i don't think we should use plugins just because some famous people used them, but because we find value in them ourselves

REAL pros stick with what they know and master a lean toolkit
Very True, but I will say a lot of these plugins are really good, and with all the AI development going on they are bound to be fantastic, they are really decently priced aswell compared to a lot of the “Go To’s” . I must say when I saw the newfangled limiter with all the different bands that react real-time to the audio it’s processing. I did think that was pretty incredible, and I can imagine that being a great limiter. And providing great results for a mastering engineer
Exactly right. First of all, most of these plugins on the mix bus are for mastering. Most mixing engineers keep a simple set of tools and just know them inside and out. That's how I've done it for years.

yeah these "secret" mass-market plugins with huge marketing budgets. I make a living from mixing and mastering with tens of millions of streams, and Im quite happy with stock plugins from any major DAW. Edit: these tools are great, nothing wrong with them, but they will not make your mix sound pro unless you are a pro.

I bought a few TDR plugins, Slick M is especially good for mastering. It`s EQ with quite unique stereo imaging approach, as well as exciter for both low and hi end, and what they call Smart operations (can analyze the track, reference and do certain things after).Other their plugins such as Nova dynamic EQ and Kotelnikov compressor are also on my mixbus
I'd add ProAudioDSP DSM V3 in this list. It can work amazingly well as a de-esser or in place of a multiband compressor or as a tape EQ curve emulation. Another thing it can do is capture a compression curve from one track and apply it to another track. I strongly recommend trying it out! And it's GUI is very straightforward and user-friendly.

These are great and all but I can’t help but think of how many new engineers are running for “secret weapons” when what they need to do is master the basics of eq and compression … and fader balance !!! Can’t hear something ? Turn it up & automate if gets too loud in a different part of your song. Problem is , there’s no shiny toy to do this. Just good old fashioned practice and ear training.
This video has good info and I think you're making it in good faith to help people but the editing and writing delivery makes it feel like an ad in a way that's hard to watch or take seriously.
Just some constructive criticism I still appreciate you compiling these mix bus plug ins.

OK more seriously, Melda plug-ins are very, very good. I've got several multiband plug-ins. You don't need to dig deep to get great results. However, feel free to go very deep into rabbit holes of many setting variables, even modulators. Sonible is on the wishlist too. I'll have to review the rest, they certainly seem interesting.

I like when people use actual mix engineers to push their lame video ideas. The real secret is knowing how to mix
I thought the same thing. A fix to all these issues is to start with properly recorded sounds and in the end, there will be a smaller need to spend hours mixing to get it to all sound right, because if each part sounds right to begin with, then it's just a matter of balancing the sounds into a coherent mix. In other words, if it sounds good, then it sounds good, and doesn't need any more processing.

All of these plugins combine processes that are hard to find in just one other plugin. Better to work smart and not hard. Also to know what you’re looking for. They’re used by these guys for a reason, at the end of the day you gotta use your ears

I simply cannot praise enough a free plugin called Nova by the underrated company Tokyo Dawn. It's a dynamic EQ (or call it a multi-band compressor; it's the same thing, the EQ dynamic is achieved via compression anyway) which is absolutely s u p e r b in transparency and control. I use it on all my mixes on the mixbus over any other EQs to adjust the balance just right at the end, as well as more drastically to get guitars and keys out of the void and into your face!!! There is even a video about a cool mastering trick you can do on it. I'm curious myself what compressor you used on your voice in this video btw?!

The problem with these types of videos is that it misleads people into thinking that they must use brand X plugin because Producer X uses it on every mix, so they in turn, use it on every mix too. Sometimes you just don't need an EQ, Compressor, or Limiter, as they are designed to fix certain elements that weren't rectified during the recording process, nothing more.

I own all of those plugins save 2 …. The New Fangled Limiter and Melda audio plugin I don’t own. I’ve spent over $30,000 on plugins 😩

These are not secrets, everyone who is serious about audio engineering knows about them.
On one hand I find this information very helpful. On the other hand, it makes me realize how poor I am. I think the best plug-in these guys possess are their ears and your not gonna buy those. Just my humble opinion.

sorry that I have to be "that guy" but....instead of spending your time watching movies and playing video games, you might want to practice actual audio related things...like how to process a simple voice over so that it doesn't sound like an AM radio from the 50's

I don't think any of them are free, and most of them are fairly expensive. All of them very good plugins though so the cost being warranted is entirely dependant on how much it would get used. I'd personally pay whatever for stuff like Pro-Q3 because I use it on every single mix I do, multiple times, sometimes multiple times on the same track, so it is in my mind, an essential tool I always use because I know exactly what it does and what to expect

First produce your music good… then start using stock plugins
Why is the Music so Loud, why are the effect sounds so obbnoxious loud (6dB over the Speech wtf).. and rumbly!! Ever used a Low Cut?? lol
How did you manage to do so much research and still make an entirely unhelpful video? Honestly, I'd love to know the combined total of all these plugins. It feels like you read out a bunch of marketing blurbs and gave absolutely ZERO comparative examples. That's pretty much the only thing that matters, telling us X plugin is "different" because it gives you "sheen and clarity" sounds like bullshit buzzwords when you've already talked about clarity with almost every other example. Don't TELL me a plugin gives me "sheen" show me an example/demo of what the plugin can do and let me be the judge. This video basically functions as an advertising campaign for a bunch of products, not as a recommendation of tools
I think that is maybe the point. To put some names out there to try yourself and use your own ears and judgement. For example, Saturn 2 and Spectre technically do the same exact thing, but neither plugin necessarily sound like the other in a mix. And not everything that is good in Chris Lord Alge's mixes are going to be right for YOUR mixes. I agree about the ad copy thing to an extent though. That being said, all the plugins he mentions are great and yes, tons of mixing engineers use them all

Please take out all the background sounds and music. It is so annoying and greatly distracts from the information you’re sharing.
Also, it makes it hard from us neurodivergents who listen to info videos at 2x speed because then the background music is pitched weirdly.
inflator is just a simple waveshaper. it's not special.
