Sad fact: Drummer Paul Hester who played drums in this song, committed suicide on March 26, 2005 after going through 4 years of ongoing depression. May he rest in peace forever. His dream may be over, but this song won't.
This song always reminds me of a memory in high school. I was sitting in my car in the parking lot after school one day with my very best friend. She was really into heavy metal - a ROCKER CHICK. An example of the perfect song. Dedicated to my friend, 15 years young Helena F., who died yesterday after a 12 year battle with medulloblastoma, cancer of the brain...she refused to dream it was over. Her light of the soul will shine forever. I miss you already sweety. Say hi to Jesus for me.

“Don’t Dream It’s Over” is a message of encouragement to someone who is struggling to hold onto hope. The singer in the song is talking to someone they’re deeply connected with, and he’s promising that their bond will survive any challenge. The lyrics describe hardships that can happen in life, but the song insists that we can defeat obstacles by depending on one another. I woke up this morning with this song in my head!! I love it!!🥰😘💞💗

While the song has a blissful melancholy, it encourages us to stand by our dreams and to stand by each other. Too often, to this very day, we are divided by walls or the imaginary concerns of the world. Such a beautiful song...

Many songs that I enjoyed back in the 80s have worn thin, but I never tire of this beautiful, haunting song. The music, the lyrics, and the singing are awesome.
Pure soul. What a perfect combination of visual lyrics and golden voice. I remember trying to explain to someone much younger what "there is freedom within, there is freedom without" means.
I would like to add that I feel a real Todd Rundgren vibe in this song and I mean that as a total compliment. The melodic quality in this song is superb, and something I have always appreciated.
Whenever I hear this song I think of summer days at the Indiana dunes laying on the beach and chasing girls. I wish I could go back to those days and see those friends who are dead now or I have drifted away from. I wish I could do it all over again I would have not taken my youth and those I cared about for granted.
I hear ya, but part of the reason youth is fun is because you don't know how fast it will be gone. You can't be reckless and carefree if you're conscious of making it count all the time.
To my fellow Crowdies out there in March 2024. CH one of the biggest bands in the world, and you can't talk about 80's music without them. CH helped shape and define an era..
I'd be honored if some 80s fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal YT performances of RADIO GA-GA by Queen, IS THIS LOVE by Whitesnake, and AGAINST ALL ODDS by Phil Collins in tribute to the era of legendary power ballads. Live acoustic with no autotune. Peace and stay safe in the '020s.

Yep, I'm 38 and a lifelong hip hop listener, yet this one I loved as a kid. Its quality how certain music can cause such a crossover in terms of its audience.
I know it's 2 different genres of music but this song and "Don't Deserve This Groove" by The System just jettisons me back to the 80s like no other. Don't Deserve This Groove reminds me of my heavy weed smoking days when I was strongly considering being a Forensic Psychologist. @@KingDomsKingdom85
Lots of young people loving this I see. The world is yours, don't believe the lies, love eachother. The system and the TV do not want what is best for you, believe me.
I agree, forget corona for a minute as they seem to shove it down our throats like nothing else is important.. take a step back, breathe, enjoy what's here around us. My nan once said " if you rush you'll rush ahead like that all the time, you'll miss the hidden gems in life" and it couldn't be more true.
I love this song so much. I was 30 years old when it came out. Every time I hear it, I’m magically transported back to that era. I don’t regret being my present age. In fact, I’m happy to have lived during that great time for music. I saw Crowded House live in Pittsburgh in the early 90s. When they played “Don’t Dream It’s Over,” it was absolutely perfect. That band was meant to mesh with its special moment in time.
I remember the first time I told my mom I love this song, she screamed because when she was younger she used to love it, I just find it weird how we have exactly the same music taste without even knowing.
Kenjo Alangui I know, the new music that is coming out nowadays is nothing compared to songs like this, my moms always loved songs from when I wasn't around and that's kind of been passed on to me

It’s crazy how deeply this video deals with nostalgia from earlier decades…meanwhile, 90% of the people watching this (myself included) are like “the 80s 🤤”lol. Some things never change I suppose.

This song really makes me feel like IT IS 2020, just considering everything we are going through in this nation and globally. It also kind of mirrors my relationship with a certain person who is on my mind a lot and it's really a burdensome, patience-testing relationship, a person who WON'T LET ME IN despite my efforts and patience towards her. I someday hope to win this person over.

Many songs that I enjoyed back in the 80s have worn thin, but I never tire of this beautiful, haunting song. The music, the lyrics, and the singing are awesome.
There was a song as perfect as this coming out every week in the 1980's from 1980-87.......pop's 2nd but best golden age.

Pure soul. What a perfect combination of visual lyrics and golden voice. I remember trying to explain to someone much younger what "there is freedom within, there is freedom without" means.
Watching this video makes you cool, but listening to it while scrolling through the comment makes you even cooler
Proof that the 80's produced some really timeless music.
I would like to add that I feel a real Todd Rundgren vibe in this song and I mean that as a total compliment. The melodic quality in this song is superb, and something I have always appreciated.
Yeah Right.........,.....✌️

It was on their debut Album which was called Crowded House.🏠
Whenever I hear this song I think of summer days at the Indiana dunes laying on the beach and chasing girls. I wish I could go back to those days and see those friends who are dead now or I have drifted away from. I wish I could do it all over again I would have not taken my youth and those I cared about for granted.
What a beautiful comment. I feel for you and your wonderful memories :)
I hear you bro. Time gets away from us.
I hear ya, but part of the reason youth is fun is because you don't know how fast it will be gone. You can't be reckless and carefree if you're conscious of making it count all the time.
as they say, youth is wasted on the young
well put I to have lost a lot of friends GOD BLESS.

Some of the songs of the 1980s were the best songs ever written in the entire history of music. And this is one of them!
This has to be the coolest, most timeless song of all time. Love it just as much now as I did when I was a teen.
The most catchy tune one can ever come across in ones life. They brought a whole lot of these catchy tunes to the front.

True indeed
I know it's 2 different genres of music but this song and "Don't Deserve This Groove" by The System just jettisons me back to the 80s like no other. Don't Deserve This Groove reminds me of my heavy weed smoking days when I was strongly considering being a Forensic Psychologist. @@KingDomsKingdom85
