I find it hilarious that it took this long for academia to get to this point.
Anyone with any ability to think critically knew the moment they heard his "ideas" that he was a race hustler.
Not to mention, he always refused to debate anyone on his ideas.
Anyone who has spent time in academia SHOULD tell you, that if a person cannot stand and defend their ideas - You should be very wary of that individual.
How the hell did this guy get this far?? Oh, right - It was politically expedient at the time....
I wish I could see what Dr. Kendi's dissertation defense looked like.
@@AcmeRacing Me too! It would make for a great comedy, I'm sure.
How did he rise to acclaim in the mainstream left? A profoundly Woke book that captured their minds?
I tried to read his book or ‘books’, it’s the product of an utterly confused and muddled mind that was formed on social media. He can’t stay on topic for a full sentence.
In his defence staying on topic for a full sentence is as hard as watching Star Wars and not getting into an argument about how you can use the Force to help with farming and how the abandonment of traditional farming techniques caused massive famines across the globe.
he probably doenst even write his book though
also, I read his book from public library
it wasnt that bad
it mainly focused on things like how black americans are becoming as poor as blacks in south america
mainly blaming whiteness [and preference for whiteness] as the perp.
Holy cow folks this guy is so protected. I'm trying to find an article about the research center and my searches reveal NOTHING,
WOW. Norman Finkelstein actually sat down and read this tripe. Thats Navy SEALS brave.
funny how staff only expressed concerns AFTER they were booted....
Exactly. That's how it always is. The women at fox news never complained until they weren't given the contract they wanted. These ppl aren't brave. They're just reading the room
Why does timing matter on this issue? Whining afterwards is a norm, especially when you lose your cut. Doesn't mean the accusations aren't true. 😎
Love Norm. He is so tactfully blunt
Nah. I think his "review" of the book is childish. I didn't love it. But "everyone is a racist but me" is terribly overly simplistic.
If norm's brain is so tiny he can't understand people who disagree with him, he can just say so. Ironically, his argument is "everyone is lying about how good the book is but me" 🤡
I have little patience for trash like this. If someone as dim as me can read and understand a wacko book by Sarah Palin or Candace Owens, this so called intellectual can try to get something out of Kendi
Tactfully blunt 😂😂😂
A remnant of the "Old Left" in the West.
I only smoke tactful blunts
Only he's on the MAGA anti-woke bandwagon and has no idea that woke is a bs term used by republicans to define any left wing idea they don't like. To norm woke means leftists want massive income inequality as long as the Uber-rich are represented by black women too which is idiotic crap. Absolute stupidity.
Black liberation is a big part of the larger project. An integral part. But just getting rich by guilt-tripping whitey, and doing so outside of any class-based framework, is completely unhelpful.

Kendi's problem is he is just not that bright. His writing can be summarized, as most of the Critical studies can be summarized, as "if you see a system or situation that does not produce the result you desire, undermine and destroy that system of thing." Kendi's definition of "racism" is when you see a disproportionate representation of blacks it's due to racism. Period. The whole system is "give me what I want or you are a racist."

I put the playback speed at 1.5 which allowed me to enjoy Mr. Finkelstein's perspective.
I suspect it ain't a coincidence how well Kendi was at fleecing money from corporate donors and the shallowness and non-content of his book. Often times sales people just focus on the sale and nothing else.
I would argue that his existence revolves around selling shit, negotiating ( neg-otium), while anybody with the will to learn and better himself and others by Humanistic ambition. 😮 anti-Semite !
So the grifters had a problem after they got laid off - nice
Norman is an absolute legend.
Norman is a typical arrogant white intellectual with his take here. First of all, Khendi is not a leading African American intellectual but he has important insights about institutional or structural racism. He is popular for his insight that being an anti-racism is not simply a declaration that one is not racist. It is committing to action to confront racism … systemically and in policy choices.
Declarations are often used as a mask and simply represent a form of denial. Trump among others declares as much and his record prices otherwise. So do many white who are aghast that one would challenge their anti-racist bonafides when they have made no effort to confront racism.
How an intellectual like Norman Finkelstein misses that insight is beyond me. And here he is patently disingenuous!
It’s frustrating to hear Norman claim that ‘ending disparities in racial experiences’ is about is ending disparities in the elite positioning… that’s such a most absurd take!!! How does that speak to ending disparities in health, in women’s health, in housing, in wealth, etc… most of the data used is clearly it’s not about the the small black elite.
This is an important method coming out of critical race theory to quantify or establish structural racism. And it’s clear Norman is not interested in that project. What really about race is he interested in?
Khendi has a critique of racial capitalism… be fair white man!!!! And it may not be as well developed as mine… I don’t know about yours. But to say that Khendi is not critical of capitalist maldistribution of society’s resources and the creation of racial poverty is disingenuous!! It’s to gaslight those who have not read his work or who have come to appreciate his insights, however limited.
I am just so frustrated with white academics in full denial mode using every excuse to crap on scholars and activists who are committed to racial justice!!!
I don’t condone Khenti’s misuse of funds collected in the name of the struggle but please, don’t use the occasion to dump all over the struggle for racial emancipation. And Norman sound like sone right winger carrying on about wokeness… is he really serious about being an ally as he claims his biography suggests?
Sad!!!
How could anyone with a brain ever take the Grift of Kendi seriously?
Another fine dialogue featuring Norman Finkelstein, who, regrettably is a dying breed in that his does not beat about the bush or suffer fools gladly, traits that are sadly missing in many who claim to be Left, but when push comes to shove prefer the status quo. Once more a fine dialogue by all involved.
Ok
The fact that someone thought funding/creating the center was a good idea is beyond me. The people that funded it use their involvement as a shield, just like BLM, NAACP and the ADL.
It's basically like these people are the new medieval Church selling indulgences. If you give Ibram X Kendi 50 million to run an "anti-racism institute" you're absolved of original sin.
of course it was a great idea. It is called "rent seeking". I am sure many benefited from it, specially the great scholar Henry Rodgers.
Can't wait for Kendi's new book - "How To Be A Race Grifter." It will explain why his own moral and ethical corruption is the fault of - wait for it - "structural racism." : /

We're talking about a guy who trucks in circular logic. To him, racism is a set of policies based on racism. I get the sense that he may not be aware that he's a fraud. He's been rewarded so much, he doesn't see it.
To me it was obvious from the start that Ibram X. Kendi suffers from a severe IQ deficiency.
Also verbal diarrhea and mental constipation.
Norm Finkelstein is a treasure.
I'm sorry Norman, your outrage is convincing, but the academic fields of which you speak are an indulgence to be regretted. They are bankrupt and they never had any hope but to be bankrupt. They are the refuge of would-be poets and novelists who never had the talent for literature, and wretched bureaucrats. It's time the whole grift was up, including all of those disciplines. They are all the same and they syphon money from worthy causes for the fomenting of high-minded resentment.
I appreciate the discussion of this topic. I wish you would define "woke culture" and then interrogate that definition!
Woke is a slang term, it's been used for 70 years. Where do you start ??
There is no such thing as "woke culture." The word started getting used by African Americans decades ago by people wanting to talk about people waking up to the realities of systematic racism. Eventually the Left in general started using it in relation to Capitalism (which is the foundation of racism in North America). Then the Right got a hold of it and started using it to decry anything they didn't like.
Because apparently white pop singers dating white football players is now..."woke."
At war with observable reality. And biology. Men can have periods and babies. Basically progressivism!
Even calling (or comparing) him to Kenny G is giving him too much credit.
There is one chapter in How to Be an Antiracist dedicated to exploring the idea of racism and Capitalism being "conjoined twins" if I remember correctly. That being said, I agree with you all on the larger point.
Sounds like an opportunistic rhetorical clearing of the throat

I didn't read his book but I'm similar with the whole movement. I've started being deliberate in my use of the words "leftist" and "liberal." Because they definitely have pushed us out of "the left", but they are not liberals.
They "appropriated" the word liberal, with the help of Fox News, and have tried to force it on a kind of deeply illiberal social/class/racial dialectic struggle between "oppressors and oppressed." That's not liberalism. That's the opposite of liberalism.

I'm still taken aback by the notion that 43 million dollars could have gone to scholarships. Its obvious that these "scholarships" would've gone to only one race of people. How have we gotten to the point that this is acceptable and not even worth mentioning? It is wrong. Maybe I'm wrong but thus seems to be the actual problem. It all started when we casually allowed this to be acceptable and then people like Ibram Kendi became possible.
When liberals and the left made a decision that black people couldn't be racist and it was okay to say and do things to white people that would be racist in literally any other context that was the end of solidarity. Black culture in 2023 is basically gangs, black women and white people. Black men have been pushed out. Now I am lectured to by white women about what I should approve of in the black community. Black spaces are run predominantly by women and a lot of those stances are thinly veiled acts of jealousy. Endlessly encouraged by patronizing white people who get off on being pretend martyrs.

Twice as many. For every poor black American there are two poor white Americans.
That's a bad argument because there are 231.9 mill. white Americans and 41.6 million black americans. naturally theres going to be more poor white americans. Also the average income in white americans is about $76,000, conversely, the average in black americans $46,000.
