The fact that Gelmir held out perpetually during and after The Shattering is insane considering how Marika has always solidified her power and godship through absolute anillhation through warfare
They held out by burning Ertrees wherever they went, and putting the flame of Frenzy in the camps of their foes. Besides, Marika was gone by the time the Assult on the Volcano Manot had begun.
Neither of you seem to know what you’re talking about. I don’t even know why you brought up Gelmir to begin with. Gelmir only became the battlefield it is now during the Shattering, and Marika was already out of the picture by then. Also, Gelmir did not quite hold out. With use of terrain and unspeakable brutality, Rykard and his men reached a stalemate with Leyndell’s forces. However, in the midst of the conflict, Rykard’s forces started to question his integrity. In their eyes, his noble ambitions had degraded into mere greed, so they rebelled against him. Some way or another, they have all died for it now, which is why there are no Gelmir soldiers or knights to fight. Meanwhile, the remaining Leyndell forces have seemingly been stuck on Mt. Gelmir ever since, driven mad by the horrors they lived through. Their intense anger, grief, and despair makes them easy targets for the Frenzied Flame. There was no “seeding” it; I don’t think that’s even possible. They attracted it and it consumed their broken minds.
And as for the Minor Erdtree in Mt. Gelmir: That was probably just a casualty from the chaos of battle. Deliberately burning it would not have done anything practical for Rykard, though I’m sure he liked seeing it burn.
@wigglerrave4020 thank you so much for explaining this so clearly! When playing the game I noticed that the soldiers in Gelmir seemed a different kind of devastated than the ones found elsewhere in the Lands Between, but I never really connected the dots fully before seeing it all laid out like this. The lore of this game has a way of being just beyond what I can fully understand, like I think I understand something but once I actually question it a little I stop having answers really fast lol. So explanations like this are very helpful since I would really like to understand
@@BearlyAwake13 You’re welcome. Rykard himself is an interesting character, by the way. Before the Shattering, he was the capital’s head justiciar. He is noted for the cruel punishments he inflicted upon the condemned. The Ghiza’s Wheel was one of many torture devices he employed. Albinaurics were apparently common victims of his punishments, as shown by the numerous albinaurics in Volcano Manor, some trapped in torture devices and others with a sack over their heads designed to drive them insane. After the beginning of the Shattering, he decided that the Golden Order needed to go and began fighting against Leyndell (which is where his title of Lord of Blasphemy comes from) while also providing some of his abductor virgins to his family to bolster their defenses. He adopted a particularly ruthless approach to his exploits, deeming all forms of power that will help in overthrowing the Golden Order fair game and all means of gaining that power up for grabs. This also earned him the moniker of “the Taker.” Somewhere along the line, he created the abductor virgins as war machines and torture devices in one. With all of that in mind plus the fact that he was a proficient magma sorcerer, one can imagine how horrific the Assault on Volcano Manor was-hulking automatons ripping through scores of troops and spiriting many of them away to even further horrors, while Rykard himself burned countless more alive, drenching them in magma. A spirit near the Minor Erdtree, apparently once one of his men, addresses Rykard, saying “If this putrid field of death is what your blasphemy would bring, then I can no longer abide. No one can.” This battle seems to have been the turning point where Rykard’s men started questioning him. His ambitions had decayed into barbarism and greed, so they started to rebel. The day he fed himself to the God-Devouring Serpent seems to have been the day that the remainder of his forces turned his back on him. Many of them even tried to kill the monstrosity he had become, but failed. This attempt is how the Serpent-Hunter ended up in his boss room. Tanith and the Recusants carry on his legacy, following his “Taker” philosophy in strengthening themselves and him enough to overthrow the Golden Order.
I don't think any other game has conveyed so great the image of a slaughter. Of an unbalanced war, where every soldier of one side must face thousands of greater foes. Messmer holding so proudly his spear among the impaled corpses of his conquered enemies. Horrifying and... Beautiful
Well, even after the charm was broken, they still chose to follow and believe in Miquella. It's more complex than Disney-level writing as everybody has their own personal beliefs and wants which is perfectly reflected in the all-out brawl before the final boss

I think one thing people don’t pay attention to is that MIQUELLA is the one who said Marina’s ascent was seduction and betrayal. Given that we learn she was literally the victim of a genocide (and you can see on her arms she was tortured with the tooth whip), it’s clear she didn’t betray anyone but rather rebelled against her tormentors, but Miquella told his band that she ascended through lies and deception, when in actuality that’s exactly what he’s trying to do.
@@SunlightPrince I thought the same before discovering what Miquella did with the remains of Mohg, now I can't help but think that he's him during the ritual of reincarnation, but of course I may be wrong
My friend... didn't you have to slay Artorias and Sif? You had to stop Gwyn who had given most of his soul to keep the fire burning.. You were forced to put an end to Radahn's madness.. I'm afraid I see it all too clearly.
so here is my full breakdown of everything we can see in this story trailer (this is just my speculation) : 0:19 we see Marika pull a golden strand out of another womans womb. Probably from the Gloam Eyed Queen. As we know Marika and the GEQ were both Empyrians to become the next God. The narrator speaks of a ''seduction'' and then a ''betrayal''. Did Marika have some sort of affair with the Gloam Eyed Queen? It is still not very clear how it ended up in this situation, but as far as it goes this makes sense to me 0:29 Marika's feet, thanks again, Miyazaki. 0:34 this is Marika ''sewing'' the Erdtree together, making it the birth of the Age of the Erdtree. It is completely made out of bodies since the Erdtree feeds on all life. 0:48 ''what followed was a war unseen'' now that the Erdtree is born, and as we know the Gloam Eyed Queen had her own army, war lets loose in the Land of Shadows. Messmer leading his own army, i'm still not sure if Messmer had a connection to the Gloam Eyed Queen, but it does make sense he would be against the Golden Order. 1:52 why did Miquella abondon everything? Even his fate as ( 2:12 ) being St. Trina? Did something happen during the war? I have absolutely no idea. 2:29 we are going to be part of a group that follows Miquella, marking his runes ''checkpoints'' just like how Sites of Grace work, leading eventually to something. Even if i'm completely wrong, i am so excited for this and cannot wait to stay up all night playing this game again.

So a Roman Dracula going full Neron... Love it.
He’s more so fully based on Vlad Tepes or alternatively Vlad Dracula which “Dracula” means “Son of the Devil” but can alternatively through a Latin context be translated as “Son of the Dragon”, Messmer does obviously have some classic vampire imagery going on especially with his Drake Knight armor on, Drake Knights were known for eating the hearts of dragons in lore.
@Grimsly3736
The theme that accompanies the scene also has Organs playing near the beginning. Messmer is literally a one for one recreation of Vlad.

0:20 Interesting how this sums up what Radagon did to Renalla
this what I was thinking
The scene where the hair is presented, it’s not clear if it’s Marika or Radagon, similar to the first ever trailer. The hair is blonde/red and the body is androgynous
the deep fist
Maybe Marika betrayed another lord in shadow realm an act of seduction and betrayal to achieve her goals
Only thing I got is that clearly, Merika’s order was built on top a literal pile of corpses… which was then promptly swept under the rug
If only the Greater will cared enough to stay. All that death to leave its avatar and her world to suffer.
the ending angelic theme when talking about miquella has me coming back to this video again and again. It perfectly represents how we are literally compelled to adore and love him. like i feel inspired just hearing it and want to follow him anywhere

I was all in for the Hornsents until I discovered Bonny Village.
@@Saicofake I mean... that still doesn't justify marika's genocide of them, and the the continued oppression of Crucible-related creatures
@@zabaszatana6319yeah, yeah it does. Everything else (for example, the giants and the continued racism against Omens) is inexcusable, but the Horsent fucked around and found out.
@@spacefaringyoshi Nah, there is no justification for genocide.
@@zabaszatana6319 Nah, Marika is absolved of everything. She is not innocent, but she is forgiven.
After all, we become her lord in the default Elden Lord ending.

That music at the end is nuts, sounds so different from anything we've heard in a From game before
At 0:20, it looks as if Marika is reaching into the eye cavity of the abyssal serpent. Would explain why a certain character is missing an eye, it’s in the right spot. Maybe “the betrayal” had multiple meanings: turning on the hornsent, then stealing the great rune from “the serpent” once there were enough corpses to become powerful enough to create the Erdtree?
Knowing that its Romina at 1:14 is so cool. Thats the bud shes holding which became her weapon.

First time watching this : "damn, mesmer really killed those rebels in cold blood..."
Rewatching after the lore : "damn, mesmer should've torture them first"
I think one thing people don’t pay attention to is that MIQUELLA is the one who said Marina’s ascent was seduction and betrayal.
He’s essentially creating his own red herring
I think marika is creating the erdtree out of mountains of corpses been binded together with the golden strings she plucked from someone's womb
Feelings of sadness watching the Lion Dancer take out Messmers soldiers and then seeing it torn apart and impaled on spears.
The final boss ost in the second half of the trailer is aura
So the area Marika is standing at the beginning is the final boss arena

Crackpot theory time: the third song, the one that plays when the woman starts speaking about Miquella, that's Miquella's boss ost.
I hope it's the new main menu theme. It sounds so good.

RISE TARNISHED
so here is my full breakdown of everything we can see in this story trailer (this is just my speculation) :
0:19 we see Marika pull a golden strand out of another womans womb. Probably from the Gloam Eyed Queen. As we know Marika and the GEQ were both Empyrians to become the next God. The narrator speaks of a ''seduction'' and then a ''betrayal''. Did Marika have some sort of affair with the Gloam Eyed Queen? It is still not very clear how it ended up in this situation, but as far as it goes this makes sense to me
0:29 Marika's feet, thanks again, Miyazaki.
