    Of course you can invest too much. If you can't afford to live day to day withput taking on debt for gas and groceries you need to cut back!

      My initial answer was “no, it definitely is not,” but you certainly managed to think of a case where it’s possible!
      Edit: I’ve thought of another one: it’s possible to invest too much into vehicles locked into retirement compared to standard brokerage accounts. Depends on your circumstance.

      That’s actually true especially the ones with zero debt. They probable have a higher net worth than most homeowners.
      Many don’t realize just because a person is homeless doesn’t mean don’t work,get pension,social security,or passive income.
      Not everyone drain and close their 401k and IRA because of job loss and becoming homeless.
      Living in my car long ago didn’t stop me from having a savings and brokerage account paying dividend and interest.

    Dave says in every video don't invest and clean up your mess first. How do you get through a whole course and not know that? We've paid everything off but the house. I'm just wondering if going through the course is worth it. When callers are asking for investment advice before cleaning it up. Then saying they took the course. All it took for me was the book and I got that at a yardsale for a $1...

      @@johnSmith-uz8nl what’s a Roth-IRA then? It all sounds very complicated.

    • @ryanreed34
      @ryanreed34 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      IRA stands for Individual Retirement Account. A Roth version of an IRA is essentially contributing to your retirement account with your own money after taxes. As opposed to a traditional IRA or 401(k) where retirement contributions are taken BEFORE you are taxed. You can invest a lot more with a 401(k) and traditional IRA this way, but you will get taxed when you pull that money out for retirement.
      The perk of a Roth IRA, is that since your money was already taxed from your income, when you go to withdraw at retirement, it's all tax free. There are perks to all of them.

    • @ryanreed34
      @ryanreed34 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@melaniereynders I read that the equivalent of a Roth IRA in the U.S. is essentially a TFSA, and the equivalent of a 401(k) is RRSP. Feel free to message me if you have any questions. I don't have any spammy videos or links. Just trying to teach people how to be smart with their own money and hopefully good karma comes from it and you can pay it forward.

    • @melaniereynders
      @melaniereynders 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ryanreed34 that’s what I’ve read as well. It’s why I’m confused by TSP. Why contribute to a TSP when there are Roth-IRA and 401(K) as options? Why do they have a third option?
