I love how Punishing Gray Raven has so much trance music. It's a genre that isn't very common nowadays, so hearing it in a game is really cool.
It's sorta common in some scenes. Especially in some japanese rhythm games like Beatmania, Arcaea or Sound Voltex just to mention some. Although trance in japanese media mostly falls under the umbrella of J-Trance or Artcore. However, it's important to mention that artcore isn't always trance.

@@JvneXII on rhythm games its often a normal thing to see trance stuffs here and there. But in gacha games industry where usually they go with classic theme, or cultural, medieval, or modern theme etc., PGR has unique traits of using trance as its general consensus. Sure we have emotional music, trance opera, or a piece straight out of a vocal heaven, and there are some gacha games that occasionally use trances, but trance has always been PGR's forte.
You can also find a lot of trance used as Umineko's BGM. It's very damn crazy. Umineko's OST felt so different from anything else in that time because most of the BGM was trance and even some of the tracks were also used in games like Beatmania.

I think Vanguard was working on something else at the time. Also Kuro had been tying to build its own sound studio like Hoyo did. Though I heard Vanguard will be making tracks for WuWa in the future, not sure how true it is.

@@prisuners6275 I believe the truth is different. They probably never intended for Lamia to gather information for them, it was purely to give her freedom knowing full well Atlantis will not survive. Lamia was also properly given the training and upgrades to make sure she can live on as long as possible. The scientists even acknowledged that they threw away any form of emotions they had before joining the team and interacting with Lamia reminds them of what they lost.
It's been 2 months since I first discovered Lamia. 2 months later I still listen to it everyday
Finally played the Last Spark quest, Loved vera and also my love for lamia after seeing her back story grew even more, especially seeing the tranquil expression of the mermaid in the ocean

I swear both LAMIA and NARWHAL have sound feeling very similar to what NieR:Automata ost portrays. If you tell me the inspiration behind both of these songs is very much from that, i would not be shocked at all cause it just fits so well with this game too
I never really liked trance music much until I heard Narwhal during the boss fight, and it felt so empowering and hyped me up during the fight.
So thank you Vanguard Sound Studio, for creating such bangers which I can't get out of my head.

Im assuming you played the global version, this ost exist on chapter 15 which is still long way from global (now only chapter 13)

GhostFInal is a phenomenal composer and all his body of work is fantastic, but for me this track stands out. Dunno, maybe it is also because I was deeply touched by Lamia's story in the game, but nonetheless this track is an emotionally charged roller-coaster.
