And for me I don't like the singers that over do it and scream all the time. I loved Whitney Houston because when she sang live, the song always sounded close to her record, she would change things here and there but she always kept it pleasant to the ear, other than Whitney I really don't care for any of the other singers who scream and do all the unnecessary trains, that turns me completely off. A singer with a big chest/mixed voice can sing smaller, but they either get airy and/or lose intensity. Every type of voice has it's utility.

The band follows great.. Janet sounded great. At the end she didn't days a few words of the song (don't ever let me go...etc). And she got through it wonderfully and the band ended it nicely with her. That's a good live performance.
u can tell she didnt like her performance by the slight pitch amplify she did at end and its almost like she cut the song short. man...if she did it like her shows ...still a great performance, clearly shes very hard on herself. the hold me section tho...its the songs clincher...."say u loooove me"....

I love this song. It’s why I searched out this video. But if we don’t acknowledge Miss Jackson is absolutely flat here, we’re just dishonest. Or possibly too sentimental to admit it.
But guys, this performance is horrendous. Simply from a pitch perspective. Demonstrably flat. I didn’t require any other proof, but just to substantiate my claim, I tested this vocal track by comparing to my tuning fork/ A=440. She’s so horrifically flat throughout, that it’s a little embarrassing. Yikes.
Studios definitely create the magic. This vocal performance is rather awful. Frequencies don’t lie.
It's also a known fact that she was very sick when she did this performance. I believe she had the flu. They were going to cancel her performance altogether, but she insisted she wanted to perform. Not making any excuses, but it's just something to consider in the critique of this performance. She's performed this song many times live and I have to say she's done a MUCH better job in those performances (i.e. the Velvet Rope Tour) compared to this one. I commend her for making the effort through sickness, because she could have easily chose to sing with a backing track or lip sync it completely.
