  • This is a renovation project for the first 2 sets (of 6) rusty old license plates found in a barn in Massachusetts. Since I had 2 of each (front and back plates) I decided to Preserve one plate with the better looking patina, and restore the other plate. Then I mounted them on some reclaimed wood.
I'm self-taught, entirely by watching videos on TH-cam! Hope you like it.

Rocco - these license plates are very cool and I know people collect them. Nice project and outcome!

Nice job!! One new and one old... I've seen old plates repurposed into bird feeder roofing , too...

The result is pretty good! One suggestion would be to try and brush the lettering. You'll get a smoother more consistent result. A LOT of people think you need a super steady hand to use a brush but that just isn't necessarily true. Watch some sign painting videos on TH-cam. Use a long bristle brush like a Kafka "liner" or pinstriping liner. As you "pull" the lines the brush straightens out the line. Admittedly it does take some practice but it isn't that difficult. Back in the '20's Ford used to hire people off the street, give them a week or so training and viola, they were pinstriping model A's. All that being said your result looks pretty damn good! Oh and you might want to use OneShot paint.

Wow, I’m thoroughly impressed by your artistry on those. I have several plates myself (also Massachusetts!) and this was enlightening. The finished product deserves a slow clap like every late 90s movie at the end.
