love this car so far, daily driver, roomy, drives smooth, avg gas mileage, had a 2010 honda crv trafed it in on 2011 Ford Edge, dont knock it till u drive it, thank you Ford Gods.
@leaf16nut Its called the difference between Emergency Braking and Emergency Breaking. Doesn't matter anyway its a Ford, no one will notice the smashed front end.
I just saw my neighbors new ford edge, i was stunned it looks very clean in person very eye catching... i was shocked to know it was a ford lol.. good work .. !!!
@davidhalifax how about you taking a refresher parking course....i have one and have no issues parking it..especially in tight spaces..and ive only been driving 6 months.
I love the style of the Sport. The blacked out grill, Paneramic sunroof & the 22" seem to be pretty awsome. I woud just throw some Brimbo 4 or 5 pistons brakes on that Edge Sport & its a perfect truck.
Hey yall need to quit trippn. Who really is gonna drive the edge like those testers at motor trend do? In the real world,no one is really buying the edge to test it like we see on this video. Cmon! Ease up. It's a nice suv with good gas mileage, it's safe, and stylish, and most of middle america is going to buy it and enjoy it. If everybody bought or didn't buy vehicles based on the opinions of motor trend, the car companies would need unlimited bailouts!
my questions are, does all edges have a speed governor of 190km/h? is this governor included on all models that are outside the States? and finally, what are the reasons for that speed governor?
@TheArfdog Let me make this simple for you. If I am doing 75mph in my car and this ford edge on 22's is doing 75mph and we both apply a percentage of our brake's capacity. I do 50% and the edge does 75%, I bet my car will stop just as fast if not faster. Why is that so hard to understand? You are so awesome.
That actually looks pretty nice. I always thought the Edge looked ugly, but the updated facia and the Sport model makes it look pretty nice. Though the brakes arn't anything to be proud about...there's nothing that a trip to a local dealership for a set of cross drilled rotors can't fix. With the rebates you get back from Ford in cash, it'd be stupid to not buy one of their cars for such a small flaw.
love this vehicle, wish i could afford one, they are so comfortable, fun to drive, have nice options for a good price and get great milage, tbh Ford i beleive is the 1# american manfucaturer if not the top of all. i really llove their new vehicles they have really stepped up there game and now im glad they did
They need to have the option of sport grill on regular edge, I'll get one then. I don't want the sport with those numbers. I'll get the mustang for weekend too! Better give me good deal on both of them!
I was concidering buying the Edge Sport, but 15.9 in the quarter mile is just disappointing, a fully loaded Expedition LE does it in 16.2!! They should have put the 3.5L twin turbo engine from the Taurus SHO in the Edge Sport.
I'd love to see what an Edge Sport in FWD with the much lighter, base 20" wheels tested to see if it would beat an Edge Limited FWD in the 1/4 mile, but nobody has ever tested a FWD Edge Sport of course. I hate when magazines do that. I bet the sport would be a bit quicker in that case.
@champ1193 What? No. They do tend to give American cars more coverage, but that doesn't mean they're biased towards them. If anything they're biased towards Asian cars, because they win every comparo, sometimes for reasons no one understands.
@tinleo333 Yeah you have a good point about the damn brakes, but other than that the motor trend testers are putting it through tests regular people won't put it through. So some people are judging the Edge based on unrealistic scenarios. Except for the brake situation, which does need improvement.
I don't see a point in having the edge since the explorer is now a car and built similarly, and just offer a sport package in the explorer like before.
I drove both SEL and Sport. I would take the sport for looks and bells & whistles.. and upgrade the brakes to high-end ceramic pads and rotors ($250 apx).. that will improve brake responsea little, and be on my merry little way.
@aarikc17 That is a little fishy, even when a little warm brakes don't make such a sudden difference such as that. Maybe they used different techniques or the equipment glitched but that just doesn't make sense. Either way if you are that let down by brakes it isn't that expensive to upgrade them. Also it still weighs almost 1000 pounds more than a car easily so even 150 isn't that bad considering.
looks good, ecoboost option in the future will kick ass!!!! finally be able to compete with stuff like Infinity FX35-50's and maybe the lower model X5's and stuff :)
22's on a suv wagon are stupid. Every one pound of rotational mass weight = ten pounds of dead weight, 20 extra lbs at the wheels = 200lbs. That hurts speed, breaking, and economy.
ford edge looks great, especially the sport. i would take an edge sport over an audi Q3,5,7 and happily save myself some grands. sadly we don't have them here in germany.
@quikiemcbee it has the lil manual thing on the auto.. I recently rented this vehicle.. It is really nice for an suv.. its quiet, and it can get up and go when u want it to.. The best part about it is all the cool lil things inside.. like the lights, and the sound system has a nice quality STOCK Bump.. which is nice.. but i twas a rental car so.. i wouldn't buy it only if i had too...
@dhpdhp100 True but you'd think Ford could do a bit more in the size of the rotor and pad size. Believe me. The only complaint I have about it is the braking. It's a comfortable, attractive truck with plenty of power. I'll likely buy a 2011 Edge in a year or so since my Matrix will have about 180000 mi. on it.
if u dont like the look of this edge then ur blind.... this is a very sexy vehicle.... at first i didnt like the black grill as much as the crome when i saw it on here but when i saw it in person i really liked it
I wonder how much Ford shelled out to Motor Trend to get this much coverage. Mustang vs. M3 (where, whoa the Mustang kind of won. yea right), the Raptor, the Jay Leno thing and now the Edge.
@puck971 Its called marketing! Ford is on top. GM and Chrysler can't can't afford to entrepreneur, they will need to get bailed out again. I doubt Ford paid MT anything.
@charlieboozer82 I don't know man... by the looks of it the owner will have to get new brakes often and that can be very pricey. We used to have a GM SAAB 95 and it was a heavy car but for all the weight GM decided to put small brakes and so we spent soo much money every time to get new pads and often! and we didn't drive like that! Our SAAB was just an A to B car... This video just shows how fast you can lose your pads. So ya I'm trippin!
@zootoo63 It dose look good, and I like Fords. I have a Mustang GT. and like it alot. I went with some deep dish 18s on it to save weight over the 20s most people run.
@boogalice haha we do because Edge SPORT (this one with 22") apparently has sloooower acceleration 0-60 than the standard SE . So this Sport edge doesn't do what it should be doing, at a more pricey msrp tag. pathetic effort we shall say.
First of all, way to not mention that the reason the Sport was .5 seconds slower was because the Sport was an AWD model when compared to the FWD SEL, of course it's heavier and slower. Compare two AWD models next time clowns. Also, the 22's are not optional on the sport, they are standard. Sweet journalism…
I only have two gripes for the Edge. My first and most important problem, are those brakes. Big, honkin trucks have better stopping distance than 140 and 155 feet. My second gripe, is the fact that you cannot get tan or brown colored leather in the Edge! Think how hot a black Edge Sport with brown or tan leather would be. Why do ALL Sport trims either have grey or black leather? It's stupid!
@lonespartan31289 true, i dont know why people are trying to pin things on companies that havent taken any, ford has never taken any because they were smart and saved for something like this, not saying they are in the same shape as before the economic downturn but they are doing well considering.
@psmTARDCORE Let me make it real clear and simple. 50% does not equal 75%. LOL. Are you trying to say it takes 50% of the PEDAL TRAVEL to get 75% braking force?
@LerticusMaximus are you talking about bailout money from the US government? is so ford did not take any at all, and it would make no sense for toyota( a japanese company) and BMW(a german company) to take US money..so you are wrong.
I hope you all realize that the brakes are really bad, and even that extra feet can lead you to an accident. Just to let you know it was only 0-60, imagine if you were in the highway driving faster than that. Good luck.
@Martin00028Guitar Ok maybe I wasn't clear. I'm not hating on Ford. I have 2002 Taurus that has over 100k miles. I was talking to all the haters of the ford edge. They were making it seem like people in the real world were going to, on a normal day, drive the edge like the motor trend people drive it. They were putting it through the tester as if the general buying public would be doing the same. Give the edge a break, is what I was saying to the hatin' ass commenters! Me and u are cooltho
Take the ridiculous goddamn "wagon wheels" off, and put some REAL rubber and rims on it, and I'd guarantee the 0-60 and stopping distance would greatly improve.
I drive my '03 Toyota Matrix all week long and on weekends I drive my wife's new Edge Limted. I almost rear end someone within the first 20 minutes every time because the braking is so much worse than on the Matrix.
love this car so far, daily driver, roomy, drives smooth, avg gas mileage, had a 2010 honda crv trafed it in on 2011 Ford Edge, dont knock it till u drive it, thank you Ford Gods.
I love this edge! I can't believe that the stopping distances are so terrible, that is a step backwards!
The 22 inch wheels also overload the stock brakes, and you don't need AWD and track wheels on a wagon. The edge sport does look pretty good though.
@dsm2xtreme unless the weight difference negates that, which it does in the sport model
What's the deal with the brakes? I like the looks of this rig...
@tinleo333 the brakes are fine its just that motortrend doesn't get that this isn't a 3000lb sports coupe its a 4500lbs suv.
This is a very nice crossover for the average family. If you want performance add aftermarket brakes and sts turbos and let the fun begin.
@FordGTGuy Yes but the distance changed significantly after a couple stops, even after they let the brakes cool. It was 150ft +
@TheArfdog Speaking from experience.... Im pretty sure me pressing my brakes 50% = 75% of the brake on this thing. It looks cool though.
Can you buy the mondeo in the US?
@puck971 probably not that much tbh, Ford is amazing. they dont need this to sell cars which are amazing.
this cars is the shit. i just picked up the 2011 version. i have no complaints at all. its fast it deff stops and the family feels safe in it.
If your an every day style driver the Ford Edge is one heck of a vehicle, well appointed and stylish too boot!
@Mik5OO no there is only the focus, fiesta and the fusion
i knew american cars can bang out good cars. they just needed a push. america will be on top again!
Those are impressive MPG numbers!
Man I own one of these right now, Im laughing at this comment because my biggest complaint about the car is how bad the mpg is.
I love the sport edge. Wish it had a v8 but its still something I'd love to drive.
my questions are, does all edges have a speed governor of 190km/h?
is this governor included on all models that are outside the States?
and finally, what are the reasons for that speed governor?

@Jim4575 trust me, there fine. Motortrend is just used to test mustangs and cars that weigh a lot less.
Can someone explain me what was that at 1:16 ?
Looks good, but looks like they forgot to due anything to the rear end....
Nice review, hope there would be more reviews of this car. That song in the background is tight, whats it called??
What song is this?!
love this vehicle, wish i could afford one, they are so comfortable, fun to drive, have nice options for a good price and get great milage, tbh Ford i beleive is the 1# american manfucaturer if not the top of all. i really llove their new vehicles they have really stepped up there game and now im glad they did

@frank55656 what's a brane?
The sport version has bigger engine, biger wheel, but slower?!
it looks like a big rally car, thats why i love it!
@champ1193 What? No. They do tend to give American cars more coverage, but that doesn't mean they're biased towards them. If anything they're biased towards Asian cars, because they win every comparo, sometimes for reasons no one understands.
@1RaVeN1FTW Did you change the pads or the discs?
@NitroGadvRules Ok . I do like the engine improvements.
@puck971 Ford didn't pay anything. Motor Trend would be getting abuse if they did not review the best vehicles on the market.
Granted, the Edge is a better built vehicle, but my bone stock 2008 Pontiac Torrent GXP ran the 1/4 mi at 14.84@ 93.49. 3.6l 264 HP 4050 lbs.
I drove both SEL and Sport. I would take the sport for looks and bells & whistles.. and upgrade the brakes to high-end ceramic pads and rotors ($250 apx).. that will improve brake responsea little, and be on my merry little way.

funny how the Edge and the new Explorer look oddly the same!
@casinotriple the fact is bigger wheels are more safer than smaller ones. it doesn't lose control easily. It's proven fact.
looks good, ecoboost option in the future will kick ass!!!! finally be able to compete with stuff like Infinity FX35-50's and maybe the lower model X5's and stuff :)
the 2007-present Ford Edge is assembled in
Oakville, Ontario, Canada
22's on a suv wagon are stupid. Every one pound of rotational mass weight = ten pounds of dead weight, 20 extra lbs at the wheels = 200lbs. That hurts speed, breaking, and economy.
That's what im talkin about.. an SUV on 22's
the engine on the 2007-present Ford Edge
Engine
2.0L EcoBoost I4 (2011-)
3.5L V6
ford edge looks great, especially the sport. i would take an edge sport over an audi Q3,5,7 and happily save myself some grands. sadly we don't have them here in germany.

@charlieboozer82 when you has to stop in an emergency situation you can get kill with those bad breakes
@puck971 Its called marketing! Ford is on top. GM and Chrysler can't can't afford to entrepreneur, they will need to get bailed out again. I doubt Ford paid MT anything.

so where is the diesel engine edge?
what's the name of this soundtrack?

@USA4July1776 Except it's assembled in Canada...
Can anybody tell me what song this is?
@WoZIMoo youre basically paying more for a much heavier car "sport" model.
thats hawttt woot woot
Eh...it looks cool...I'd rock it.
Anyone noticed that the "normal" Edge is faster that the "Sport" version? 0-60 in 7.1 s vs. 7.6 ...Since when does sport mean slower? I'm just saying
The sport is super sexy in person
@aarikc17
BMW M3 Coupe brakes in 110 feet from 60 mph so 124 feet in a Crossover that nearly weighs a 1000 more pounds isn't that bad.
@puck971 motortrend is an american company, making it automatically biased to ford
I only have two gripes for the Edge. My first and most important problem, are those brakes. Big, honkin trucks have better stopping distance than 140 and 155 feet. My second gripe, is the fact that you cannot get tan or brown colored leather in the Edge! Think how hot a black Edge Sport with brown or tan leather would be. built in oakville!
looks awesome
@datboiwes3 Ford is part of GM...right?...i always forget...
from the back, it look's almost exactly like a SKODA OCTAVIA BREAK. Take a look on google images and you'll see what i say
@davidhalifax No it's actually very easy, I just got a drivers permit, and its no harder to park than a rav4
@lonespartan31289 true, i dont know why people are trying to pin things on companies that havent taken any, ford has never taken any because they were smart and saved for something like this, not saying they are in the same shape as before the economic downturn but they are doing well considering.

@AronAirlines do we`?
Make the Edge RWD and slap an Aerostar SVT badge on it and I will happly buy it...
I hope you all realize that the brakes are really bad, and even that extra feet can lead you to an accident. Just to let you know it was only 0-60, imagine if you were in the highway driving faster than that. Good luck.

Ford Edge 2011.......awesome!!!
Second test ?-?
there is a second test? anyone else know?
Getting my tuxedo black SEL on May 11 :))
@puck971 good point
@TheArfdog why the fuck argue then? O.o You are sooooo cool.
Go Allan Mulally...don't like the 22's on a crossover though that's unnecessary, hurts speed, fuel economy, and ride comfort.
@mikemk92 its like 3 thousand pounds heavier dude, of course it wont stop as fast..
Take the ridiculous goddamn "wagon wheels" off, and put some REAL rubber and rims on it, and I'd guarantee the 0-60 and stopping distance would greatly improve.
@puck971 Uhhh, that's just b/c Ford is stepping up their game. And the new Boss Mustang IS better than the M3
I drive my '03 Toyota Matrix all week long and on weekends I drive my wife's new Edge Limted. I almost rear end someone within the first 20 minutes every time because the braking is so much worse than on the Matrix.
