If you are worried about hitting the threads in the hole, find a bolt that screws in ok, and drill though it in a pillar drill. Then screw it into the tractor and it becomes a drill guide. The tapered bolt should go in ok, no internal threads damaged :-D
I see your point. I figured your driver set was made out of steel. That would have warped the driver plates pretty much. Too bad you don't have a small lathe. They can be pretty handy at times.
Oh, by the way, I've really enjoyed this series. Being that I'm on medical restrictions due to a shoulder replacement and other metal objects installed over the past three years, I'm enjoying turning a wrench through your channel. Been watching you for years now.
Job weld would have held better than you think bill.i used it once to fix a hanger bearing on a potato digger. It held the main driveshaft up yo the gearbox.i used because the welder was down.we never did welc the metal.yes you need to repaint the rest of the tractor.ig look very ugly compared to that front piece
I dont want to put a damper on your party, but I noticed when you pulled your pin and bushing out in the beginning, the back side of the hole was worn way worse than the front. So the shims you put in to make up for the gap on the front, I am almost certain there is still a big gap on the back. Remember, this pin and bushing is taking all the weight of the entire front end of your tractor. What I see happening is that your new bushing is going to split and or crack because of the gap that im sure is still there. I say all this because I have been an airline tooling mechanic, MR&D and machinist for almost 40 years and have repaired and replaced hundreds of large pins and bushings. Also, good thing you didnt use that fan, because it may have interfered with your new radiator.
Wow theres not over spray on the tires like when someone is trying to sell a tractor thats been sitting in a field for fifty years , they paint it and call it restored .
Enjoying the tractor repair series. Great series. Thanks for sharing. Good job!
Very first tractor I learned to drive was the 1952 8N my grandfather owned in Earlville NY/ Brookfield State Forest area.
I have one of those with the flathead V8 in it :)
My49 8n has approximately 1/2 in spacer on front side of axle beam and 4-5 spacers on the back side of beam that take up about 1/2 inch.
The I beam radius arms WERE used on the 2N tractors up till mid 1944 at that time they went to the tubular arms
I reckon you can call it the 29N😁
Nice progress mr Bill
you drill a hole after you get the sleeve in

@31:19 belt looks like it needs to be changed out.. looks like a cut in the belt?
Should try and replace the front SEAL !! Since your rite there....
It's a 29n Bill. Of course.
people underestimate how strong jb weld is
Looking good buddy
Can you not swap the neck’s of the rad cooling fans?
if I had rivets I could I guess
I think you had better check out those bolts that the radius rods hook to axle, could be a problem
I figured you would have used your race/seal installation tool to drive that pin in.
yes.. Bit it required more force than i wished for the aluminum to be hit with with that driver kit

You could have removed the center axle section and pressed the parts together instead of malling it together.
Bill maybe over the years a thicker oil was put in the tractor cause the rings and seals are that bad
The front end looks to be a 1939 , the rims give it a way. the elctrical look to be a 9n

The hole in the front of that old pin is for a hand crank.
yes. we made one of those

the bushing was shimmed on both sides and black silicone

That frontend supposed to have shims in the front and the rear of the axle.
8n-2n-9n has the same frontend only difference is the spindles. Matter of fact the massy Ferguson 35 has the same frontend.
Is it mean that I fast forward through the ads
blame google
