The Pod is a BMW Isetta.
The car is a bubble car and probably would have completely destroyed your legs after the first crash.
The Geeze is a Fiat 500 and the Froggy (Kam's car) is a Citroen 2CV - strange they were allowed to use the look of these cars without licences. There's a New Beetle in the FMV too.

Top Gear Rally for the N64 was great. You could use the barriers to go around corners without losing speed, or even needing to turn. Brilliant.

Oh wow I never could remember what this game was. It holds the distinction for being the first game I ever rage quit. My dad and I were playing a game mode where the person who’s it has a bomb and you have to try to get it on the other driver before it blows. Couldn’t keep up with dads sweet skills so I slapped the power button 1 second before the bomb went off
Top Gear 1 and 2 were legit good games on the old SNES. The theme tunes too! You might be missing some of the benefits that stereo can provide!
With the lack of people walking about i guess this game is set in the futuristic space year of 2020...

I missed this one when it was brand new. On the plus side, my wait for the next episode is cut in half :)
We've reached the generation that doesnt know that top gear was the name of a game series long before BBC ever made a show about cars.
The game does not have a good reputation,
but at least this is one of the games I was passionate about as a kid with my friends.
I wish the map was a bit larger and I could race alone.

It was the PS2 in 2000/2001, if anything you had an abundance of choice.
Fun fact: Top Gear is a really popular fan favorite among Brazilian SNES owners. It is even more famous than Gremlin's then-better known Lotus games, or whatever other super-scaler racing games you may have on the top of your mind such as Outrun and whatnot.
I don't think anything past the three SNES games is as well known, let alone as well regarded by anyone. In my opinion, the series took a drastic turn on focus and quality since it changed devs for the N64 era.
Gremlin didn't just work on the first game, they also developed Top Gear 2 and Top Gear 3000. Top Gear 2 is pretty good, actually. I've never played 3000, but I've heard lots of good things about it. Would be fun to see them play those after having done this one.
They did not, but they shared some devs with Kemco, which explains why the OG Top Gear for the Snes was very much alike and inspired from the 'Lotus Turbo Challenge' series, originally for the Amiga PC. Some of top gear assets, like sfx and tracks are even the same ones from the Lotus series. Top Gear 3000 is the best one on the SNES imo, even if people have more nostalgia towards the first game.

Funny that you mention this because the Top Gear SNES trilogy, specially the first game, are insanely popular here in Brazil, in fact Horizon Chase Turbo was made in Brazil, and the first TG was a huge influence on it, they even share the same composer.
While TG Daredevil is utter shit, the SNES games are some of the best 16 bit racers, and there were a lot of games in the series that were quite technically impressive like Top Gear Rally on GBA.
Oh, and Top Gear 3000 also happens to be my favorite game so yeah...

The Top Gear series was a HUGE success here in Brazil. To the point that the soundtrack from the original game became something kinda synonymous with videogames here, like an anthem our minds would automatically turn to whenever someone mentioned playing games. Everyone here who's got some interest in games (albeit, retro games) knows and, at least, respects the franchise.
They made THIRTEEN OF THESE
The original Gremlin games on the SNES were pretty good actually. Top Gear Rally on the N64 wasn't great, but still had some cool features, like being able to hand-paint your car

the original 2 SNES games were like some of the best racing games at the time, and had absolutely fantastic soundtracks.
My memory of this game is my mom's friend thinking I was to stupid to tell the difference between this and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Underground at 6 years old.

Obviously a successor to Top gear Rally series on the n64, which is a shame as those games weren't bad and had realistic driving mechanics.

It took me an embarrassing long time into the video to realize it wasn't a game of the show but I can tell I'm not the only one.
Remember, there were lots of top gear mobile games That are way closer to the show. Although BBC deleted most of them due to the trio not being a part of it anymore
I had a few of the Top Gear games and they were quite fun! Obviously as time has gone on they have been dates massively... Bit back in the day they weren't bad... Well they were bad but they weren't as bad as some of the shockers out there at the time!
1999/2000 must have marked the first year that the Ren & Stimpy font was available for free online.

Controlling racing games with the analogue sticks was actually pretty common back then. No idea why, cause it was bloody awful trying to control them with the sticks

TJ boys (and girls!) might be interested on getting to know a parallel reality, so I'll write down some stuff about the Top Gear franchise:
- It was extremely succesfull in South America during the 16bit era, especially the OG Top Gear for the SNES. It was basically a clone from the 'Lotus Turbo Challenge' series developed by Gremlim soft. originally for the AMIGA computers, even going as far to share some assets from that game such as sfx and some of the music tracks.
- As far as I know, the Top Gear series became much more popular in south america than on the rest of the world : The home computer market had not caught up around these parts in the late 80s and early 90s, so even if a game like Top Gear is a complete copy from the likes of lotus/jaguar series for 16bit euro home computers, it was still somehow a new thing on home consoles, hence why it conquered the market here and have not had any kind of this novelty elsewhere in the world.
- Sure, there was the OutRun port on the Sega Mega Drive. However, that version have had mixed receptions, even tho its a great game on its own.
-Its success was sufficient for the franchise to spawn a lot of other iterations ranging from the SNES up until the actual last gen of consoles: TG2 and Top gear 3000 (SNES), Top Gear Rally/Overdrive/Rally 2 (N64), TG: Dare Devil (PS2) and at last, Horizon Chase (Switch/PS4) which is somehow of a spiritual sucessor/remake homage to the OG SNES Top Gear.
-My personal take on the PS2 iteration, covered in this video: Seems like they tried to surf the hype from 'Driver', pre dating the use of open world as we better known today stapled by GTA III. It was a very popular trend during 99'~00', and the game actually looks better than some of its competitors at the time, as the 'Midtown Madness' series and its clones, even tho the cited 'Crazy Taxi' is the game that perfected the 'arcade free roam' formula imo. Dont Know how the gameplay feels tho, since I myself never played the game, altough that would be the sort of stuff I'd buy in 2000. 🤣

OMG I can't believe it. I used to play the first 3 games on the SNES, Top Gear 1, 2 and 3000, they are a Classic on the SNES. Played the Rally one on the n64 and never heard about it again.

The pod is based on a Bmw isetta. I say based not because it handles or has the same top speed as it but because it's clearly meant to look like one.

The older Top Gear games were actually quite good, this is one is nothing like those. The way this game presents itself is also very misleading, how is this a "dare devil" game? Where are the stunts, jumps, and racing against other cars? The whole thing is like what should have been just a mini game, included as an extra mode within a full racing game.

The original Top Gear trilogy on SNES are actually pretty awesome. They're not coin-collecting dumpster fires like this game, but instead are awesome racing games (Plus, the first game has an outstanding soundtrack). Later entries are decent, but it's a shame that the series was destroyed by this horrible game that was Top Gear in name only.
Also, if you feel like playing horrible driving games, you should play Action Girlz Racing (Wii, PS2, PC), 007 Racing (PS1), Pulse Racer (Xbox), and Pimp My Ride (360, PS2, Wii, PSP).
Out of the games you enlisted, they already have played every single one on WGE, except for Pulse Racer.🤣🤣🤣
I really recommend you to check those episodes out, crappy racers are amongst their best episodes. London Racer and Action Girlz episodes are amongst my all time favorites from the whole series.
