Of all of Radiohead's songs, this song the most traditional proggy. It reminds me of the League of Crafty Guitarists with the weaving melodies. Great song. It took me a couple years to really appreciate it after spending half a decade getting used to Radiohead's dive into trip hop and electronic music. I think of prog as an umbrella for art, psychedelic, post-rock, and experimental. While prog was traditionally defined as rock with heavy classical influences that pushed the boundaries of rock, I think of prog as more expansive now with many sub-genres.
There's a lot of disagreements about weather or not Radiohead is a prog band but to me they are one of the most progressive bands iv'e ever heard. They always say they're not but Geddy Lee and Rick Wakeman both poke fun at how proggy they actually are.
I would not consider them Prog, coming from my background and thoughts on the subject. Do me they fall into a eccentric rock/pop type thing like like the best post Peter Gabriel, Laurie Anderson, Sigue Ros or maybe even Muse. However, the songs I have done have amazing depth considering how minimal some of parts are that make up the song. Thank you for watching and commenting.

Watch The King Of Limbs from the basement that's more proggy to me right from the start Bloom is awesome. According to Geddy Lee and Rick Wakeman and others they are a prog band just not in the way Yes and ELP are.
I consider them prog. But by definition they are more art rock/post-rock/experimental rock because they tend not to go to Classical influences as much as trip hop and electronic music. But for me, I think of prog as more of anything that pushes rock in influence and techniques while remaining a rock band. I would put art rock, psychedelic rock, post-rock, and experimental rock under a large prog-rock umbrella. Some may not like this as psychedelic came first. But it seems to fit my framework best. This song reminds me so much of Robert Fripp's melody styles in Crafty Guitarists. The weaving melody arpeggios are really amazing. So if they are not prog, this song is most definitely prog. Definitional discussions are always fun.

As for the Crafty guitarist comment, I kind of agree, the serialism element in kind with the old masters like Terry Riley, Steve Reich, Bill Smith, Phillip Glass and my mentor Stuart Dempster. I really appreciate the comment and the on going dialogue.
Love your radiohead reactions! Not everyone loves the same tracks of theirs, or if you feel unimpressed sometimes it can be a different story upon relistens. But the album this is a part of is without a doubt a masterpiece (and you've loved other tracks from it already), def. recommend doing an album listen.

They did a second basement session for the album The King Of Limbs which is also fantastic, check out the song Bloom live from the basement you can tell they've been listening the Bitches Brew a lot before they wrote it.
Thanks for posting. I know this is different than what you usually do, but would suggest reacting to one of their studio albums start to finish (in parts?) Most are stone cold classics (a generation’s Sgt Pepper yada yada) and I think they would yield you more views as well. Either way, keep it up! Their arpeggio layering like this was a big influence for me. I saw as it as an extension of the Harrison to Gilmour “part” playing, if that makes sense.
The least interesting? I... don't even know what to say about that. This is their masterpiece in my opinion.

There are certain live versions of Bloom that are flat-out majestic, otherwordly, and beyond artistically masterful.
