- AM (amplitude modulation) broadcasting and FM (frequency modulation) broadcasting are two different methods of transmitting radio signals. The main differences between AM and FM are the way they modulate the carrier wave, the frequency range they use, and the types of signals they can transmit.

In AM broadcasting, the amplitude, or strength, of the carrier wave is modulated, or varied, to carry the information being transmitted. The information is encoded as variations in the amplitude of the carrier wave, which are detected by the receiver and demodulated to extract the original information.
AM broadcasting uses a frequency range of 550-1700 kHz (kilohertz), which is lower than the frequency range used by FM broadcasting. AM signals are relatively easy to transmit over long distances, but they are more susceptible to interference from other sources, such as electrical devices and lightning. AM signals are also more prone to fading and static due to changes in the atmosphere.
In FM broadcasting, the frequency, or pitch, of the carrier wave is modulated to carry the information being transmitted. The information is encoded as variations in the frequency of the carrier wave, which are detected by the receiver and demodulated to extract the original information.
FM broadcasting uses a frequency range of 88-108 MHz (megahertz), which is higher than the frequency range used by AM broadcasting. FM signals are less susceptible to interference and static than AM signals, but they are more difficult to transmit over long distances. FM signals are typically used for higher-fidelity audio transmission, such as music and voice broadcasting.
Both AM and FM broadcasting are widely used for transmitting a wide range of signals, including music, news, and talk shows. AM broadcasting is more commonly used for news and talk shows, while FM broadcasting is more commonly used for music and other types of audio programming.
