    Hi Alisha , i hope you will read this message.)) I haven't understood one thing:" if i bought a new camera, i wouldn't sell old one" in which situation is this sentence right?
    Situation 1:
    I didn't have money and
    I sold my old camera because of buying new one and i tell to my friend:"if i bought a new camera, i wouldn't sell old one"
    I mean is this sentence equal to"if i had money i wouldn't sell old one"?
    Situation 2:
    I bought a new camera and i didn't need old one that's why i sold that and i tell to my friend:"if i bought a new camera, i wouldn't sell old one"
    does the first part of sentence mean negative ?
    Situation 3:
    My friend had bought a new camera and sold his old one and i tell to him " if i bought a new camera, i wouldn't sell old one"
    I hope i explained my mind clearly
    Thanks in advance.

    Is it infinitive form with would ? I thought it's base (verb) form .

  • @tijana830
    @tijana830 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you please explain me this
    She would ask for answer until they gave it to her
    Ussualy the thing that happens first causes the second one and its(the first action) ussually in past tense and for the second we use* would*
    But here the first action (one which happened before is expressed with *Past simple* ---gave answer to her---and the second one which happened,which is caused by the first is expressed with *would *-- would ask--- so this really confuses me
    Here are the two sentences compared:
    She would ask for answer until they gave it to her(this is past habbit )
    This is would in conditional sentence
    If she asked they would answer (cause-ask,result-answer)
    Can i use this insted of first one: Ahe used to ask until they would give her the answer??

      When we talk about someone but don't know the gender, or the gender could be male or female (maybe I'm talking about a female friend, maybe a male, it doesn't matter for my sentence) then we usually use "them". The only other alternative is to say "him or her" which is kinda awkward. It is grammatically fine to use "them" for a singular but it is not often taught due to the confusion it causes students when their grammar knowledge is new and fragile. It's better to get a firm understanding of the basics before exploring these ideas.

    A very useful lesson. You are a professionalist and will always be remembered as one. That's obvious. But I wonder- If (I'm sure it will never happen) any disaster struck and you had to change the job- what would you do? What would you get right on? What do you like to do in your free time? I'm very curious about that. Love your lessons. BYE

    Question: Is this what is also regarded as the subjunctive mood? If not, what is the difference between the 2nd conditional and the subjunctive?

    Can we use reduced form with "what, where, when" like "what'd you buy?"

    • @donna-english
      @donna-english 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's possible, but it's more common for natives to shorten and blend the would + you in those cases. So, instead of saying "Where'd you like to go?" I would more likely say: "Where wou'jya like to go?" (IPA: wʊjɑː , a contraction of would + you). Your example, "What'd you buy?" sounds more like a reduced form of "What did you buy?".
