply blending blotchy faces. I love these new custom local adjustment brushes that can be saved, linked to an automatically created layer, and used again and again. But I think it was a mistake to label them 'Style' brushes as such. This little moniker is already causing confusion because it mixes apples with oranges. Custom local adjustments are not what we usually think of when discussing styles and are only indirectly related in the same sense. Sure, they can group adjustments for a particular brush in one fell swoop but still are horses of another color.
    That's why Kasia says she would not be crying for their absence. But I think if anyone applies the following suggestions, and appreciates the convenience of the new features, all taken together, I believe at least a few tears would slide down their cheek.
    Suggestion#1: Replace all of the built-in brushes with brushes of your own, same or similar adjustments, tweaked or identical, no matter. At least then you will understand perfectly what is being applied whenever you use one. Invent your own name for them. THIS is a learning exercise and will enable the last step of the following suggestion.
    Suggestion#2: Find the folder where the brushes are stored and create/name your own subfolders, if you want to better organize your own brushes and display them just like the built-in ones, displayed under various subheadings (OPTIONAL). After you've replaced all the canned brushes (thank you C1 for providing some good templates), you can delete them entirely and, in another fell swoop, avoid the possibility of any lazy editing a la Luminar.
    Suggestion#3: Create a floating tool that contains only your custom brushes, collapse it, drag it to an empty space on the Toolbar above the Viewer and leave it there permanently (I've been doing this from the beginning and find it quite handy; I barely notice the tool's presence otherwise, as there is ample space above the viewer window to tuck it away discretely, even on my tiny laptop). That way you can grab a brush at any time (simply collapse the tool after selecting one), without having to fuss or fiddle with any other tool tabs you currently have open to view. You will already know what the brush does under the hood (right?) and can go immediately to the source to make any tweaks for a given image (which more often than not will be the very tool tab you already have open anyway).
    One final thought and Suggestion#4:
    Masks were red, now they're blue.
    Kasia does it, so we must too
    Monkey see, monkey do.
    Good morning, Kasia. Recovered now from my hangover and once again in full form! :D
    P.S. I never should have said bad things about my little Fuji X100F. It heard me and, feeling rejected, somehow unhitched its little case hanging from the motorcycle, somewhere along a 400-kilometer stretch of the Mexican Gulf Coast; and met its end alone, beneath my wheels at 130 KPH or so and without my even being aware. Q.E.P.D.

      Ahahahahaa "blending blotchy faces" - that made me laugh loud :D
      Seems I need to plan in advance my videos, so I will have a chance of consulting them with you Randall. Right now I'm quite busy and mostly recording / editing / publishing on the same day. But if you are willing to take a look at future vid ideas - I will be happy to hear from you suggestions. And then I will make my masks to match your favourite color. Deal?
      You will soon have an army of people riding a little behind you and collecting all the lost money, left behind gear and dropped equipment...

      @@KasiaZmokla Well, I don't what to say to that, Kasia (at least nothing that the robots would approve), but I have to admit . . . blue isn't really working out for me. :|

    • @KasiaZmokla
      @KasiaZmokla  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@randall8496 It depends on an image, I was working on a portrait with saturated orange / green tones. Blue was the best pick.

    • @randall8496
      @randall8496 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KasiaZmokla I knew that, but you got me started and I'm sticking with BLUE. I'm stubborn. Besides, it's lazy to leave the mask visible while dodging anyway, like tossing coins in a fountain with your eyes closed, while making a wish, IMO. To that end, I dragged my worthless Wacom tablet from my saddlebag to give it another go all alone (since nobody wants to help ). But so far it just looks cool sitting there and I'm content. I still haven't tried using it again.

      @@randall8496 What's so tricky about Wacom? Use it for a few days and you won't believe you've ever managed to dodge and burn with a mouse.
