- Matt heads out with Tyler and his buddy on a snowy, foggy morning with high hopes of a mallard shoot. The trio was not disappointed as mallards were cupping up and dumping in all morning. Definitely one of the best hunts of the year!

I feel like I should add some context as to why I sound like a big goober about my 20 ga. I literally haven't shot that gun in 15+ years since I was a kid and have never shot a duck with it up until that hunt. The combination of the exciting hunt and shooting ducks in our face with the single shot just got me a little too excited lol.

For green head, pin tail,...,20 gauge and #4 shot can be utilized, but 12 gauge is better, the minimum 32 grams pellets for cartridge loaded. It depends on distance, pattern, penetration. Duck is not so easily to be killed down, sometimes especially there’s a long distance, the magnum shot is suggested, but please check the barrel pressure limit at first; also 30 or 28 inches barrel with full choke or improve modified choke would be better. This is my personal experience for your reference. You may try something else to find out what’s more helpful. Wish you enjoy it.

100 birds in one year? That’s insane. I’ll be hunting South Dakota for the first time this coming season and I’m hoping for like 20 on the year. There’s tons of birds around here so hopefully I beat that goal
This year was my best year at 141 ducks. I also went hunting over 60 days though. If you hit the early season hard up there, you'll be over 20 ducks before November.
You guys had a perfect time perfect place that day. It has occasionally occurred to me too. You still use 20 ga? Awesome hunt.

How do you typically prepare the ducks/geese you harvest? I'm always looking for new recipes!

I use a Benelli Vinci 12 gauge and a Beretta A 303 20cal. depending on the situation.

Hard to wear whites when you have waders on. But yes, in the snow goose spread or or even in the field with snow on the ground whites work.

I hunt all over.. There's not always that many. Just hit it right.
Are the rivers in Nebraska considered public land when use for hunting and recreation?
The water is public. If you touch any land underneath, be it your feet, decoy weight, fishing weights, etc, it's considered trespassing.

Yes I had a single shot Ithica 20 gauge.
I had a Remington Versamax 12 ga. Tyler had a 20 ga.
