@@Rybonator it's alright, the first attempt was still a fail, I was almost done, got up to do something then knocked them all over as I sat back down lol
Petri dish is fun and easy. The learning curve is small definitely there but small. Once you've mastered it, you can experiment like dragging a toothpick through it :P. Different curing times, using metallics (there's tricks to that), different alcohol ink brands, inclusions, different shaped mould etc.
Everyone always dose demonic patrons how about a Celestial pact. So something with silver, gold, and blue. Like the Angles from Bayonetta

This was certainly not what I was expecting when I clicked on this video. I want so many of these dice, but I would never be able to use these dice because I would just end up holding up the game while I got lost staring into my dice. The purple and gold D20 has to be my absolute favourite, and it certainly doesn't hurt that my favourite colour is purple.

A video on the bare bones, least expensive way to make dice that aren't perfect but usable would be amazing. I think a pressure pot and stuff aren't accessable to a lot of people and that makes them not want to try dice making because it looks too involved. Dice making is a fun hobby and I'd love to see more people try it!
You can buy a bare bones kit for about $35 at Michaels (and they almost always have 20% off sales running). You get 16oz resin, a mold (you choose the shape), 3-4 alcohol inks (you choose color set), and a "filler" (various glitter, confetti, etc). The only things I bought before starting were silicone tools (measuring cup, stirrer). I've gotten A LOT more since, but that's cause that little kit was enough to get me hooked.

The final purple die is... unbelievably beautiful. Just wondering how it'd look with silver ink for the numbers.
There are a LOT of variables with the petri effect, I have a whole video on it here th-cam.com/video/NWjqQLFpzzY/w-d-xo.html The main one is the amount of time you wait after pouring the resin and adding the alcohol ink, which is different for every brand of resin.
I watched that video! It was super interesting and definitely worth a look for anyone considering trying this method.
Question for you: have you ever tried mixing the white alcohol ink with another colour before adding them? It seems to me that the pigments in the white are heavier than in most other inks, so whenever you add too much white (or add it at the wrong time) it drips through the resin and leaves white splotches on the bottom. I'm thinking by pre-mixing them, you could wind up with a heavier pigmented colour, and if it settled on the bottom it'd at least be a coloured splotch instead of a white one. Would this work, or would they just separate out again?

I always found deep, royal colour blues go nicely with a warlock. Purple is a given.

I'm so going to have to try this method when i have the spare cash to start making dice. I already found the pressure pot and my bf has an air compressor and I get paid next week do its finally time to start! Warlock colors can really depend on the patron. Dark one has a very purple, red, black feel but a Fey patron would be more green, blue, and purple. So basically purple to some extent haha.

Two D20 looks I would loooove to see for the warlock dice are:
Warlock Pact of the ArchFey: transparent glitter green with yellow tendrils
Warlock Pact of the Genii: Various shades of blue and white

My warlock I just made has a Marid Djinn as a patron so the blues/white/silver would fit her perfectly.
Something I've done with the alcohol ink is using a solid metallic ink instead of the white. It works just as well and it gives your pieces more shimmer
I had heard that the metal ones don't go down as well as white :o But I'll give it a shot!
I find it funny that I watch all of these videos of yours despite being unable to make most of them myself (due to money). Just looks so fun and I hope to sometime make my own set of dice in the future

Getting to a higher level is a bit expensive sadly :/ But you can always save up bit by bit, eventually the hobby pays for itself :)
These are awesome. Honestly probably the second die type ive seen i actually like but the other vids were amazing just for the knowledge of knowing of how something might turn out b4 dumpin money/time into. "They do the work so u dont have tooooooooo!" Or something like that.
If you just buy the resin and molds and sand paper it's pretty affordable. You don't NEED to go all out and do a pressure pot and have expensive additives. It cost me about 30$ to get small batch resin mix and some molds. Thats really all you need to get started.

@@phil2377 to be fair you can get large quantities of resin and molds off of amazon if you want to create your own style you could always get some clay fill a sacrificial mold then let it harden and carve out the style of letter/number you want. A pressure pot is easy enough to make you can find plenty of videos here on youtube and finding sales at places like tractor supply or harbor freight(I am in southern US store names may be different around you) make it relatively cheap as you don't need to buy it all at once to build it. I am working towards it now myself.
This dice style does look really cool. As far as colours go for warlocks well that really depends on the patron. So here are some examples:
Fiend Warlock : Red and Black. The expected colour combination but it's a classic for a reason.
Arch Fey Warlock: A light green mixed with white.
Great Old One Warlock: Dark Green mixed with black.
Celestial: Gold and White. I think this one in particular would look cool.
Hexblade: Silver and Black. Not sure if silver would work but the silver for the metal of the blade and black for the necromantic abilities it brings.
Undying Warlock: It's undying so no one cares. For real though maybe a simple white and black. Not sure if that would even work but it could look quite striking.

A possible suggestion for a future video? I recently discovered the ancient Royal Game of Ur and instead of buying a game, I want to build it. What I would like to learn is, how to pour the four, D4 dice needed with no numbers BUT....with two white(or off-color)corners. Yea, I could paint the corners but well...you know. lol It would be awesome to be able to pour the corners , then the rest in a 'nail polish color' called ''Vamp'', which a red base with a thin black overcoat, so the red 'bleeds' through like an under-painting and then two bright red corner tips on each one and also, the game requires seven, alternate colored, 2-sided 'backgammon' markers with 5 dots on one side, per player. Thanks for any help and keep up the good work with the awesome videos!

Given the "brain" that the last die had, as well as the color, I think it's a perfect die for a Psychic/Psionic character.

Your videos have been a huge inspiration. I watched all of your videos before I got myself a little workspace set up in a grow tent to vent the fumes outside, and started making dice maybe 6 or 7 months ago. I've made 3 and I don't think they would have come out nearly as nice as they did if I didn't binge watch your tutorials beforehand. I got a mold and a large assortment of mica powders from DruidDice to work with, and even ordered a new one with 2 sets of frame inserts. We'll see how those go - but I think it'll go relatively smoothly thanks to your tutorials.
I've been busy with work (and a lack of motivation due to mental health) so I haven't made any dice in a while. I'm getting that itch again though, so I've been re-watching your dice making videos for some ideas and inspiration for my own sets.

Gunmetal, dark metallic. Dark Blue with a ting of neon purple or Barf green essence. Red or Blood color.

just an idea: it might be advantageous to swirl a small amount of already thickening clean resin around the mould, to coat the insde of the mould.
that would give the final product a nice, uniform, clear layer on the outside. it would prvent any ink from sticking to the moulld, and would also help to compensate for it, when some spots dont quite cure perfectly.
The colors would depend on the patron, make a couple, deep blue for the great old one, vibrant green for the archfey, and finish this set for the new Genie warlock!
that purple die has me SHOOK man!!!!! my dnd character that i hope to play someday is a purple tiefling who i want to eventually double-class as rogue/warlock, so it would be absolutely perfect for her!
I recently bought a 3d printer and after binge watching some of your videos, you are inspiring me to try making my own resin dice.
Both the dice tray and the dice themselves look really good! With that last purple one for the Warlock class set, why not lean into the purple and gold, maybe pull in some silver or grey and make them a celestial Warlock? You've already got a base that has that really dark purple and the lightening effect from the petri dish effect, so it could be really cool.
Watching dice making videos ignites a desire in me. I feel like if I stare at them too long my pupils will dilate like a cat's when they see something they want. I only have one set of dice and my inner goblin yearns for more!

That one is totally my fav color scheme for a warlock, all purpleish and golden 😍 I do have a warlock and I painted the mini myself with a friend's help (was my first time painting a mini and turned out nice!) and I painted her coat purple, and her clothes blue, white and silver, but now I wish I used more gold like this dice!

Green tendrils in some sort of smoky, transparent black would look cool. A metallic silver paint for the numbers would set it off nicely too imo.

Oh gosh I LOVE the purple die (not because its purple or anything lol). The gold suits it perfectly since they're complimentary colors. My dice goblin brain is happy :D

This would be great if used minimalistically on a druid dice set. You could have a whole mushroom themed dice set. Use some brown and white petri for some mushrooms and play around with the base. Either a spotty soil coloured base or perhaps some layered striping to give the effect of a rotted wooden log.
That Purple dice is gorgeous! It gives me a warlock vibe, I wanna try making them! 💜
I must say, your puns make you a cultured man.
Frankly I think (dark) purple is already the way to go for warlock. It is a colour often used to portray evil/ominous auras or black auras will have a purple glow, that's your fiend/possessed artefact hexblade/maaaaybe undying. At the same time purple is often connoted with royalty, so it could very well be a noble of the fey court or a celestial. Or maybe it is the colour of a ancient nebula in space? Old ones there you go.
Alternatively, a red/blue/white combo with a black bottom and maybe a bit glitter in the transparent basis. If you google space nebula, there's some pretty amazing pictures in these colours. Looks spacey and a bit evil, but also mesmerizingly beautiful and mysterious so an option to represent most warlocks except celestial. Also good for the sake of not having a second video starring the same dicecolor.
I haven't tried the petri method before because I thought I would need a specific white ink, not regular alcohol ink..... And now that I learnt that I am wrong I don't have any resin left to try it.... So frustrating !! xD

Warlock Dice: Overall Black in color with glitter to act as stars with Ectoplasmic Green for the petri style tendrils.
I recommend a Deep Blood Red for the numbers or maybe some glow in the dark pigment with some mica powder mixed in.

I saw a cool trick for getting air bubbles out of a mold recently. Use a reciprocating saw without the blade and hold it against the mold.
Granted this was with cement in a guitar mold. But it could be a cool experiment with dice.
Would love to see a Dice Goblin 'Coin' dump mould - something simple - they could be simple single sided coins, or if you really wanted to double down on the coin thing, could just glue two together back to back. They'd make awesome tokens or gifts and the more unique they are, the better! the bases are cool and all, but i imagine you will get to a point one day where you have more bases than models..

Warlocks are dependent on the patron for what colors make sense. For example, an infernal patron would suggest something with red and black swirls, very orderly, while a great old one would be a deep blue and dark dark green. What you have here suggests an archfey patron. To that end, you’re probably going to want a set that compliments that, invoking the natural chaos of the feywild, the fickle nature of the fey, and the royalty of their courts. The purple D20 is a powerful start, invoking eldritch knowledge and ancient magics. I’d suggest either a blue and white for the winter court or greens and reds for the summer court, along with some tangled green and brown to represent the gnarled, twisted forests of the feywild.
That last die you made is CLEAN

These dice are growing on me! I can't handle the viral load of how awesome these dice look. I'm feeling sick at the thought that I don't own a set of dice like these. *smirk*
These are the reasons I can't bring myself to buy dice/make dice. I'm just going to want to buy more and more sets, because all of them are SO damn gorgeous! Just look at that purple one with the gold numbers. It's so freaking pretty.
To prevent the alcohol ink from reaching the sides, it might help to tip your mold in each direction to coat the sides with resin before adding the ink. Not sure if this would work, it's just what came to mind when I saw it.

you should pick a eldritch being to make the dice around because depending on what one you choose you can get a wide range of color schemes associated with them.

I thought petri dish designs required a flat, open surface like a tray or coaster, and never would have dreamed of trying it with dice, but they came out great! For the curious, the Petri dish effect is caused by the heavier opaque white ink pushing the colored inks down into the clear resin.
Also, for best results when doing swirls or marbling effects, wipe the toothpick clean between swipes (or use a new one each time, if you prefer).

For warlock color maybe try purple & black but not fully mixed to try for swirling or waves for a mystical look.
Get some real VOID tendrils going 😁
Use some nature colors like brown or green and you could get some cool druid mushroom looking dice using this method. I know you're not always a druid fan, but those of us who are live for this kind of stuff.
I took microbiology last semester and the coaster at first really sold it to me. I almost thought that there would be a bad smell alongside it >-<
cool warlock colors:
archfey: green, browns, pinks (I'm biased for this one because my current character is an archfey warlock 💚)
fiend: red, oranges, blacks
old one: blues, greys, whites (lean dark)
celestial: blue, greys, whites (lean light)
There are like 7 different other pacts but those 4 are the original ones that were introduced at the start of 5th edition and idk if you'd want me to ramble that much
