I found myself having to tell customers they couldn't have this fish or that fish and then looking back at me with a face like (I'm paying you so you I don't see what the problem is). Not planning to start a business but had a couple of thoughts. What about the liability attached to the jobs? Is there a contract? Also, have you done a vid on how you maintenance your tanks in 90 mins? Takes me two hours to do seven tanks... Great vid just now. Caught the live stream last night. You made an awesome guest. Hi Bob, thanks for the support! I don't do contracts. I have the guidelines printed and I provide them to the customer. As far as the 25 or so tanks in 90 minutes, no, I haven't filmed that yet. Maybe I will do a high speed video one day.
My local has asked me personally to start up maintenance business in the past but I could never seem to figure out a way to make it work in my own life. I have always looked at this kind of work more like helping someone rather than providing a service. That mind set has limited me in many endeavors in the past never being competitive with pricing so in the long run I never make it a viable business.

Pretty cool idea, I'd love to do a maintenance side job. I'm still too new with the hobby I think though. I would say I'm an "advanced beginner" lol, meaning I research a lot but don't have the years to have seen enough. What are your thoughts on a beginner doing basic tank maintenance as a side gig?
Hi Bryan. I would recommend getting more experience before putting yourself out there as professional that will charge people to clean tanks. It is a lot of responsibility and you will need to be able to handle various situations. Maybe you can get some experience by helping your friends and family with their tanks, or even helping out at a local fish store.

My area is all saltwater and most are not interested in having someone mess with their tanks, I put a ad on Craigslist and only one person called and they were so far apart on price for the condition of their tank so it didn't quite work out!! Ad is still up , still no one??? We're you going to trim the cardboard those stickers are on? You should....lol...no offense ...it would look better trimmed and framed maby??? ✌️
Best bet is to go to any local fish store or even the guys that work at Petco or PetSmart that work in the fish department make friends with them and if they can recommend you to people who are having issues weather saltwater or freshwater you can always turn into a new client for you trust me I've been in the business for the past 20 years I've never advertised it's all word-of-mouth or through the local pet stores that have help me out

No, I stopped doing service back in 2020 and moved all of my clients to a friend of mine who has a service business in the same area. He is still servicing some of my old accounts.

In our local area there is no awareness in aquarium hobby but I will do this to aware people about aquarium hobby

How do you handle contamination issues? Do you disinfect all your service equipment between jobs?
Yes, I use bleach and hot water.

No, I have not had any issues with customers not paying, and I have not had any issues with customers having fish die.
