Notes for this video: 1. Apologies if you can hear a slight "thumping" sound during the video introduction; I had my fan on and didn't realise it was blowing slightly towards the microphone at the time! 2. I realise that I forgot to mention in the introduction the setting up of the Driver Safety Device (DSD) by pressing CTRL + D. I also forgot to mention the destination display, which was set up using the F8 key. 3. I have captioned in all crossings, tunnels, and junctions found in my UK railway track atlas. Some crossings appear in the game that don't appear in my book, and vice versa. Hence you will see some crossings without a caption. 4. As always, I sounded the horn at every W post I noticed - but some got missed, usually when looking down at my notes rather than at the track ahead! 5. Unfortunately, on the Great Western Main Line from Reading to Paddington the frame rate isn't as good as on the rest of the route so you will see some lag. This is unavoidable due to the level of AI traffic on that section of the route, and the number of assets used in the route building process. 6. The stop markers at Exeter St David's don't quite match between the two routes where I switch scenarios, so the train appears to jump forward a bit towards the end of the platform when I load the next scenario. 7. Please see the video description for my PC specs and the DLC used in this video - excluding the trains used in the AI traffic. 8. You can find a full copy of the notes used on this journey on my Facebook page - facebook.com/PTGRail - with some typos! 9. I have added the times in the video for all of the stops, which you can find in the video description. This makes it easier to find a particular stop or section of the journey, 10. Finally, I hope you enjoy this video! I know it's crazy long and I'd never expect anyone to watch it all in one sitting. This video represents around 40-hours of work to put together, and I hope it shows in the quality of the production.
Currently flying from Johannesburg to Heathrow in flight sim with about 6 hours remaining, so what a lucky coincidence I just found this! Looks like I have something to watch until I land. Also, I've been super, super excited to watch this one! As someone who has watched your entire ECML video twice now, I'm super excited to watch this one. Also, well done on making this one too. I know it must take a lot of work to make these extra long videos, but it's definitely worth it if you ask me! :D Edit: Just finished watching it, and it was as enjoyable as I was hoping for! Well done on doing such a long video, and I can't wait to see the next, but I think it goes without saying that you definitely deserve a break after that one first. XD
Love this video, I spent a year living and working in Redruth and did the lenght of this line many times during the year I lived there. I could hear the night sleeper to London hauled by a class 50 go through at 22:15 most weekday nights, and the night train from London used to rumble through around 7:15. Great video!!
Class 802s are the variants of which have uprated engines The 800/3s have larger fuel tanks, but as far as I can find or am aware, they do not have uprated engines. The Class 80x trains have 750 hp per engine, whereas the Class 802s have 940 hp per engine!
Love this route. Many years ago lived in Camborne, used this and the route to the Midlands many many times, using Class 50s and then HSTs. Best bits of the journay was Exeter - Teignmouth and then the Albert Bridge
Just got around to watching this (in stages) I actually prefer the Main Line stuff. I have a bias towards ECML traffic, but respect to GWR. Haha. Again, a fantastic achievement Peter. Many thanks for this. 👍

Very excellent. Video 125 have this route also, as Penzance to Exeter and Berks and Hants. I'll really enjoy your version also esoecially your clear announcements of line speed.
Thank you for doing this route PTG! I love this route as the class 800 is so nice and love the variety of scenery especially around Dawlish and Cornwall, and also that you stopped at Plymouth which is my city! Again thank you for doing this route and take care :)
Excellent video, but I don't think i'm gonna be able to watch all of it haha but i mean, to research all of this and put it together: WOW. great job! Also, as a nice short follow-up, sometime soon: maybe could we have Reading-Newbury in the GWR 387?
I do love your videos as very informative, could I make a suggestion? how about doing a run from the depot (if applicable) to the first station or from the last station back to the depot, this run was maybe a good chance to that. Only a thought. Many thanks
So no kamikaze buses this time? (chuckle) Nice to see Bodmin Parkway again, though from the 'normal' platforms this time, as I've seen it from going on a trip on the Bodmin & Wenford (steam heritage) railway a couple of times when on holiday in the region over the past 20 years. Any chance in doing the same for the West Coast Main Line, but instead of with the current rolling stock (Pendalios?), using the legendary (or infamous) Advanced Passenger Train APT-P that you used in your popular 'Preston to Carlisle' route video. I don't suppose it could also used the APT's faster-running speed limit system, maybe even a chance to 'break' its own record in real life from Euston to Glasgow run? :-)
Totnes. A green signal at E1R means you are routed through the main lines. That is, you’re not platformed. Now on a stopping service, that’s tea and biscuits! The real sequence is a flashing yellow where you have the route set into the platform E1 signal will be displaying a single yellow with route indicator 1 lit. Or a single yellow at E1R with a red a E1 protecting the station. If routed into the platform this signal will clear with the junction indicator 1 illuminated. The signalling sequence on your video is for trains not stopping at the station. It’s odd that a “simulator” makes up the signal sequence as opposed to simulate what really happens. Normal braking point for Totnes is the 3 arch bridge before E1 to give a smooth deceleration. Brakes on modern traction are good, but you wouldn’t want to leave it as late as sighting E1 to come down to 25, especially in leaf fall!
Could I put in a vote for Glasgow Queen Street to Mallaig, rather than the other way round? I recently did the journey starting at Fort William, but I’d love to see the journey on a sunny day concluding with the glorious stretch to Mallaig, which I did on the Jacobite steam train.
A great video, and wonderful attention to detail, as well as great investment of time to link everything together. I am a very new TSW3 gamer, and was intrigued how you knitted together routes that do not exist in TSW3 to make a great journey. Have you considered a video on that process? I looked at the Just Trains site, and can see some of the adds-on you used, but it doesn't show how they are then accessed ... even if you don't have time to do so, I love your work!
Great Video, wish I had your dedication to train simulator, I will point out that even with your "high-end" PC specs, I noticed several lag spikes throughout the video, is this a general stability issue with TSC? or to do with the abnormally long and heavily detailed route? or due to the amount of A.I. traffic involved?
Okay, so get this: My nan's on this train, right? And after they roll out of Werris Creek (australia), things start getting a tad intense. It's like the train's suddenly possessed, zooming down the straights. We're not talking a quick sprint; this thing is keeping up a solid 160km/h - and it's not just for a quick thrill, this speed's hanging around like an unwelcome guest. The staff are doing this frantic relay race in and out of the cab, pretty much begging the driver to put the brakes on, at least a little. You can just picture their faces, all wide-eyed and probably thinking, "This ain't part of the job description!" And the train? It's swaying and rocking like it's grooving to its own crazy rhythm, except nobody on board feels like dancing. Let me just switch to a calmer tone for a sec: The tracks where they were at can handle trains speeding up to 160km/h, so technically, he wasn't breaking the laws of physics or anything. But it's like he was testing the limits just because he could. Now, here's where it gets a bit more serious. Once you're heading north of Maitland, there's this strict 120km/h limit because of the level crossings - safety first, after all. And I've heard of drivers occasionally pushing maybe 5-10km/h over to make up some time, especially if they're running behind schedule. But this guy? He was absolutely smashing that, way beyond the usual 'making up time' speed. It makes you think, doesn't it? Quite the nail-biter of a trip for my nan, and honestly, a bit too much excitement for my liking!
Just bought the AP 801-803 thanks to this video, well combined with the fact the 801s have grown on me a lot. Love the way your TS looks, what scenario time/weather settings do you recommend?
I was only joking with a friend about making a video on that journey yesterday! 😅 Alas, it’s not currently possible in TS. But even if it was, I’m not convinced I’d do it lol XD
Someone might correct me on this if I’m wrong, but I’ve been told by a Southeastern driver that they’re incredibly strict on the speed limits, and breaching by only a couple of mph can get you a meeting with your manager.
Great job - very well done! I can't help thinking that the HST would have been doing 125 on a lot of that route from Exeter eastwards and particularly on the Taunton to Reading stretch. It's the first time I've seen that line in it's entirety and I'd had no idea it was of such good quality. How much time has been added to that journey by using a slower train and how on earth were they allowed to effectively downgrade those West Country services?
Max 110 for a few streches between Taunton and Reading, no 125 until after Reading. Exeter to Taunton is 100mph (just north of Cowley Bridge Jn) and the line diverging at Cogload junction is 90 around the Curve. Same speeds applied to both HST and 80x
just a quick question from a complete newbie so sorry if this is obvious. The Armstrong power house class 800 - 803 enhancement pack listed above, does this include the train or is this an addon for another product. Thank you in advance.
Great video, How did you create this total route when you have to add 3 separate routes together? Also where did you buy the class 800 train from (not the enhancement package).
You need to buy the ECML London-Peterborough route which will give you the class 801 then you can buy the enhancement pack which will give you the 800/802/803 aswell.
Great Video! I am looking around at the Download site but I can't tell if the game in the video is the steam Train Simulator or is it a different game made for the packs? Would like to know and yet again great video! The Class 800's are really nice I took a GWR train from Cardiff To London earlier this year. They are really nice and comfortable for the long journey
The game is Train Simulator Classic on Steam. I’ve used quite a lot of DLC, along with third party enhancements and freeware routes in this video. But the base game in Train Simulator Classic on Steam. And thank you! :)
I couldn’t help but draw comparisons between the two videos - as this is only the second time I’ve driven a journey of this length for the channel! WCML Glasgow to London, and West Highland Line Mallaig to Glasgow are the next two big video projects I hope to work on in the future.
Hey PTG. How did you manage to create a custom scenario with the AP Class 800? Whenever I try on Career Mode, I can't spawn the 800s or when I do it on Quick Drive, whenever I try to save changes (mostly adding more trains) the changes are erased once I reload the scenario from the menu. Its very annoying and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to fix it.
Couldn't you have driven the whole journey without having to create 3 different scenarios by using the JT full collection, letting you drive all the way from Paddington to penzance without having to stop
Using the JT Western Main Lines you can drive all the way - but only via Bristol. Very few Penzance services to London go via Bristol, so I had to change routes. Even then, I’d still do it in more than once scenario - if something goes wrong, or I screw up and have to reload from a save (which doesn’t always work), I’d have to start driving the journey all the way from Penzance again! 😅
Alas, a train journey takes as long as it takes! I could have split this into three parts, but felt one part would be better - like my Edinburgh to London video lol
Yes tea and biscuits is railway slang that drivers use for having a few serious words with the manager’s. So for example they “I’m going to have tea and biscuits with the manager’s” instead of “I’m going into a meeting with the manager’s” as all drivers know what you are talking about when they use the tea and biscuits slang.
absolute gigachad
The fact he drove the full 5 hours is mad

1:29:44 where did you get those sounds of the HST?
just a quick question from a complete newbie so sorry if this is obvious. The Armstrong power house class 800 - 803 enhancement pack listed above, does this include the train or is this an addon for another product. Thank you in advance.
man how does the OHLE assets not go missing for you? some of them go missing at paddington then past Hayes and Harlington Everything is gone 😢
hey man great vid, how do you activate it onto a train simulator by dovetail??
i love your content and im also working on a simular type of video in train simulator
Thank you! What are you working on?
@@PTGRail i route learning video on 1g05 but with a fictional stop at beeston because of routing issues when i made the scenario
I want you to make a whole services of railjet in Austria
Is there a reason why i don't see the GWR branded logos on my 800 ?
Edinburgh to London vibe...
I couldn’t help but draw comparisons between the two videos - as this is only the second time I’ve driven a journey of this length for the channel! WCML Glasgow to London, and West Highland Line Mallaig to Glasgow are the next two big video projects I hope to work on in the future.
Jesus 5 hours wow!!!
I know! And around 40 hours to actually put this video together. 😅
How do you get the 800/3 in it's correct consist, when I select it in my Train Sim, all the coaches seem to be first class by default
Hey PTG. How did you manage to create a custom scenario with the AP Class 800? Whenever I try on Career Mode, I can't spawn the 800s or when I do it on Quick Drive, whenever I try to save changes (mostly adding more trains) the changes are erased once I reload the scenario from the menu. Its very annoying and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to fix it.
same, i have the same issue with multiple ap trains
This one takes a while!
That it does! But I was really keen to make a video covering the entire route in one go. :)
How’s it going Peter
Couldn't you have driven the whole journey without having to create 3 different scenarios by using the JT full collection, letting you drive all the way from Paddington to penzance without having to stop
Using the JT Western Main Lines you can drive all the way - but only via Bristol. Very few Penzance services to London go via Bristol, so I had to change routes. Even then, I’d still do it in more than once scenario - if something goes wrong, or I screw up and have to reload from a save (which doesn’t always work), I’d have to start driving the journey all the way from Penzance again! 😅
@@PTGRail Fair enough, still great video, am working my way through it, slowly. Great work 👏
WHAT THE HECK THIS IS SOO LONG LOL
+Lol Tea and Biscuits
Alas, a train journey takes as long as it takes! I could have split this into three parts, but felt one part would be better - like my Edinburgh to London video lol
Yes tea and biscuits is railway slang that drivers use for having a few serious words with the manager’s. So for example they “I’m going to have tea and biscuits with the manager’s” instead of “I’m going into a meeting with the manager’s” as all drivers know what you are talking about when they use the tea and biscuits slang.
Hi great video, can you please tell me where I can purchase the train featured in this Vid? thanks in advance
armstrong powerhouse
does this support trackir 5 so you can do head movements?
Why the difference between the two speedometers?
How long does it take u to learn everything and revise everything
Bit confused, shouldnt the train be on the the left hand track?
It is on the left hand track
That's weird, I was just watching the ECML
