You forgot to mention that the guy with Dick Miller was Jonathan Haze aka Seymour from the original LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS. According to Haze the heckling he and Miller did of Don Rickles wasn't scripted, but instead Roger Corman pulled the two aside and told them to heckle Don, who didn't know it was going to happen and he got legit angry at them.

Nice catch. I did actually completely miss that one. And that would have been a great tidbit for the trivia section. I can so imagine Rickles getting huffy over that.

In late 1966, when I was 9 years old, I read the paperback novel the film was based upon. At the end of the book, the protagonist does indeed declare, "I can still see!". (Among other horrors!) That scared the living bejesus out of me and I threw the book down screaming! Had nightmares for weeks. It was the first adult level novel I read cover to cover. I was hooked on sci-fi novels after that. Though, I stayed away from horror stories thereafter. I have never seen the film. Thanks for covering it for us!

My personal favorite, of his many performances, was as the leading man in the classic 1944 haunted house movie The Uninvited, where he played opposite Gail Russell and Ruth Hussey (from The Philadelphia Story). I think he steals Paulette Goddard from Wayne and Wayne dies. That left a bad taste in my mouth. Wake of the Red Witch had John Wayne paired with Gail Russell. Another sea faring adventure. Great episode, thanks. I think I saw this film at some point, but I know Ray Milland from a lot of other films, especially "The Lost Weekend," which caused me to stop drinking for a couple of days. I know I saw the Golden Key Comic on the rack somewhere, but my parents forbade from owning comic books so I just read every one I could get my hands on at my cousins' and friends' houses. I agree with you, Carnival scenes in SciFi films are always a lot of fun and the presence of Don Rickles here makes it special. I have to check this one out soon. I remember watching X: The Man with the X-ray Eyes at the Fulton theater in Jersey City on Jackson Avenue. It was a matinee (25 cents!) and I was very disappointed because I thought there would be many sci-fi elements (as at the time, I was a typical sci-fi fan) but it was more a "human" drama than I liked. It turned me off Ray Milland for years. I didn't remember that it was a Roger Corman film. Now I will rewatch it as homage to Mr. Corman, sooo instrumental in the film careers of sooo many actors and directors. If you do make a Roger Corman retrospective, check out: "Crab Monsters, Teenage Cavemen, and Candy Stripe Nurses Roger Corman: King of the B Movie" by Chris Nashawaty, an Abrams art book. John Landis writes the introduction. Copiously illustrated with continuous quotes from many of his film progeny, it was an homage to Corman. Published in 2013, it is a true find for Corman fans. I hope you can find a copy. Thanks for the great efforts you make in keeping alive these films!

Actually, the original movie was to be called THE MAN WITH THE X-RATED EYES, and Corman chose Ray Milland after his having appeared in THE THING WITH TWO HEADS, for reasons that are not necessary to explain, especially as this was to be part of a double feature.
The original "special drops" weren't eye drops, and were produced by Mr. Milland after much hand-wringing. Dick Miller was in the cast, due to the relevance of his first name to a movie like this, and Don Rickles was chosen because he was known as Mr. Warmth, which is sometimes needed when shooting scenes for this type of film. If this movie had been produced, RS would likely have rated it 3 bottomless popcorns.
Rusty was also scheduled to do a bit part but found himself unable to detach himself from the pony, who wished to remain nameless until the contest was over--but that's a horse of a different color. The old term "Toy Roundup" is nowadays translated as "shoplifting."

We have Bon Marche here in the UK but they sell clothes - are they the same company? This was lovely vid - loved the comedy. Not enough comedy in vids nowadays - why the 'a' in nowadays? Surely it's a quicker way of saying now days - but it has an extra letter - I blame you wacky Americans for that one. @@AtomicSnackBar Yes, but as I recall some of the episodes are lost. The sound quality on some episodes is so bad, you can't even hear it at all. The episode that stands out to me the most is one where a man traps Markham out on a terrace with the intent to kill him. Markham finds a way to escape and eventually turns the tables on the man and traps him on the terrace. You think Markham is going to leave him to die out there in the freezing cold, but late at night when Markham is in bed, he decides to call the police and tell them about the man on the terrace, thus saving his life.
